00:00Picture walking up one morning with your face destroyed and the man who did it walking away free.
00:07That's where Cliface brings and it ends with a monster Gatham will never forget.
00:12Hey everyone, this movie is bloody but it's also one of the saddest monster stories I have seen in a
00:19long time.
00:20In the next 5 minutes, I will tell you the story, explain that ending and give you my score out
00:27of 5.
00:28Stay till the end because a joke from the very first tense comes back near the finish and it isn't
00:36funny anymore.
00:47Remember face-off to man-switched faces and a whole lot of range?
00:52Cliface starts in the same place but it acts something much sadder.
00:58Face-off asks, what if I wear someone else's face?
01:02Cliface asks, who am I, if I don't have one?
01:06Matt Hazen is the kind of actor Ebonyorn adores.
01:10He's charming, he's talented and he's just been nominated for Best Actor.
01:15Behind that smile thoughts, there's a boy from the roughest corner of Gatham who never quite believed he belonged.
01:24One night at a party, he falls for the wrong woman.
01:28Her boyfriend is Gatham's most feared crime boss, Marcos Jabo.
01:33Matt gets a wiring from his best friend, Corey.
01:37He doesn't listen.
01:39By morning, his beautiful face has been cut to ribbons.
01:43You had think the story would be about justice.
01:46It isn't.
01:48The woman lies about him on television.
01:50The court lets the boss walk free.
01:53And his own manager quietly derains his bank account.
01:57Within weeks, Matt is back in the neighborhood.
02:00He escaped.
02:01With no money, no friends and no face.
02:05Then comes a lifeline.
02:07Dr. Katiline Kaur is building tiny nano cells that can rebuild human tissues.
02:13She isn't allowed to test them on people.
02:17Matt begs her anyway.
02:19And it works, his face comes back.
02:22But the cells do not just rebuild skin.
02:25They listen to his feelings.
02:27Clamp Matt looks perfect.
02:29Angry Matt starts to melt.
02:31Then in a moment of public, his injection himself with far too much.
02:36That's the turning point.
02:38From here on, he can heal from anything.
02:41And he can wear anyone's face.
02:45And slowly, he stops trying to be a victim.
02:48Now I want to ask you something.
02:51Matt doesn't just get revenge.
02:53The movie keeps asking whether he's still himself while he's doing it.
02:58At one point, he stands in front of a mirror and a strange face stares back at him.
03:05Keep that mirror in mind because at the end, the movie answers its own question in a way I did
03:13not expect.
03:14I will show you in a minute.
03:16Matt hunts down the people who renewed him.
03:19One at a time.
03:21And the hardest betrayal is the one from his oldest friend.
03:25The cells get stronger.
03:27His emotions get older.
03:30Kathleen tears to hold him together.
03:32And for a little while, her touch is the only thing that keeps him clean.
03:39But Matt falls in love with her.
03:41And in his twist mind, love means becoming whoever she needs.
03:47Even the man she's already promised her life to.
03:51That's when Kathleen sees what he's really become.
03:55She pushes the kill switch.
03:57Matt collapses into a heap of a clay and slides into the swears.
04:03Sometime later, Kathleen gives a few dollars to a man on the street.
04:09He bows to her in the same quiet way Matt used to.
04:13She follows him underground.
04:15They talk.
04:16They apologize.
04:17They even hold each other.
04:19Then the camera backs away and we see the truth.
04:23That's not Kathleen.
04:24It's a statue of heart that Matt built from his own body.
04:28He was so desperate to be forgiven that he created the forgiveness himself.
04:34And when the dream breaks, his body grows into something huge and terrible.
04:41And he screams.
04:43So remember that first scene, The One I Promised You.
04:47When Matt first says that big threatening line on a talk show.
04:51It's a joke.
04:53The coward laughs.
04:54By the end, it's a promise.
04:57The line between acting and living is completely disappeared.
05:02And what about the kill switch?
05:04The film never explains why he survives.
05:08My guess is that the cells had been changing him long before that button was pressed.
05:15They were already part of him.
05:17So is lips a selling question?
05:20Is that still Matt or is it just the cells wearing him like a costume?
05:26Where's what I loved?
05:28Tom Rice Harris make Matt feel real.
05:31You are horrified by what he does.
05:34But you never stop feeling for him.
05:37The makeup effects are gruesome.
05:40But they are never just there to shock you.
05:43They always follow his emotions.
05:46Here's what didn't work for me.
05:49The story is simple.
05:51And one damn scene is the club felt a little silly.
05:54And if you are hoping for big DC Universe connection,
05:58you won't find many.
06:00Cliface is a sad bloody tragedy.
06:03So be ready for that.
06:05My score is 3.5 out of 5.
06:08It's not perfect, but I couldn't stop thinking about it.
06:12Now I want to hear from you.
06:14Did you watch Cliface?
06:16How many stars out of 5 would you give it?
06:20Tell me in the comments.
06:22And one more question.
06:24If that was Matt's last mirror,
06:26do you think there's any of the real man left?
06:29If you like this review,
06:31please like and subscribe.
06:33And I will see you in the next one.
06:36Bye-bye.
