00:00In Wagadougou, an entire neighborhood brings the Recreate Trials Theater Festival to life.
00:07For its 14th edition, running from October 24 to 31, residents of Bungsemtenga are hosting performances in their courtyard
00:15and have been co-producing the festival since its creation.
00:20Since February, choreographer Jibril Watara has been working with women and young people from neighborhood on the opening performance.
00:28Demushe, you meet people who are not at all familiar with the kinds of dance you know.
00:34They have their own dance, so you have to create with them.
00:37That means setting aside your own knowledge and drawing on theirs instead.
00:42What can they do? What can they offer through their bodies?
00:46Everyone knows how to dance. You just have to find the right direction.
00:51Agatso Reh, a member of the Bungsemtenga Women's Association, supports the festival.
00:57An amateur actress, she has been performing at the Recreate Trials since 2006.
01:04The choreographer is very young, energetic and hardworking.
01:09Even during rehearsals, you can see that if you don't have stamina, you can't keep up with him.
01:14We were worried because with Jibril Watara, you have to give everything.
01:19You can't give just a little. You have to give it to you all.
01:23And given our age, we wondered whether we could keep up.
01:26But we managed. We did it. And it was a wonderful production.
01:30And if we had the chance to do it again, we would.
01:35Claude Elboudou, known as Guhu, grew up with the Recreate Trials.
01:41As a child, he already took part in his performances.
01:44Today, he is a professional actor.
01:46The Recreate Trials employs many young people who take part in the festival,
01:51whether as volunteers or through their involvement in dance, theater, or technical production.
01:56For one week, the Recreate Trials, Alway, is transformed into a 550-meter-long urban stage.
02:04The idea of bringing the festival into the neighborhood is incredible, powerful.
02:09It makes art accessible to everyone.
02:11The Recreate Trials continues every day, from morning until the early hours, through Saturday, October 31st.
