Director Adam Wingard, joined by actor Adria Arjona, discusses the recurring morbidly hilarious shot of a corpse on a barbecue in their new film, 'Onslaught.' He reveals the surprisingly simple special effects rig that kept the body burning all night.
Transcript
00:00Adam, I was very tickled by the recurring shot throughout this movie of that poor dead guy frying on the
00:07barbecue.
00:08Can you talk about like making that runner happen? I assume you had to film it like a dozen times.
00:15I've been meaning to ask you this too.
00:17Yeah, well, no, you know, it's funny. It's like the special effects team had a very clever rig for that
00:24where they basically had almost like a metal exoskeleton
00:28and we just dressed it and literally you could just turn it on
00:33and just burn it all night long if you wanted, you know, and like I have one regret,
00:38which is I never got a close-up of the guy's like skin sizzling, you know.
00:43You always see it a little bit from a distance, but yeah.
00:46Yeah, that and not making s'mores, I guess.
00:50I feel like you guys really missed out on an opportunity there.
00:52You're right, yeah.
