00:01Waitin' for the train. Waitin' for the train.
00:11Set in southwest England, you'll find Bath and Bristol.
00:14These two cities are just 15 minutes apart and they're quintessentially British.
00:18Today, I'm sharing my favorite things to do and see.
00:21Think deep history with the side of gin.
00:23Ha ha, yeah, ha ha. That's gin.
00:27I'm Anissa and this is 29 Hours of Bath and Bristol.
00:33You ready? Let's go.
00:37Bristol is the larger of the two cities and the perfect place to start my adventure.
00:42Welcome to the Brooks Guesthouse, a boutique bed and breakfast featuring a very unique experience.
00:48The hotel is situated right in the heart of Bristol, making it super easy to navigate.
00:52The rooftop of the hotel features what Brits call Retro Rockets.
00:56These chic, silver caravans are budget-friendly and perfect for one with a quirky twist.
01:05It's so cute! It's so cute!
01:10This is chic!
01:16Let's go check out Bristol!
01:23Bristol just passed the notion that they will be carbon neutral by 2030.
01:28They even have their own currency called the Bristol Pound.
01:31This local and colorful bill can be spent at almost 800 local businesses.
01:42Thank you!
01:44Bath and Bristol are just 13 miles apart and offer their own unique travel opportunities.
01:49Bristol, you're so adorable, but I'm really excited to go check out Bath.
01:52And my train, I think, is leaving soon.
01:55Let's go!
01:59It's easy to see both cities via the local train, and it only takes 15 minutes.
02:06The journey offers beautiful views of the rolling British countryside, and it's really easy to navigate.
02:15Thank you!
02:16Thanks!
02:17As soon as I hopped off the train and bath, I had to check out the architecture.
02:23There's something incredible about the deep history of the Roman baths.
02:28This well-preserved site was once used for public bathing, and was the spot to be seen and do some
02:33people watching.
02:35Today, the baths are purely for tourist viewing, but are well worth the visit for photo-op and a little
02:40bit of knowledge.
02:41I'd recommend getting there early to beat the crowds.
02:53After architecture, comes gin!
02:58After winding through some of the quaint bridges and streets of Bath, I figured I had earned a cocktail.
03:03Or two.
03:06Enter Bath Gin Distillery, located in the heart of Bath's city center.
03:10This spot is a bar on top and distillery on the bottom, brewing up their own custom in-house gin.
03:16In addition to booze, they create a unique blend of infusions.
03:21I took part in their gin experience, and was able to make my own bottle.
03:25It's over a 300-year-old building, and we built a gin bar in an old Georgian townhouse.
03:30So tell me a little bit about gin in the UK.
03:32Like, I heard gin is the liquor of choice here.
03:35Absolutely, yeah.
03:36Tell me a lot.
03:37Why?
03:37So gin was first really popularized in the 1700s in the UK.
03:41It started off as a really kind of nasty, really strong firewater in London.
03:46But then it started to become more and more artisanal, more and more kind of sexy, using a lot of
03:51exotic botanicals.
03:53And then around the early 2000s, loads of kind of really easy access stills and knowledge became available.
03:59And the small batch revolution started.
04:02In the last 15, 20 years, gin's really kicked off with loads of really exotic, kind of innovative flavours.
04:08Hence why we're here.
04:09You only really need juniper to be a gin.
04:12So we're going to be starting off with a few kind of blank liquids.
04:15Like, that's the canvas to be painted on.
04:17And you've got to remember this is straight booze.
04:23That's gin.
04:25Definitely is.
04:25So we're going to drip some flavour onto your canvas and then I'll blend it together and pop out a
04:30gin at the end.
04:31My whole body is warm.
04:32Yeah.
04:32That was not a lot of gin, but I feel it in my soul.
04:35Can I make it spicier?
04:36Indeed you can.
04:37Yeah.
04:38And we'll add some cardamom and some orange.
04:40I'm doing it.
04:44The gin was incredible and the bottle made for a perfect souvenir.
04:48The Anissa.
04:49I'm a Leo.
04:50What can I say?
04:57I headed back to Bristol for a night out.
05:05Nightlife in Bristol is known to bring out an eclectic mix of humans.
05:08And I was told to check out Old Market Assembly for a good time.
05:13This restaurant and performance venue is set in an old theatre space.
05:17And it's home to bands, DJs and musicians on any given weekend night.
05:28After a long day of touristing, there is nothing better than letting loose and dancing it out.
05:36I was lucky enough to meet an up and coming DJ, DJ Bach.
05:41I heard that you're part of a female DJ collective?
05:44Yeah. We're called Girl Crush. G-R-R-R-L Crush.
05:47Love that.
05:48What is nightlife like in Bristol?
05:50Really varied kind of music.
05:54Everyone's really friendly.
05:55It's just like there's always something happening.
05:57And like any night you go to, it's just always like popping.
06:00It's really good, yeah.
06:02So Old Market Assembly is truly inclusive of lots of like LGBT nights.
06:07And just has like quite a lot of good music and stuff.
06:10Yeah, they're coming out of it.
06:11It's also just like a lovely, beautiful venue.
06:14It's all beautiful.
06:14Yeah, and the sweet Spaniards.
06:36I don't know what I ate. It was good though.
06:44The food was amazing, not to mention the espresso martini.
07:01Bath and Bristol offer a unique look into two of England's smaller cities.
07:06They're so close, they're practically cousins and they're super easy to get around.
07:11Check them out for the beautiful architecture, ample history and one of a kind nightlife.
07:20Now get out there and go find out for yourself.
07:23See ya!
