00:13what's good Knicks fans welcome back to another edition of New York got game the banner is up
00:17the 2026-2027 season is underway for the Knicks but the win total still zero three games into
00:24their title defense the Knicks are 0-3 after letting a 10.4th quarter lead slip away against
00:29Orlando so of course there are plenty of questions is this a championship hangover or is it something
00:35that deserves more concern to answer some of those questions and more joining me is a man who
00:40covers the Knicks for ESPN the one and only Vincent Goodwill joins me now here on New York got game
00:46Vinny what's good my guy what's going on bro how you doing man I'm good man I'm good I'm good
00:52maintaining it trying to enjoy this fall weather before it gets really cold and then I'm you know
00:56don't really want to be out here but you know I'm doing I'm doing okay glad you were doing well
01:00my guy let's get into it Vinny a lot to talk about with the Knicks okay three games into their
01:05title
01:05defense still searching for their first win when you look at how the Knicks are playing what concerns
01:10you the most and what do you think fans should have and I know this is hard with New Yorkers
01:14sometimes what should fans have some patience with here I mean I think you should have some patience
01:20with the whole thing right like you did just come off of winning the championship last June so I'm not
01:27surprised that they're having struggles I guess I'm surprised that they're 0-3 but when you look at
01:32who they've lost today lost to three teams in the Eastern Conference that have serious championship
01:38aspirations and I think there's something to being adjusted to being the hunted like you were the dot
01:45on the 76ers board you're the dot on the Celtics board last night against Orlando yeah I'm getting
01:52close to hitting that button but not like not a panic it's it's the how that the way that the
01:58Knicks
01:59are playing that to me gives me you know some pause the three-point shooting isn't there the defending
02:04isn't there I think it's important to note and I say this with like all due respect and whenever
02:10someone says all due respect disrespect is coming but I'm not going to disrespect y'all right this
02:15was a third seed in the Eastern Conference last year a third seed in the Eastern Conference that was
02:21not traditionally as strong so 53 wins was a very good season and they figured it out during the playoffs
02:29but they had a very up and down regular season like the adjustment to Mike Brown was not smooth like
02:35as late as late March they lost three in a row and Josh Hart was saying man we got to
02:38fix some stuff
02:39around here so I think the playoffs and the finals and everything that happened around it you know it
02:44gives you a better feeling but they overcame their issues not that they didn't have any issues not that
02:51they didn't have flaws they just overplayed their flaws and now you're starting to see some of those
02:55flaws come to bear so that's a good point and it's something that I may be a little bit perplexed
03:03at
03:03at times with the fan base Vinny because the point that you just made last regular season was not
03:09smooth within the transition of Mike Brown the Knicks did have highs when you looked at the NBA Cup
03:15they'd have the lows as you said even in January and then in March and they figured things out you
03:20know
03:20this NBA season can go up and down I sometimes don't get why people think it won't be like that
03:27well we've seen this before with plenty of teams and throughout the year like it's never going to just be
03:31that smooth especially coming after a championship and a celebration around it that was unlike any
03:36other just because it was the Knicks yeah I think a lot of that plays into it right and players
03:44have
03:44talked about it like you've been receiving kudos all summer and pats on the back and everything else
03:49and it's hard to come back and like you gotta think the last couple of years the past few years
03:53starting with the Thibodeau era even though he changed the culture the series that you guys won that
03:59the Knicks won a lot of those series were series where you weren't favored so you had the underdog
04:05sort of label you had that underdog mentality now you're not the underdog anymore now you are you are
04:11living at Central Park you know what I'm saying like you ain't slumming it no more you know like you
04:16are
04:17you in the penthouse now so it's I wonder how difficult it's going to be to master up and get
04:26all
04:26that extra motivation when I've heard this from champions all the time Dexter and it's really
04:31hard to get people to understand you are playing 82 playoff games in a regular season right there is
04:38no just a regular game for those guys on the other side it's their chance to say we knocked off
04:44the
04:44champs and we've seen it happen through with Golden State when they won Oklahoma City last year even
04:50Oklahoma City had this great regular season they took everybody's best shot and by the time
04:55the the conference finals came along they were so fatigued and worn out and then they ran up against
05:01the team that had their number and everything else like this is what this NBA's era is no team is
05:08that
05:08much greater than its competition anymore so that means you have to work that much harder to maintain
05:14that competitive edge and any little bit of slippage that means Mitchell Robinson not being there that
05:20means Josh Hart, Mikael Bridges, OGN, they'll be not shooting well any of those things can lead to
05:27you know an 0-3 start but once again y'all we got 79 games left we got a whole
05:32another six months
05:34everybody please calm down I'm just saying I'm just saying it's only it's only three games some
05:40people gonna say well you guys aren't angry enough you're never gonna see me like that because
05:44that just that's just not my get down that's not how it works but you know some people gotta jump
05:49out
05:49the window I want to talk to you about Mike Brown Vinny how he's reacted to the start because
05:54he did call out the Knicks physicality and their failure to fight through screens after the game in
05:58Boston what are you seeing from the Knicks perimeter defenders and how much of that do you think can be
06:03addressed through scheme versus individual effort that we're seeing with the Knicks right now
06:08I think it's more individual effort than anything else uh when you look at defense is so much effort
06:16defense is presence defense is making them feel you whatever that is right sometimes it's even
06:23following right just making them feel you but knowing that they don't that they're not getting
06:27like free chili or anything like that the thing to me that gives me I would say Knicks fans cover
06:35your
06:35ears I'm about to say something encouraging you've seen points in every game where the Knicks look
06:43like the Knicks it can be a three-minute stretch a four-minute stretch or whatever it is you see
06:48stretches where they're defensively getting after it the ball is popping and moving around and they
06:54look like the thing they look like in the playoffs and then the effort tails off Jalen Brunson said it
07:00last night I you know I asked him like hey there are times where you look like this and then
07:04what
07:04happens he said we get a little satisfied you know what I mean and that's a very honest and human
07:09emotion last year the Knicks tightened the screws and teams folded okay the Cavs folded in game one they
07:19weren't competitive after game one Philly folded this is a new Philly team Atlanta folded after the first
07:27half of game four right folded cooked done that's what the Knicks were used to doing where when we
07:34decide that the game is over you're going to oblige that's not the case anymore or or if that was
07:41in a
07:41very specialized sample size to get through the playoffs and not to say that it isn't indicative
07:48but teams know what's coming now and I think to some degree and James Edwards pointed this out and he
07:54pointed out before I got a chance to ask the question the Knicks have this advantage decks
07:59where they have the continuity right right they know exactly who they are and the other teams have
08:06to figure out who they are but on the flip side of that the other teams know who the Knicks
08:11are
08:12so while they're figuring themselves out they can scout they know exactly how the Knicks are going to play
08:17Townsend is going to get the ball at the elbow at the top you're going to move you're going to
08:20have
08:21some cutters you're going to try to create some confusion somebody's going to cut to the rim
08:24somebody's going to pop out some three-point line if now dribble handoff boom you flow into pig and
08:28row like teams know how to guard and defend that because there's so much tape while the Knicks don't
08:33have tape on these new teams all right so it's it's it's a it's a flip side you'd rather have
08:38the
08:39continuity but you also understand that teams have film on you so when it dating back to your question
08:44yeah this physicality you want to see Mikel Bridges be a little more physical you want to see
08:50Josh Hart and like you we talk about fighting over screens and not dying on screens like that's
08:56just pointing to being connected and calling stuff out and this is a veteran team sometimes you're
09:02going through the motions and everything else and sometimes players are going to be holding
09:05themselves accountable that got nothing to do with the coach yo I I think you I think you made a
09:10really
09:10good point there and the point that you made and also the question that James had asked too right
09:14in that that you have the continuity that is good for a team every team wants that I think that
09:19matters and I think we both would agree yeah that matters when it comes to basketball but the thing
09:23is the the chess game of it all is the thing that we love about sports right we love that
09:28hey this team
09:29figured this thing out but now the rest of the leagues figured them out and they have to now try
09:34to figure
09:34them out and that's the beauty of it and that part to what you mentioned it's never easy that's
09:40never easy for any team it's always going to be a challenge I think the mistake is in those who
09:46thought it would be easy I I didn't and we'll get into this more but there's a variety of factors
09:51for that but I never thought that it would be easy so I appreciate your answer there Vinny also
09:55I will say coach Brown identified after the Orlando game unforced turnovers transition defense
10:02defensive rebounding is an issue when you look at those three problems I just mentioned there which
10:08one of those would you put at the top of the list for the Knicks right now and why would
10:11that be
10:12I would probably say the turnovers because that's not anything that and he said it you know Mike is
10:19always going to be really diplomatic right like Mike is not never going to credit the other team
10:26that's just how he rolls how he gets down he's very respectful but at the same time he's going to
10:32say
10:32look those turnovers were unforced and you look at this team now the team that had one of the best
10:39point differentials one of the best offensive ratings throughout the course of the playoffs last
10:45year last I checked 30th in offensive rating right now dead last in the league and the difference in
10:53roster is Mitchell Robinson now if you want to say three-point shooting would be a lot better if Mitch
11:00was there because Mitch a lot of times last year at least three or four games I could remember
11:04would get an offensive rebound kick it out for a three and a lot of times that's the best type
11:09of
11:09three-point shooting you guys when defenses are in scramble mode you can count on your center who can
11:15take on two players boxing him out creating the disadvantage at the top of the key and next thing
11:20you know you guys have a momentum shift in the way that we've seen the garden blow sometimes it only
11:25takes one three and all of a sudden the floodgates opening you no longer have that and you get Andre
11:31Drummond and James Wiseman and they're trying to figure out that backup center situation there
11:35those things come into play right like you're shooting I want to say 23% look at this I feel
11:41like it was like 23% no 32% excuse me 32% from three so far this year third
11:46and that is with Carl
11:47Towns who came into last night leading the league in three-point shooting once again super small sample
11:55size so the the lack of three-point shooting in addition to the turnovers those are things that are going
12:02to prevent any good offense from looking like any type of normal offense three game sample size
12:10nobody's ringing the alarm but it is something that you have to look at and say hey we got to
12:14pay a
12:15little more attention to detail we got to be a lot more focused on how we are creating shots for
12:20ourselves as opposed to dribbling the ball off our foot yep and we saw we saw I'm saying is that
12:26to me is
12:26no I'm with you on this that was number one for me on the list with this next team through
12:29granted small sample size theater as your guy Brian Winhorse likes to say it's only three games
12:34but you got to take care of the ball you got to win possessions Nick's not doing that right now
12:38thus far early in the season now back to the Orlando game they led by 10 in that one with
12:43just over nine
12:44minutes left they end up losing by nine to your point last year they were the best fourth quarter
12:50team in terms of net rating in the league when you looked at that game against the Magic where did
12:54it
12:54all go wrong Vinny where did that game get away from them you know what games like that get away
13:00from you it gets away from you in the beginning the fourth quarter becomes more or less a mirror
13:07of what happens in the first three as opposed to the fourth quarter being a completely different game
13:13like you have the seeds of what goes on in the fourth of the first three quarters and they sprout
13:18in
13:18fourth and Franz Wagner he had a he had a game right and I felt like this was a trap
13:24game for
13:25New York anyway Paulo Banqueiro was out oh it's going to be a get right game for the Knicks perfect
13:31scenario and everything else and Franz Wagner sometimes guys play better with better opportunities
13:36and Franz Wagner is a guy who was a match-up nightmare if I remember correctly there was a game
13:43in
13:43November last year against Orlando that caused some consternation in the Knicks locker room
13:49maybe Josh Hart was benched in the fourth quarter that game or maybe it was like it was like a
13:53Memphis
13:53game in Orlando game back to back or something like my memory actually escapes me uh but in some
13:59cases it can be a bad match-up to some degree but I do think in the fourth quarter when
14:06you got Franz
14:06Wagner who's got 21 of 23 and a 4 13 boards and nine assists like he single-handedly changed the
14:14tone
14:14of that but when you start off 12 no 12-0 right remember they started off 12 nothing they were
14:21beating
14:21up on Wendell Carter you know they were setting the hard screens on him him and Josh Hart got into
14:26it
14:26then him and OG got into it you felt like okay some of the Knicks chippiness is back and whatever
14:33it was
14:33and Orlando didn't score until that flagrant one was called on OG Ananobi and some of that Knicks
14:39physicality started to tear you know sort of tail off a little bit after that you can't let a team
14:44come back in NBA games along it's not you know 20 point leads or like five point leads but when
14:50you get
14:50off to that type of start decks you gotta keep the foot on that opponent's neck by and large and
14:58by the
14:58halftime by the end of the quarter Orlando was in the game by halftime Orlando felt like
15:03they could win so it's no longer running and hiding like they did last postseason it's other
15:09teams realizing the game is 48 minutes and once again if the Knicks aren't shooting well from three
15:14and you aren't defending well and then you're not getting back on defense there's nothing you got
15:19to hang your hat on yeah nothing in that game you're right they were up 12-0 in that game
15:24they
15:24weren't able to I don't say put it away but they weren't able to gain control of that game moving
15:29forward now in that same game and I know and I wasn't at that one but you were there
15:34Brunson finishes with 28 points in this one did have that costly turnover late goes three for six
15:39at the line missing free throws is another thing we could talk about with this Knicks team how do
15:43you evaluate his late game play and where do you think his teammates can make those possessions
15:48easier for him down the stretch like we saw from them during the championship run
15:53yeah I think I mean did they play a whole lot of close games last year in the playoffs
15:58no no because of the fourth quarter stuff we talked about right like because they were so good in the
16:02fourth quarter but you're right it's a good point they didn't they didn't play a lot of close games
16:07there was what game two against Atlanta I think there was game one against Cleveland
16:16game three again game three against Atlanta game of course game four again game three and game four
16:24against San Antonio you know what I mean like the finals the finals games were reasonably close like
16:30there weren't you know wild swings there were wild momentum swings throughout the course of the game
16:35but but to your point Jalen Brunson didn't feel like he had to win the game by himself right in
16:42those
16:42games he could be the closer without having to force his game now because there isn't much for
16:49him to lean on then there there comes the matter of okay I gotta do this by myself you know
16:55what I
16:55mean I think it's a natural human thing I don't think it I'm saying Jalen Brunson's playing hero ball
17:00not saying that at all I'm saying when you look around at your offensive options you are looking around
17:07and saying okay who's creating something now Carl Towns had a game last night Carl Towns actually has
17:13been more consistent statistically than anybody now if you want to say hey Carl stop stop with the
17:20fouling you know I mean silly fouls or whatever it is that's part of the Carl Anthony Towns package I
17:25don't think you're going to not get that um but it's I think I'm not too concerned but I think
17:31it's also
17:31important to remember he did have like left wrist surgery that in the offseason and of course he's
17:37going to say that he's fine and I don't have any reason to believe that he's not okay but he
17:42did have
17:43left wrist surgery and there is some atrophy there is some adjustments you know what I mean that that
17:49come with that type of thing he played through it in the playoffs he wound up having surgery after he
17:53was you know 80 85 percent going into training camp maybe he's still just at 90 percent and he's not
18:01going to talk about it like we know this is how he is as the leader and everything else and
18:06he said
18:06last night we got to get I got to get guys more organized on offense and that just comes to
18:11hey we
18:12got to get better shots how do we get better shots by moving the ball ball movement the body moves
18:18everything else not that everybody was standing around but they're they're it's very easy to go
18:23and look at Jalen Brunson and say Jalen please save us yeah that that is and that's not what that's
18:29not going to win the Knicks games in the way they want to win games particularly against really good
18:34competition now speaking of moving the ball and some fans are going to point to this but and I get
18:39it Tyler Kohler nine assists no turnovers against Orlando when you look at that performance
18:45what did that performance show you about his fit and what else would you need to see for
18:51from him before giving him a larger consistent role and I only ask that question because some fans are
18:58going to say ah see look at Kolek ball's moving nine assists no turnovers Alvarado is out we need to
19:05give him more run where so where are you on the Tyler Kohler experience there were a lot of cheers
19:11for
19:11Tyler Kohler when he checked into the game yesterday it was an audible audible cheer uh
19:17when he checked into the game were you surprised by that brother I have covered the NBA and some since
19:252007 I am never surprised okay I'm too old I am too grizzled at this point don't let the young
19:33face fool you I done been around I done seen this okay I'm not I'm not surprised I ain't surprised
19:40at
19:40this I ain't upset at it I ain't surprised at it I ain't upset at it like I get it
19:44um I don't know it
19:47that's hard because one thing Jose Alvarado brings is defensive pressure and that's one thing that
19:56when you talk about a deep perimeter defense we got to get better on that end defensive pressure can
20:01create turnovers that can create easier opportunities we've seen that a lot Tyler
20:07Kohler get a great game am I ready to put him in front of Alvarado there was a reason that
20:13they
20:13went and got Jose Alvarado at the trade deadline last year you know what I mean and things sort of
20:18started to go from there so it's good to have a player that in a pinch can create offense but
20:23I
20:23think it's also indicative of what this team doesn't have that Alvarado can come in and by just
20:30sheer presence of doing what he does that he can have nine assists and no turnovers like a lot of
20:37times you didn't even realize that that he had that until you looked at the stat sheet just because
20:41the Knicks offense was so disjointed it wasn't that man his offense is just moving so much better it
20:46just looked like the Knicks offense and then once again y'all this team is 30th in offensive efficiency
20:5330th 30th number again small sample size small sample size three games but we will see if that is
20:59able to change right now offense not looking good let's get to the backup center talk here Vinny
21:05because in against Orlando and I hear you saying that Mike Brown played James Wiseman over Andre
21:13Drummond in the second half against the Magic however should note for the people Vinny will say
21:18this too that was a rough stint for Wiseman okay that was that was a rough time for him on
21:23the court
21:24and I get it I know we're three games into the season here and I personally I had some concerns
21:30about losing Mitch and Andre Drummond signing so I'm gonna put that out here I had some concerns here
21:35do the Knicks have a backup center problem already with what we're seeing I don't have a backup center
21:43problem but when you lose a player like Mitchell Robinson who clearly was valuable enough for the
21:50Boston Celtics to pay him and say you're gonna be our starter like you're saying this is a starting
21:55level center who plays 16 minutes a night for us or 18 minutes or 20 minutes a night for us
22:02you're not going to replace him with another starting level center like those guys are just not that easy
22:09to come by that's quickly going to be a drop-off you're just hoping that the variance and skill like
22:15Andre Drummond has better you know like ball skills dribbling he's probably a little bit quicker
22:20you know lighter on his feet he's not as massive of a presence as Mitch you know Mitch was like
22:26big
22:26dudes are big dudes you know what I'm saying like there there's no doubt about that but I know Drummond
22:31has had you know years where he averaged you know four assists for the Pistons you know I mean
22:36where he could be an offensive hub so he's going to bring a different dimension
22:41um than Mitchell Robinson you know what I mean and I think in the first game he he played well
22:47in the
22:48first half and then he looked like he was out of gas you know what I mean like and I
22:52think that's
22:53something that comes with Mike Brown learning his team and I and that makes all the sense in the world
22:59and Mike said man I've left him out there a little longer he was rolling or whatever it was and
23:05you know
23:05Andre Drummond this is year what 14 15 like I covered Andre Drummond when he was a rookie when
23:11he was a 18 year old in Detroit you know like he's like 32 now or something like that you
23:17know like
23:18this is a different this is a different player at this stage of his career you're trying to figure
23:23it out and James Wiseman for all his talents he's just he just doesn't carry the physical presence
23:29he's a little you know he's a little lighter so when you are used to Mitchell Robinson
23:33carrying a massive shadowy presence and then you got someone who's a little slimmer and you got to
23:40see that he didn't carry the presence he wasn't as quick to the ball he wasn't as much of a
23:44defensive
23:45deterrent the reason that Andre got benched in the first half the Knicks scored Mitch uh and
23:51Wendell Carter you know ran beat him down court for a layup and Mike Brown you know with with the
23:57short leash and Mike Brown has said from the start of camp Dexter he was like look the starters are
24:02the
24:02they're gonna play the bench guys all have to earn their way so while perhaps it's a standard
24:08that has a bit of a short leash right now again it's three games it's probably going to figure
24:14itself out and the Knicks don't necessarily have a whole lot of options right now your team is your
24:19team yeah they don't they don't really got a lot of options now you say that fans are going to
24:23want
24:23this figured out ASAP that's not how this works of course they have time to figure this out I'm with
24:29you on that and we'll see I I like Mike Brown standard on this just to be very clear I
24:33if hey
24:34you don't run back on defense you get beat by Wendell Carter I'm fine with that now you know
24:40Wiseman came in game looked a little too fast for him but it's a learning experience we'll see we'll see
24:48I don't know we'll see a couple more things for you Vinny championship hangover that's a term I
24:55think it's an easy term easy label for people to reach for when you look at this team what would
25:00you need to see to believe that that term championship hangover is actually part of the
25:05problem and how do you distinguish it from a team that's still trying to find this rhythm here
25:10this season you don't find out about a championship hangover to you uh hugging the commode you know
25:18what I mean you don't know if you've had too much champagne until until your stomach tells you oh you
25:26drank too much you know like you don't know right right I here's what I will say to win a
25:35championship
25:35everything has to go right it's so so fragile right and so many things whether it's on the floor
25:44off the floor it's just been too much noise around the New York Knicks to start the season that don't
25:51have that doesn't have anything to do with basketball right Josh Hart and Carl Towns' extensions right
26:01that was a big thing we're not going into the second apron all of that stuff
26:05then we got the stuff about the championship rings where the box is empty did the coaches get rings
26:11who got rings who didn't you need to have all these things on one pace because repeating is hard enough
26:17and I'm a believer man you got to create positive juju I really do believe that because winning is hard
26:24and repeating is harder like when Golden State and I'm not comparing these two events so don't take this
26:33as literal and I know Knicks fans take everything people say as literal
26:39oh you know oh you know something about that Vinny you do you know something about yeah yeah allegedly
26:44I participated I participated in some of the literal uh language I was trying not to use the word
26:50participation through this whole discussion with us and there you go you brought it up
26:54bro who's the word for bro I I don't care I'm I grew up in Detroit I grew up in
27:00the real Detroit I am
27:01not tripping about New York right but when Golden State won their last championship yeah and then in
27:08training camp you know the Draymond Green Jordan Poole thing happens and we saw that like had a cloud
27:16over the team for the entire season and how much it wears on you in addition to you just played
27:23deep into June
27:24the year before like there's a physical fatigue there's a mental fatigue and all those things start to add up
27:32a
27:32little bit and by the time Golden State got to the playoffs that year that year by the time they
27:38got to the
27:38playoffs man they were worn out they were just emotionally physically worn out so you want to
27:45give yourself as much of an advantage as possible like the Knicks can go and beat Detroit and beat
27:51Philly on Friday in Philadelphia and everybody will be happy they won't be you know three and two four and
27:58one or whatever it is but people will feel better about where they are it does not take much let's
28:05see
28:06where they are after 20 games let's see where they are come Thanksgiving like that's what I want to
28:13see before I'm able to say championship hangover and everything else but you do want to minimize some
28:19of the nonsense you want to minimize some distractions that got nothing to do with anything on the floor
28:24I'm glad you said that because I do a follow-up for you on that what did you make of
28:28the whole
28:28ring gate and how MSG handled everything with that and do you think that is a because it sounds like
28:37you think it has some impact I agree with you on the contract stuff too I'm just fair enough fair
28:42enough fair enough it's unnecessary um whatever it is yep unnecessary on every single element of it
28:56from soup to nuts I agree that means y'all from the start of dinner to that to the dessert
29:03right
29:05unnecessary everything that's it that's a perfect word for it unnecessary it feel it feels unnecessary
29:10and to your point I do think that when you have things like that it can affect the juju with
29:18good
29:18vibes around the team and trust me some of the worst things that I've heard I can't even say out
29:25loud
29:27yeah I would I mean I may know some of those I understand I understand and it's all right
29:35what are we doing here get your house in order this ain't that hard yeah we won't talk about it
29:43here
29:43but there's been a lot of unnecessary that I know we both have known about hey hey man I'm with
29:52you
29:52that's all I'm saying I got a black mouth I'm sorry get your house in order got a whole bunch
29:58of meetings for me you know what I mean oh get your house in order oh yeah definitely I'm with
30:04you on
30:04that I guess the last thing for me is okay Knicks fans gonna try to look ahead you just talked
30:08about
30:09the schedule next up they got the Pistons team that beat them in all three regular season games last
30:14year so you talked about Philly coming up after that over the next couple of games Vinny what
30:20specific changes although I will I'm gonna put a caveat in this and just saying that I'm with you
30:26on that when you look at the start of a season you got to go through a 20-25 game
30:30sample before you
30:31start you know really really looking at what's with the team but if you're just looking at the next
30:36couple of games what specific changes will convince you that the Knicks are addressing the
30:40problems that we discussed here in this episode and what would make you more concerned about them
30:45even if they pick up a win he is still like ah this still doesn't look good what what do
30:49you what
30:49do you need to see from them in the next couple of games I want to see offense looking a
30:58little more
30:58crisp just looking like we know what we want to go with the ball like Detroit is going to be
31:05without
31:05Jalen Duren maybe they're going to be without Asar Thompson who defends Jalen Brunson really really
31:12well and defend them really really well last year if he doesn't play different ball game right in
31:19Detroit last year they played without Jalen Duren and those in like I think two of those three games
31:25uh and still beat them by like an average of 30 so I I don't know how much but new
31:30team new season
31:31right but I want to see the Knicks have sustained stretches give me like six minutes where you
31:41are able to connect both sides of the floor and by what I mean by connecting both sides of the
31:45floor
31:45if you come if you force a turnover you capitalize on it right if you force a turnover and you
31:51get an
31:51unbalanced floor identify the open man like hit it and not just it doesn't mean always hitting the
31:58three or whatever it is it just means we are running our lanes wide and if somebody's running
32:04strong side to the corner somebody's running weak side to the basket whatever it is we are executing
32:09things from the backboard of of the locker room like things that you ride on the chalkboard to the
32:15floor whether you win the game or not is isn't as material because those things balance itself
32:21throughout the course of 82 games but the turnovers I think the unforced turnovers are things that are
32:27concentration concerns you know what I mean like are you going to hit Carl Towns on the trail threes
32:33is Mikkel Bridges going to assert himself the way that he has not necessarily asserted himself
32:39in the first three games of the season those are things it's it's not like these big huge changes you
32:45ain't got big huge changes to make right your roster is your roster your team is your team you already
32:50got
32:51enough you know what I mean you got enough connective tissue as is it's can you connect longer than two
32:56minute stretches can you play for three minute stretches five minute stretches six minute
33:01stretches and then connect those things together you're not going to play a perfect game and
33:05nobody's expecting them to but I do think that they have to play a little more connected on especially
33:11on the offensive ends I think you get a chance to set your defense and you're not turning the ball
33:14over
33:14the defense looks a lot better and once again 30th in offensive rating to start the season yeah
33:20that's got it well it's only way it can go is up so Nick's got to get better on that
33:25and do all the
33:25little things that the bar's the floor the bar yeah I will say this Vinny saw me well Vinny and
33:32I
33:33were there for opening night and I came back down so we're going to Mike Brown's presser Vinny sees me
33:36and Vinny says uh Dex the same last year which I I took that to say it's like look as
33:44we talked about
33:44through this episode things are different there are going to be adjustments there's different feeling
33:48last year as you pointed out the top teams are adjusting to the Knicks the Knicks have to readjust
33:53the Knicks have the continuity but they haven't seen the film on these other teams so there's
33:56going to be some rough patches and this is a rough patch now do I think the Knicks will get
34:01out of it
34:01yeah I do but we'll see how that all looks gotta let gotta let the games play out man gotta
34:07let the
34:07games play out patience the other p-word that people got to realize patience you got some patience
34:13sometimes however we got to use another p-word for my man Vinny Goodwill that's participate we are
