00:00If you want to get better at climbing the corporate ladder, here's one habit that the CEO of PwC used
00:06to go from intern to the C-suite.
00:08Paul Griggs has been at PwC for roughly 30 years, and now he leads its U.S. business.
00:13His career advice hasn't changed much from the time he started.
00:16He says that you should stay curious, even when you're not being prompted.
00:19Early in his career, Griggs worked with a partner who had a habit that he still remembers.
00:24In every meeting, he would bring a notebook with him.
00:26And on one side, he would write down notes, and the other side, he would write down questions.
00:30Anything he didn't understand would go on that second side so he could learn about it later.
00:34Griggs says that that kind of curiosity gives workers an edge.
00:38Say two people encounter the same problem at work.
00:41One of them waits to be told what they need to know, and the other person goes and does a
00:46little bit of research on their own.
00:47When the next conversation comes around, that person that did more research is a little bit quicker, they're able to
00:52contribute more.
00:53And that's where the compounding starts.
00:56Over time, that person starts to get more responsibility, and then they get more opportunities to move up quicker.
01:02So here's today's challenge.
01:03The next time you have a meeting to go to or a deck of slides to review, bring a notebook
01:08with you and write down all of the questions that you don't have an answer to.
01:11Then choose one of those and spend just 20 minutes researching it before you go into work the next day.
01:17Because getting ahead at work isn't just about doing what's asked of you.
01:20It's about being curious enough to learn what no one asked you to.
