In 2027, the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift will both begin in the United Kingdom – the first time both Grands Départs have taken place in the same country, outside France.

The joint UK Grands Départs mark an important moment for cycling, with both the men’s and women’s Tours showcased on one of the world’s greatest sporting stages. With millions of spectators expected, it will be the largest free-to-watch sporting event in UK history.

Hosting both Tours will inspire participation at every level, building on the UK’s proud legacy of cycling success and innovation.

A dedicated social impact programme, JOY, will deliver lasting impact beyond 2027, focused on improving health and wellbeing, skills development and connecting communities. The programme will create an opportunity for young people to develop and showcase their skills whilst bringing together community groups to showcase and celebrate their local area and include a nationwide volunteer programme offering thousands of people the chance to be part of these historic sporting events first-hand.

05:17The restless winds tearing the competition apart
05:20Ambition ignites
05:22Only resolve remains
05:24As they charge into Deansgate for the final sprint
05:28For stage 2, they ascend
05:31Towards unforgiving rises of the Peak District
05:34The clues in the name
05:36The wildness of the route matched only by the riders' determination
05:40Which they'll need for the upcoming Snake Path
05:44They'll then dive into the valley of historic dark waters
05:48Before the lush countryside is cut by Sheffield's steely glare
05:52Where the finish line awaits
05:55And beyond the steel and stone, London awaits
05:59Electric, breathless, waiting to witness history
06:03A city where triumph and heartbreak share the same finish line

10:13An iconic stage demands an iconic stage
10:20Team time trial
10:21A particular test
10:51Hello, my friends
10:53My name's John Dutton
10:54I am Group Chief Executive of British Cycling
10:56And I am delighted to introduce the Readiness to Work programme for the Grand Depart
11:002027
11:01The Grand Depart offers an opportunity for thousands of people to get involved for a volunteer programme called JoyMaker
11:08As part of that, we have a Readiness to Work employability programme
11:12Which offers an opportunity for young people to come and enjoy a mega sporting event
11:17But also to build confidence, resilience and to get skills as they embark on getting into employment
11:24You need experience to get the job, but you also need a job to get experience
11:27We know that there are more than a million 16 to 24 year olds not in employment, education or training
11:33And for many of those, 84% want to change that
11:37We want to do something about it
11:39We want to help people gain experience, confidence, build resilience
11:43And through our Readiness to Work programme
11:45We want to address some of the employability challenges
11:47I think programmes are probably one of the biggest things for young people
11:50Being on them gives you a real networking platform
11:56Mentoring, it helps a young person develop where they want to go
11:59But also having it personalised towards them
12:02They're asking the questions that they want to know
12:04It's helped me get jobs easier
12:06It's helped me also get more volunteering experience in better roles as well
12:11We know how important that first step is
12:13You will send an email, you'll apply for a job
12:17100 to 200 times, nothing
12:19You get an interview, you don't get the job
12:21And you start to question yourself
12:22Am I doing it right? Could I do more?
12:24It's a mental burden
12:26This experience is common to so many young people
12:29But it is life changing when people get the opportunity to change that
12:33You're constantly trying and trying and trying
12:35And it just doesn't come and then eventually it does
12:37It's quite emotional really
12:39I mean it's almost like you're finally back where you want to be
12:43It's that next step in your journey
12:44You feel like everything's back on course
12:46This programme is designed to create genuine pathways into employment
12:51Not short term opportunities
12:53Yeah I think volunteering experience is quite good for
12:56Definitely like building a repertoire up of yourself and what you're interested in
13:01It's good to take yourself out of your comfort zone
13:03I think when you're looking for work you're going into a new environment
13:07And volunteering is almost a small piece of that
13:09To increase my confidence to be able to speak to people more
13:12Open myself up more to ask for more opportunities as well
13:16And it helps me build a better CV ready for working
13:20If you're a young person ready to take that next step
