Take three even-sized strands of hair from the front of your hairline, near your part. Begin french braiding, crossing the strand closest to the top of head over the middle strand and keep braiding. Drop the middle strand so that it dangles with the rest of your hair. Pick up a new, even-sized strand that will become your new top strand and braid again. Repeat these steps until the braid reaches the back of the head. Secure with a clip. Repeat on the opposite side of the head. Once both braids meet at the back of the head, combine the two with a short braid. Secure with a small rubber band. Pin with bobby-pins as necessary to keep braids flat.
