00:00At least 24 people have been killed after a bus collided with a truck on Kenya's main highway.
00:07Some 24 others were injured in the Sunday morning crash.
00:12Passengers on the bus were returning to Mombasa from western Kenya.
00:17The National Transport Safety Authority says the accident was due to improper overtaking.
00:26They saw a trailer in the bushes and was told it had hit our bus from behind.
00:32Those who witnessed the ordeal say that the trailer tried to overtake our bus,
00:37only to meet oncoming traffic and try to abort the overtake.
00:42That's when they lost control.
00:44So those who got severely injured are the people who sat at the back of the bus.
00:49Those of us who were sat in front are a bit better and have even been discharged.
00:55Like me, I only got a few bruises and I've been here since the accident, but I feel no pain
01:01on my body.
01:04Sunday's crash comes just three weeks after 17 people died in another accident along the same highway.
01:11Transport safety officials are calling for road accidents to be declared a national disaster.
