00:00 Pandas can poop while they sleep. They spend a huge part of their day eating bamboo.
00:05 And because bamboo is difficult to digest, they have to consume enormous amounts to get enough energy.
00:10 That means waste keeps moving through their digestive system, even when they're taking a break.
00:14 So a panda can leave droppings behind without even getting up from its resting spot.
00:19 Despite being bears, pandas don't hibernate during winter.
00:23 Instead of sleeping through the cold months, they remain active throughout the year,
00:26 sometimes moving to lower elevations where temperatures are milder and bamboo is available.
00:32 A baby panda is tiny compared with its mother, weighing roughly 100 grams at birth.
00:37 It's pink, nearly hairless, and born with its eyes closed.
00:41 But how does a panda hold on to all that bamboo without a real thumb?
00:45 It has a special adaptation called a false thumb.
00:48 This isn't an actual finger, but an enlarged wrist bone that works alongside its other digits to help the panda
00:54 grip bamboo stalks.
00:55 It's one of the reasons pandas can handle their food with such surprising precision.
