00:00I want people to love the skin that they have, the hair that they have, because there's nothing wrong with
00:04it.
00:24I want African-American girls to be proud of their roots, their ancestry,
00:28whether you are from Guyana, Haiti, different parts of the islands, different parts of Africa,
00:34right here in America.
00:37There's a lot to celebrate and we should embrace it.
00:49A lot of my work has focused on race, gender, specifically for black women
00:54because VizD was one of the first times where I was able to put into context and words my experience
01:00as a woman of color.
01:13I've recognized a problem that other people have chosen not to address and I'm doing it myself with the help
01:20of my community and my peers and I think that's awesome.
01:24So while it may be hard, I know that it has to get done and I'm going to do my
01:29best to make sure it's successful
01:30and that as many girls get these dolls as possible because we need them.
01:50I think it's important for young girls to know how to take care of their hair because I never knew
01:55how to take care of my hair.
01:56I actually didn't learn how to do my hair until I was about 20, 21 years old, which is a
02:02lot of time to spend not knowing what your natural hair looks like
02:05or whether or not you should be using coconut oil or jojoba oil or grapeseed oil or flexi rods and
02:11all this other stuff.
02:12And the reason that I didn't know how to do my hair was because I spent so much time thinking
02:16there was something wrong with it.
02:17And there wasn't. A lot of media just made me feel like that's what was going on.
02:32So the go-to hairstyle for Zoe will definitely have to be twists, braids, puffs, ponytails, like a big giant
02:39Afropuff on the top of her head,
02:41which looks really cute in my opinion. Yeah, you could experiment with it for sure.
02:56So sometimes when I'm having a really bad day, it's really great when my team forwards me a customer email
03:01where the first thing I see when I open it up is a girl beaming, holding her Zoe doll.
03:05And it's just like, I did that. I made that child happy.
03:09Alright, let me keep going.
03:10Bye.
03:11Bye.
03:13Bye.
03:14Bye.
03:17Bye.
