00:00Forget everything you know about bees.
00:02They're not just pests.
00:04They're not cartoon characters.
00:06Bees are a major cornerstone of our agricultural ecosystem,
00:10responsible for pollinating $15 billion worth of crops annually.
00:14That's 25% of the food eaten in the United States.
00:18And they're dying, fast.
00:21The USDA just reported 42% losses in honeybee colonies.
00:25That's the second highest annual loss on record.
00:28So what the f*** is happening to them?
00:30We're not sure.
00:32Research attributes colony collapse to many things.
00:34Pesticides, parasites, disease, poor nutrition, and climate change.
00:38When all is not well in our beehives, it's not just honey that's in jeopardy.
00:43Even as colonies collapse, demand for crop pollination is as high as ever.
00:48That means rising prices for you.
00:51See, our agricultural ecosystem is like a house of cards.
00:54One single card might not seem important until you remove it.
00:59Say it.
00:59Let's leave it.
00:59Ladies, follow this.
00:59Two other things have changed.
