00:01I'm Laurice and I'm here with my girl Channing and Rae.
00:04Today we're talking all about red lipsticks.
00:07We brought some of our favorites, we're going to be applying them and talking about some
00:10of our cult favorites.
00:11We just want to see if they're really going to work for all different skin types, so this
00:14should be fun.
00:15I really only go for red lipstick if it's like a big deal.
00:19I'm a very extra person, so I wear red lips literally with everything.
00:23I did a thing where I jumped way ahead when I was in high school, I used to wear way
00:26too
00:27much makeup, and I would do the full wing liner and a red lip every single day.
00:31It was so dedicated.
00:32It was a pain.
00:33My first encounter with red lipstick was my mom's.
00:36I went in that drawer and took her little wet and wild red lipstick and was like, okay, I
00:43think I can try this.
00:44My first red lipstick, I feel like, was MAC Ruby Woo because at the time it was so popular
00:51and I forget the actress that wore it.
00:53It might have been Gabrielle Union, but I was like, our skin tones are similar.
00:55Yeah.
00:56I know that I can pull this off.
00:57When I went into middle school, MAC was all the craze.
01:00I went straight into Macy's at my local mall, got my face done at the counter, and I took
01:05home the Russian red that day.
01:06I just found a new favorite.

01:09And it is Fenty Beauty.

01:11The Stunna lipstick.
01:12When I got it, I put it on, and my mom is not really a fan of red lipsticks, and

01:17was just like, that looks nice.

01:19And I was like, okay, is that a compliment?

01:23But I wore it all day.
01:25I didn't have to do any touch-ups.

01:28It does bleed a tiny bit, so I have to be mindful of what I'm wearing or where my hands

01:33But other than that, I think it's pretty perfect.

01:37So yeah, the dull applicator I think is really helpful, which is probably why I don't use
01:40a liner, because I can like, line my lips and then apply it.
01:43You shouldn't have to dip it back in to black sheet and just do it like that.

01:49It went everywhere in the bottom lip.
01:50That was amazing.

02:05Do you guys ever feel like you need to use a straw when you have a red lip on?

02:09I do, but not with this one, because then I feel like typically when you don't use a straw,
02:14you get that weird like middle.

02:20I hate the way those cups look though, because like I'm the person who like if I'm drinking
02:24a coffee, I'll never like, or like even a cup of tea, like a mug, I never put my lips
02:29in the same place, so it's just like lit.
02:31Yeah, just everywhere around the cup and it's just a mess.
02:34So I typically use a straw.

02:45So this is just my little NYX Extreme Lip Cream.
02:49I really only wear red lipstick if I'm like going to a carpet or like, I don't know,
02:54maybe I have a date or something crazy.
02:55It is a little darker, but when it does dry it, it's a little bit lighter.
03:00And this one I typically do have to like dip it back in.
03:03This one also bleeds.
03:05So, um, I never try to get it to the top of my lips either.

03:18I like it because it's kind of smooth.
03:20It does have a, a gloss like consistency.
03:23So it is like that little bit of stick, but it's never like tacky.
03:27I'm going to go with my everyday kind of look.

03:30So I'm going to choose my more pared down red.
03:35And I'm going to do the technique guys.
03:38If I don't use liner, the lipstick tends to like get down towards my chin.
03:42And I have like a weird red line there after a few hours.
03:47I do such a focus on my cupid's bow area to make it super pronounced.
03:52I do a dab.
03:53I do not do a swipe.
03:55I do a dab.
03:55I probably learned that from my like 1950s era grandmother.
03:59Did you ever do that trick where you put your finger in your mouth and you pull it out?

04:02I don't know it did.
04:03I just felt like I was sucking my thumb, but.

04:06It's supposed to, I guess, take the lipstick color off of the parts that would touch your teeth.

04:14It worked too, because there's some jump on mine.
04:17Yeah, I cut everything all over my thumb.

04:30Okay, now we're going to try a few cult red lipsticks and we're going to start with an
04:33option from the drugstore, Red Blonde's Fire and Ice, and we'll see how that looks on each
04:37of our skin tones.

04:42Meanwhile, I'm like, this doesn't sound bad.
04:45It feels really buttery, I will say.
04:47Yeah, it feels great.
04:48The texture is actually amazing.
04:49It does feel like lip balm.
04:50The formula is great.
04:51The color is just not for me.
04:53It's always so hard shopping for a lipstick, especially at a drugstore, unlike at a makeup
04:57counter, because there really isn't an option for samples.
05:00Yeah, it's just a bit too pink, I feel like, for me.
05:04For the next drugstore lipstick we're going to try, it's this Maybelline one.
05:08The color is Red Revival.
05:10Ooh, it's a really deep red.
05:12It's good, not great.

05:14I really like the color.
05:15I just think I'm a little caught off guard, but it has shiny it is.
05:19Wow, it's really luscious on your lips.

05:55It just feels like the red.

06:34We're going to stay on the MAC train and we're going to go with the second classic from the brand,

06:40It feels exactly how I used to apply it.
06:42I would over exaggerate my bow a little bit since it sort of has this rich color to it.

07:48shade Empirate, which I guess is the one to try from this luxury line.

09:11I think I would stick with my own just because the only difference between like all
09:17of the cult ones we tried and mine was the like wand application.
09:21I really, really like the liquid.
09:23If these formulas could magically become liquids, I would be like down to try because I really,
09:28really love Ruby Woo's color.
09:30But I don't know.
09:30I think I'm just a liquid lipstick kind of girl.
09:32Right now until I figure out how to like really swipe in one of the cult lipsticks that
09:36I tried and like, I'd stick with my own.
09:38The difference came down to me where like if I was rushing and I had to do something on the
09:42train,
09:43I could not do the lip paint, Rihanna's lip paint, because I need a mirror.
09:47So I think Ruby Woo is my lip.
09:50So we are done.
09:51Finally, we tried way too many lipsticks, but we tried some cult favorites.
09:56We tried some of our own.
09:57And at the end of the day, we have to say Max Ruby Woo is the universal lipstick, the universal
10:04red lipstick for all skin tones.
