Political equations in Uttar Pradesh are witnessing intense competition ahead of the elections, with parties strategising over crucial voting blocs. The Samajwadi Party and AIMIM are locked in an exchange over minority representation, with Asaduddin Owaisi raising the slogan 'Abdul Abdari nahi bichhayega' while Samajwadi Party labels AIMIM as the BJP's B team. Meanwhile, AIMIM is targeting Muslim-dominated Samajwadi Party strongholds like Rampur, Azamgarh, Kairana, and Bahraich. A potential third front featuring Chandrashekhar Azad Ravan alongside AIMIM could split minority and Dalit votes, challenging the INDIA bloc while potentially aiding the BJP. With Bahujan Samaj Party's perceived weakening, Chandrashekhar Ravan is emerging as an influential voice among Dalit voters. To consolidate backward, Dalit, and minority communities, Akhilesh Yadav has renewed focus on his PDA outreach, even introducing blue attire for the Samajwadi Party youth wing to attract Ambedkarite voters alongside its traditional base.

00:00Right, let's cut across to my colleague Samarth Shivastava now joining us for more perspective on what really is going
00:05on.
00:06Samarth, right now it's still early stages and early days of election.
00:10And we are pretty much hearing the usual.
00:12The BJP raising the issue of good governance, no gundagardi as has been, you know, sort of associated with the
00:19SP.
00:20The opposition on the other hand divided over the Muslim vote bank yet again.
00:26In this time around, as we get closer to elections, is it the same issues that you see resurfacing this
00:32time around or is there something different?
00:36Has Gen Z had a factor so far at least in how the election planning is going on?
00:45See, Gen Z will definitely have a factor, a very strong factor if you talk about this coming with the
00:50Pradesh elections.
00:50Because what we have seen around Jantar Mantar, what we have seen in various pending recruitments in the state of
00:57Uttar Pradesh,
00:58this is the moment for them, in a way, at least to raise their anger against the government.
01:03So that anger, because we saw what happened in Jantar Mantar and all the students who gathered there were definitely
01:09not from New Delhi.
01:10Many of them would have been from Uttar Pradesh of having a voter ID of different districts.
01:16So that can impact that particular thing in the coming elections.
01:19But if you talk about the core issues right here, see, the Muslim vote bank is a very crucial vote
01:25bank in Uttar Pradesh.
01:26And this has been a very faithful vote bank if you talk about assembly elections for Samajwadi party.
01:31And if you talk about Luxawai election, it has been with the Congress party.
01:35But Asad Uddin Ovesi, now the Samajwadi party is calling him the Abdul of BJP.
01:42While Asad Uddin Ovesi has come out with a slogan, Abdul Abdari Nahi Bichhayega.
01:47He, in a way, targets Samajwadi party.
01:49The Samajwadi party has always used the Muslim vote bank, but have never given them any such pose, such recognition
01:55in the times previously.
01:58While the Samajwadi party has been attacking on the Ovesi and calls him the BJP's B team.
02:02So this is one narrative, if you see from the perspective of the AIMM, they are targeting those seats which
02:08are Muslim dominated.
02:09Though, surprisingly, these are the seats which have the stronghold of Samajwadi party.
02:13It's Rampur, it's Azamgarh, it's Kairana, it's Behraich.
02:17But if you talk with the perspective of AIMM, it's good for them that they are going at the places
02:21where there is Muslim domination.
02:22But if you see from the perspective of the India alliance, their Ovesi is targeting those assembly seats where either
02:30Congress is strong or Samajwadi party is strong.
02:33And that's why both Congress and AIMM and Samajwadi party are calling AIMM BJP's B team.
02:40Interestingly, third front is also on the cards with Chandrasekhar Ravan might join hands with the AIMM.
02:45So it's going to be worth seeing if that Pichhla, Dalit plus M factor comes around with the third front,
02:52how this will cope a loss to the India alliance?
02:56As BJP will be in the favourable condition if Muslim vote banks get shifted to the third front.
03:01So it's going to be worth seeing and that's the ground reality from Uttar Pradesh.
03:03Back to you.
03:05Yeah, but Samajwadi, help me understand this.
03:07When it comes to Chandrasekhar or Ravan, as we know, has he managed to swipe away all the BSP vote
03:16base or is it still a social media phenomena where we don't see a lot of ground support?
03:25See, Ravan has made an impact at least at that particular area where he won that particular Lok Sabha seat.
03:31And with the decline of the Bahujan Samaj party, because the many opposition leaders have already labelled the BSP as
03:38the BJP's B team.
03:40And we have seen how Mayawati hasn't been much vocal against the Safran party in the recent times.
03:45And that's why the Dalit voter is in a state of confusion.
03:48Either we go with the BJP or Chandrasekhar Ravan.
03:51Because Chandrasekhar Ravan has that kind of factor, has that kind of a boil that BSP in the earlier stages
03:58when it used to fight against the Mulaim Singh Yadav thing had.
04:01So that's why Chandrasekhar Ravan has got that particular edge right over there.
04:06And at least he may not won any assembly seat or he may not do wonders in many assembly seats.
04:11But yes, he may impact and work as what we say in Hindi, vote katwa.
04:16So that has been the thing both with OAC number one and with Chandrasekhar Ravan, though the vote banks are
04:22different.
04:23Yes.
04:23Yes.
04:23Samad, last question.
04:25Couple of days ago, we saw something interesting happening in the Samajwadi party.
04:29Akhle Shadav, while launching the youth wing, he had a new attire for the Samajwadi party youth wing.
04:38And it was blue in color.
04:40Many saw that as a sign that he was trying to go after the same BSP, vote bank as well.
04:46The same that Ravan is also after.
04:48Do you think that could be a deciding factor?
04:52The fact that the Samajwadi party is saying, you know, we are going to do this engineering of sorts?
05:03Interestingly, Sonal, it's also the battle of blues in the state of Uttar Pradesh because we have seen that MY
05:07factor has always been intact with the Samajwadi party and they do not have to worry about this MY thing.
05:14The question is, where will the Dalit, OBC and the backward caste vote will be going?
05:21And that's the whole competition, all in between the BJP, BSP and the Samajwadi party, if you call it, along
05:27with the Congress party.
05:28And that is one of the reasons, see, symbolically many things we see the poster walls.
05:34And this is another kind of a symbolic change for the Chhatra Sabha of Samajwadi party.
05:39They have changed the dress. No, they haven't, in a way, removed their original colors of green and red.
05:44They have kept the cap of the red color.
05:47But the entire dress, the domination of blue has come.
05:50If you call it Ambedkari Rang, you can clearly see the Ambedkari color on the dress of Samajwadi party.
05:56This is the moment they feel when Mayawati is getting weak with the label of the BJP's B team, especially
06:03by the political pundits across Uttar Pradesh.
06:05And that's why Khaleesh feels that this is the best time to hit the chord and get most of the
06:10PDA vote bank.
06:11And what is PDA? We haven't seen anything like PDA before the Lok Sabha elections.
06:14But it gained results and converted into the seats of Lok Sabha for the Congress as well.
06:20So that's why Khaleesh Adhav is stressing on the point of the PDA, where he also counts P with Pandit
06:26and he also mentions P as Pichoda.
06:28So that's his logic, because he knows he doesn't have to do much for the MYA, because he knows that
06:33that's the vote bank which has been intact with him.
06:36The battle is for the PDA.
06:38It's for the BJP as well, it's for the Samajwadi party as well, it's for the third front, whatever will
06:42be coming in the coming days.
06:44It's for them as well.
06:45All right. So PDA, that's Pichre Dalits and Alp Sankhyak, which could be perhaps a deciding factor when it comes
06:53to UP elections,
06:54where everything is about arithmetic at the moment, because UP votes a particular way.
06:59But this time around, is there going to be a shift?
07:01We'll be watching the space and cutting across to Samarth almost on a daily basis now at 5.30 to
07:07get a grip on how the groundswell really is all about.
07:10Thanks so much for joining us.
