00:00Minister of Homeland Security Roger Alexander says efforts are underway to strengthen the
00:05investigative capabilities of the Trinidad and Tobago Police Service, particularly in solving
00:10murders. He says the country's homicide teams are receiving support, including efforts to secure
00:16international assistance to improve investigative skills. He was speaking on TTT's FOCUS program.
00:23The home invasion team is doing well. We have a homicide team in Trinidad and Tobago, Region
00:311, Region 2, Region 3, led by a senior superintendent. And I must give them the praises for what
00:41they would have done. Investigations in Trinidad and Tobago, they were left for many years doing
00:46just the basic investigations into murders. But now we are trying to get whatever international
00:55help, foreign, that we can give to them to help them improve their investigative skills
01:02that would result in more convictions for law enforcement and for the country with respect
01:07to murders. The minister also raised the concerns about accused persons being granted bail while
01:13facing serious criminal allegations. He also questioned how long repeat offenders should
01:18remain on bail while continuing to face allegations of serious criminal activity.
01:23Some persons are committing murders and now they are out on bail and all that. It's not
01:27doing very well for the victims of crime or a country in a whole. There are some persons
01:33walking around here with 20 and 30 offences and still on bail. When does it end? How much
01:43persons you have to rob? How much persons you have to kill? How much persons you have to
01:48stop? How much cars you have to steal? How much home invasion you have to do before someone
01:53says you know, enough is enough. Sharla Kisto, TV6 News.
