00:00Is this the anatomy classroom?
00:02It is. And you are?
00:04Claire Randall. First year.
00:09Claire Randall Fraser is a very strong woman.
00:12Claire returns to the 20th century because she's pregnant.
00:16I was prepared to die on the battlefield at Culloden.
00:19No, me dead. It would have been dangerous for Claire to stay.
00:22Even though Claire is in love with Jamie,
00:24she just lost one child,
00:26so she went back to Frank to raise her daughter.
00:28Maybe this really can be a new beginning for all of us.
00:32Yes.
00:33After having lost the love of her life,
00:35she doesn't collapse and she doesn't sit around the house moping,
00:39which I think is such a testament to the strength of the woman that she is.
00:42And when Brianna is of a certain age,
00:45Claire decides to go back to school and decides to become a surgeon.
00:49It's just something I want to do.
00:51Well, there's no need.
00:52Frank's attitude about Claire going back to school.
00:55He does struggle with his position in the university
00:59and the fact that they clearly have such an unusual domestic set-up.
01:04Just last week, I read a column in The Globe that predicted...
01:08Professor Randall, you're going to have to pay closer attention
01:10to your wife's reading habits.
01:12She keeps reading The Globe.
01:14The next thing you know, she'll be trying to get women into Harvard Law.
01:19But Claire doesn't allow societal mores to dictate how her life should be.
01:24She trailblazes through them.
01:26Is this spot taken?
01:27No, it's all yours.
01:29Joe is a fellow medical student at Harvard.
01:32They're both great surgeons.
01:34They've both had to fight through a lot of prejudice.
01:38Dr. Randall.
01:39Two seconds.
01:40You don't have two seconds.
01:41Then one.
01:42Claire is a very strong character.
01:45She arrives in the future and is able to completely rebuild a new life for herself.
01:50Maybe we could move to the other lounge.
01:52This is 1968.
01:53We have as much right to sit here as any man.
01:56It doesn't matter if everyone else is telling her not to do something
01:59or that she can't do it.
02:01She just has full faith in herself that she can.
02:05You cannot stop me.
