01:52But first to the election in Israel
01:54Where no alliance of parties has secured the necessary majority
01:58That is not unusual as no single party has ever won 61 seats outright in the 120 member parliament
02:05Making coalitions the norm
02:07In their first reactions, Netanyahu and Eisenkot attacked each other for playing with Israel's security
02:13Take a listen
02:17It is forbidden, simply forbidden
02:20To endanger Israel by forming a government that relies on anti-Zionist Arab parties
02:29Netanyahu, do not dare to use Israel's security for your political needs
02:33To all the citizens of Israel, I say already now, I can assure you, the era of evasion has ended
02:42Joining me now is Elan Levy, a former spokesman of the Israeli government
02:47Good morning, Elan
02:48Good morning
02:50So, simple question
02:51What just happened and what happens next?
02:55That is not a simple question
02:57It's an excellent question
02:58And Israelis are waking up this morning, scratching their heads and asking what happened
03:01I mean, let's bring you an update now from the partial votes that have been counted
03:05With about 52% of the votes counted
03:09Netanyahu's bloc has 55 seats in the 120 seat Knesset
03:14The change bloc has 49 seats
03:18And the Arab parties have surged to a historic 16 seats
03:23It means now there are really three options
03:26A unity government
03:27A minority government
03:29Or fresh elections
03:31And all of those are going to require someone to surrender on some very serious coalition promises
03:37The prospect of a minority government headed by Eisenkot
03:42With the tacit support of the Arab parties
03:45Is looking a lot less likely
03:47Now that it seems they have dramatically underperformed
03:51There is still a risk that Netanyahu's bloc could pull off that magic number of 61 seats
03:57The votes are still being counted
03:58But until we have a clearer picture
04:00It would be pointless to speculate
04:02Yeah, obviously a very complex situation
04:05Is this the beginning of the end of the Netanyahu era?
04:09Or are we underestimating his extraordinary ability to cling to power?
04:15Oh no, this is an extraordinary comeback for Netanyahu
04:18Despite the October 7th massacre that happened on his watch
04:21Despite three years of war since then
04:23Despite huge public unrest and dissatisfaction over his alliance with the ultra-Orthodox parties
04:32And their demand for an exemption from military service
04:35Netanyahu is the leader of the largest party by a wide margin
04:40His bloc has a commanding lead over the change bloc
04:45If we put the Arab parties to one side
04:47And we can talk about why those are considered somewhat problematic
04:51Netanyahu has lost his majority
04:53It seems it's unlikely that he will hold on to a majority
04:57But unless someone else manages to form a government
05:00He remains the caretaker prime minister
05:02Either we go back to elections
05:04Or someone folds and sues for peace and joins his coalition
05:07Right, Aylan, I have to ask you this
05:10You mentioned the Arab-led parties
05:12They could hold the balance of power
05:14But how conceivable is it really
05:17That they will decide who becomes Israel next prime minister?
05:20I mean, despite the refusal of several opposition leaders to govern with them
05:24The possibility of a minority government headed by Eisenkot
05:29At least temporarily
05:30With the support of some of the Arab parties
05:34Was floated as an option
05:36Leaders within the change bloc are warning
05:39That would be extremely unpopular
05:41And would backlash
05:42And end up giving Netanyahu an even bigger majority in the next election
05:46As much as anyone wants to see the integration of Arabs into Israeli life
05:50I think most European listeners would not want to have an Islamist party
05:54Or an Arab communist party sitting in their own government
05:57Mansour Abbas made big steps to come towards the change bloc
06:02And yet still refuses to call Hamas a terrorist organization
06:05The Joint List, one of its newly elected candidates
06:09Dedicated their victory to the people of Gaza and occupied Jerusalem
06:13So they are still kryptonite for most of the mainstream parties
06:17It's possible that Eisenkot could rely on them
06:20To try to form a minority government
06:23It would be very unpopular and definitely unstable
06:26All right, Elan Levy, former Israeli government spokesman
06:28Thank you so much for your analysis this morning
06:32Now, America is heading for a political showdown
06:35And the stakes could hardly be higher
06:37In just one week, voters will decide who controls Congress
06:40In what is widely seen as a referendum on Donald Trump's presidency
06:44With Republicans fighting to hold on to power
06:47And Democrats hoping for a comeback
06:48The outcome could reshape Washington
06:51And Trump's last two years in the White House
06:54For more on this, I'm now joined by Keith Branham
06:57Senior advisor on U.S. politics at consulting firm Greenlane
07:00With more than a decade of experience
07:02As a Democratic strategist and campaign manager
07:05Good morning and thanks for coming on
07:07Good morning
07:08So right now, Democrats have a huge polling advantage
07:12On the generic ballot, likely voters prefer Democratic candidates
07:16Over Republicans by 11 points in their congressional districts
07:20But when it comes to Senate races
07:22The Democrats' lead narrows to just five points
07:25Is there still some nail-biting?
07:28Or do Democrats have it in the bag?
07:32There's definitely some nail-biting
07:34But this is far more nail-biting than Republicans would have wanted
07:38When we came in to 2026
07:41It was understood that the House
07:43Because of history
07:45Was probably in play for Democrats
07:46Democrats probably had a really good chance of winning it
07:50And the Senate was out of reach
07:52The map was just not in their favor
07:53That is how much the politics has changed
07:56Between January and now
07:58And there's a few reasons for that
08:00One, Democrats have recruited
08:02Really fantastic candidates
08:04Across some really difficult states
08:06That Republicans are used to winning
08:08And that Donald Trump in 2024
08:10Won by high single digits
08:13Sometimes double digits
08:14And for example
08:15You had a great candidate
08:17In Tallarico, in Texas
08:21Who won a really competitive primary
08:24And is going up against a Republican candidate
08:27Who is belated by scandal
08:28And this is put
08:30Keith, if I may
08:31I have to ask you this
08:32Over the past decade
08:33Pollsters understated Trump's and Republican strength
08:36Are the polls overestimating Democrats yet again?
08:42I would say the polls are not overestimating
08:44In fact, most polls are within the margin of error
08:49So it is a coin talk across so many of these districts
08:52Again, where we started in January
08:55That is just how much this landscape changed
08:58So just like in 2024
09:00Where you had a bunch of states
09:02That you could have said
09:03One way or another
09:04Would have gone for Kamala Harris
09:05Or for Donald Trump
09:06In the presidential election
09:07Now you have the same situation here
09:10Again, that's just how much
09:11The map has shifted
09:13Briefly, Keith
09:14To what extent would a Democratic Congress
09:16Have the ability to roll back Trump's policies?
09:20That is a really good question
09:22Because right now
09:23This Congress has been
09:25I would say very subservient
09:27To the President
09:28And the President has shown little interest
09:30In governing with Congress
09:31Now, with Democratic majorities
09:33Democrats will certainly
09:35And they have been very vocal
09:36About holding the President accountable
09:38And using their powers of oversight
09:41And investigation
09:41To try to do so
09:43I think we are in uncertain times
09:45Because the President normally
09:47In these next two years
09:48Would go into what we call
09:49The lame duck status
09:50And we'll probably not get a lot done
09:52Because, again, we're looking forward
09:54To the next presidential administration
09:56Because we have another presidential election
09:57Coming up next year
09:58All right
10:00All right, Keith
10:01Thank you so much
10:02Keith Branham
10:03U.S. Election Campaign Insider
10:04Thank you for your time this morning
10:06In a major diplomatic development
10:08Two of Ukraine's closest European allies
10:11Have opened a direct line to Vladimir Putin
10:13As efforts to end Russia's war
10:16Gather pace
10:17The leaders of Finland and Norway
10:19Initiated the call
10:20Which could pave the way
10:21For peace talks in Abu Dhabi next month
10:24With Europe seeking a seat
10:26At the negotiating table
10:27But the move has also raised
10:29The politically sensitive question
10:30In Brussels
10:31Who speaks for Europe
10:33In negotiations with Moscow
10:34Joining me now
10:36Is our correspondent
10:37Sasha Bakulina
10:38Good morning, Sasha
10:39So, what came out
10:40Of this phone conversation
10:42With Putin
10:43And does that bring
10:44Peace talks any closer?
10:46It does, actually
10:47It was a huge diplomatic step
10:48But at the same time
10:49It was as delicate
10:50And as sensitive
10:51Diplomatically speaking
10:52As it gets, Stefan
10:53Because both leaders say
10:54That they do represent
10:56Only their national governments
10:57And they do not speak
10:58For the European Union
10:59But still
11:00The question is there
11:01And the tension is here
11:02What about the EU?
11:03Do they represent the European Union?
11:04Do they represent Europe?
11:05They say no
11:06But they did insist
11:07That they consulted both Ukraine
11:08And the European Union
11:09Before going into those negotiations
11:11Let's take a listen
11:12To what Alexander Stoop
11:13Had to say
11:14Commenting on it
11:15The discussion with President Putin
11:18Was professional
11:19And direct
11:20And we, of course
11:23As Norway and Finland
11:25Continue to support
11:26Ukraine
11:27And work
11:28Towards a
11:29Lasting
11:30And just peace
11:32Now
11:33The road
11:34Towards a
11:35Meeting
11:36With the United States
11:38Ukraine
11:39Russia
11:40And Europeans
11:41Have been paved
11:43For Abu Dhabi
11:44Sometime
11:45In November
11:48President Zelensky
11:50Has also spoken
11:51About the next round
11:52Of negotiations
11:53What is he expecting
11:55And what conditions
11:57Is he setting?
11:58Kyiv wants two things
11:59Kyiv wants a ceasefire
12:00In any shape
12:01Or form of it
12:02And Kyiv wants to have
12:03Direct talks with Russia
12:04Both of those things
12:05Moscow has been rejecting
12:06For a very long time
12:07Also
12:08Moscow has been rejecting
12:09Any possibility
12:10Of direct talks
12:11With Europe as well
12:12So this is major
12:13If the first time
12:14They allow the possibility
12:16Of having European negotiations
12:17At the same time
12:18It's not clear
12:19Whether Europe
12:19Will be
12:20Or the European Union
12:21Will be represented
12:21At the talks
12:22In Abu Dhabi
12:23So far
12:24It is trilateral format
12:25Still that is on the agenda
12:26This is what
12:27Volodymyr Zelensky
12:28Said about it
12:29It is important
12:33That Europe
12:33Is involved
12:34In all diplomatic efforts
12:36Ukraine has always
12:37Insisted
12:38That Europe
12:38Must be present
12:39And must be involved
12:40In decision making
12:41And this applies
12:42To everyone in Europe
12:44No one should be
12:45Left out of the process
12:46I would like to thank
12:47Everyone who is
12:49Actively involved
12:49And who is helping us
12:53Our correspondent
12:55Sasha Vakulina
12:56Thank you very much
12:57A political earthquake
12:59In Serbia
13:00And potentially
13:01The end of an era
13:02After years of protests
13:04Mounting anger
13:05Over corruption
13:06And growing opposition
13:07To President
13:07Aleksandr Vucic
13:08Last Sunday's
13:10Parliamentary elections
13:11Have delivered
13:11A stunning upset
13:12With the student-led opposition
13:14Emerging victorious
13:16But bringing down
13:17An entrenched
13:18Political establishment
13:19Is one thing
13:20Governing
13:21A deeply divided
13:22Country
13:23Is quite another
13:24So
13:24Is Serbia
13:25Finally turning
13:26A page
13:27Joining me now
13:28Is Marco Prelek
13:29Senior Western Balkans
13:30Analyst
13:31With the International
13:31Crisis Group
13:32Good morning
13:33And thanks for
13:34Being with us
13:36Good morning
13:37It's a pleasure
13:37To be here
13:38So
13:38The student movement
13:39United people
13:40From very different
13:41Political backgrounds
13:42Now that their
13:44Common enemy
13:44Is gone
13:45What is holding
13:46Them together?
13:49That really
13:50Remains to be seen
13:51I mean I think
13:51The most important
13:52Thing to keep
13:54In mind
13:54About the
13:54The student movement
13:56Is that it is
13:57Not a political
13:58Party
13:59In any sense
14:00This is really
14:01A totally
14:01Unprecedented
14:02Thing
14:02The people that
14:03One
14:04None of them
14:05Are a
14:06None of them
14:07Are professional
14:08Politicians
14:08That was one
14:09Of the criteria
14:09For being
14:11Listed on the
14:12Student movement's
14:13Campaign list
14:14There's no
14:15There's no
14:17Single leader
14:17There's no
14:18Charismatic figure
14:19They really won
14:19The elections
14:20Purely on the
14:21Strength of
14:23Their promise
14:24To turn the page
14:25After 14 years
14:26Of the government
14:27Of President
14:29Vucic
14:30Serbians voted
14:31For change
14:32Obviously
14:32Particularly
14:33An end to
14:34Corruption
14:34How quickly
14:35Can the new
14:36Leadership deliver
14:37And what
14:37Happens if
14:38It fails
14:40I think
14:40This will
14:40Take a long
14:41Time
14:41I mean
14:41There's a
14:42Lot
14:42You know
14:43It is
14:4314 years
14:44Of an
14:44Entrenched
14:45System
14:45To
14:46First of
14:47All
14:47Understand
14:48And investigate
14:49And then
14:49Dismantle
14:50And replace
14:50With something
14:51Else
14:53I think
14:53There's
14:54I think
14:55It's
14:55Maybe
14:55Premature
14:56To start
14:57Worrying
14:58About what
14:58Happens if
14:59They fail
14:59They haven't
15:00Even taken
15:01Office yet
15:01I think
15:02It's
15:03Also
15:04Likely
15:05That we
15:05Overstate
15:06The extent
15:06To which
15:07The society
15:08Is divided
15:08A lot
15:09Of people
15:09Clung
15:10To
15:11The
15:12President
15:13Vucic's
15:13Party
15:14Because
15:14Of the
15:16Patriot
15:16System
15:16So as
15:17That is
15:18Dismantled
15:18Quite a
15:19Few
15:19Of them
15:19Will fall
15:20Away
15:20Leaving
15:20A
15:21Smaller
15:21Ideologically
15:22Committed
15:22Core
15:23As
15:24Happened

15:24Other

15:32Whether

15:34Want
15:34To
15:35Bring
15:35The
15:35Country
15:35Closer
15:36To

15:38Well
15:38They've

15:38They

15:39They
15:40Have
15:40Been
15:40Somewhat
15:41Ambivalent
15:42About
15:42Whether
15:42They
15:43Mean
15:43That
