00:00Shri D.K. Karve, he had himself married a widow and he furthered the cause of
00:05widow remarriage, the kind of insult and abuse heaped on him. I'm talking of a
00:13relatively recent event. These are not medieval personalities. Keshav Chandrasen,
00:18D.K. Karve, Raja Ram Mohan Roy, you remember their names. But we think that if
00:24we are following a certain culture and we have made no special effort in
00:29following that culture. That culture has just come to us by way of legacy. You
00:34are born in the Hindu family, so you have to celebrate Diwali. And you start
00:40thinking that somebody who celebrates holy and Diwali is automatically a Hindu. How
00:45is it possible? How many of you have read the Vedas? Okay, out of the four, any
00:51single one? Not one hand in an audience of over 200, I suppose. Just your surname cannot
01:01make you a Hindu. Being a Hindu is a tremendous thing. It requires some effort,
01:09some study, some sacrifice. Are you making that study? Are you making that sacrifice?
