00:0150 years ago, in a tiny bar called the Stonewall Inn,
00:05LGBTQ people fought back against years of oppression.
00:10Today, this history lives on around the world.
00:15It lives in moments big...
00:17This is who I am.
00:19...and small.
00:20In voices old...
00:24...and new.
00:25I'm a queer person.
00:26I am so powerful.
00:30The story of America is a story of progress.
00:32Sometimes we can mark that progress in special places.
00:34One of these special places is the Stonewall Inn.
00:37The first national monument dedicated to the story
00:40of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community
00:43and their fight for equal rights.
00:46New York City's LGBT Community Center,
00:49with support from the National Park Service and Google,
00:52is working to preserve this story
00:54and bring it to as many people as possible,
00:56taking the idea of a national monument
00:58and bringing it to life.
01:06By digitizing archival materials
01:08from the early years of the movement.
01:10By capturing the voices at the front of the fight.
01:13It felt like you were free.
01:15You didn't have to hide anymore.
01:17By finding voices we've yet to hear
01:19and bringing them all together in a living monument.
01:22We're gonna stand up and take our own rights into our own hands.
01:26Stonewall made us a people.
01:27We all knew it was different now.
01:29For everyone, everywhere,
01:31where we all can see the history
01:33and at our own.
01:35Well done.
01:56Well done.
