00:00A horrific experience at the San Fernando General Hospital has caused a 55-year-old Williamsville man to seek justice
00:08for the death of his 49-year-old wife, Suniti Ramsume Paul.
00:14Ian Paul says he and their 20-year-old son, Ruben, who has cerebral palsy, witnessed Suniti suffocate during visiting
00:22hours on Saturday, October 17th.
00:26What we saw was a mask that was hanging down in the hospital there.
00:32And when Ruben saw how she was gasping for breath and her eyes were rolling over, I got confused with
00:38my son.
00:39He was like, Mommy, Mommy, Mommy, are you getting oxygen?
00:42She couldn't talk, so she was like this.
00:46And this is what we were seeing there.
00:48He believes improper supervision and or fault equipment led to her death.
00:53She took us in a room and we sat down and she said, I'm sorry to tell her that your
00:59wife just passed away.
01:00I said, Nurse, correct yourself.
01:02You should be saying, I'm sorry to tell you, you all just murdered and killed my wife due to suffocation
01:07and stifling because of no oxygen.
01:11Suniti's death was a culmination of events Mr. Paul believes could have been avoided.
01:16Her autopsy has listed breast cancer as the cause of death, but it's more complicated than that.
01:24Suniti survived early stage breast cancer in 2020 and has been in remission, living a normal life since.
01:32Numerous tests, Mr. Paul claims, repeatedly cleared her until bouts of sickness and weakness began in August.
01:40At no time we were thinking cancer because January, March and May, the 3CT, said that they told us she
01:47was clean, she was cancer free.
01:49What we learned after she went to the emergency room last month, around the middle of last month,
01:54what we learned that the cancer, the lymph nodes had spread throughout her chest, on her lungs,
02:00and there was also a 3-centimeter leisure in her brain.
02:05Augustus lung, they never informed us of the spread of the lymph nodes, which they saw in January, March and
02:13May.
02:14Documents show Suniti had stage 4 breast cancer at the time of her passing.
02:20Days before her death, she was administered chemotherapy drugs, and Mr. Paul says she regained strength and started improving.
02:28Out of an abundance of caution, when her heart rate and oxygen levels began fluctuating at home,
02:35they called an ambulance on Friday, October 16th.
02:39She was not struggling to breathe, or she was not in any pain,
02:42but we just thought because of those readings, she needed better care.
02:47When the ambulance came and the guy put her on 15 liters of oxygen,
02:52she immediately began to look better, and her heart rate stabilized.
03:00Also, when I left her in the hospital at 2 a.m. that Saturday morning,
03:05the doctor that spoke to me before I left, the doctor said,
03:08your wife is fine, her heart rate has stabilized, her oxygen level is up to 97, everything has stabilized.
03:14Mr. Paul believes that the lack of oxygen administered to his wife
03:19and the failure by doctors to inform them that the cancer returned months ago contributed to her death.
03:26He is calling for justice and says he is considering taking legal action against the SWRHA in this matter.
03:34The authority was contacted for comment on the issues, but did not provide a response up to news time.
