Tesla's humanoid robots are now rolling off a real production line. π€π
On October 21, 2026, Tesla said it has started building its Optimus humanoid robot at its Fremont factory in California, on the line where the Model S and Model X used to be made. Tesla calls them its "first production-quality bots." The goal is 20,000 robots a week on a line designed for a million a year, but Elon Musk says getting there will take at least a year. The catch: deliveries to outside customers are now aimed at the end of 2027. The hardest parts are still the hands and reliability; Musk says the robot can't wear out after a month. So Tesla is building an "Optimus Academy," where thousands of bots practice tasks and learn, which Musk compared to how a toddler learns.
