00:01With a community meeting in Mannam cancelled by Quantum DC late on Friday, frustrated community
00:08members decided to hold their own.
00:11And we aren't going anywhere.
00:14Speakers slamming the plan for a large-scale data centre at Tunkillo in the Adelaide Hills,
00:2040 kilometres directly east of Adelaide.
00:23We don't want the data centre.
00:24We will fight it using every legal means that we have possible.
00:28Citing security and safety concerns and the potential size of the crowd, the company said
00:33it had to postpone the event, the second session it's cancelled this week.
00:38Quantum DC is proposing to begin building the data centre in 2028, along with a supporting
00:43gas power plant with renewable energy to be supplied off-site.
00:48The development would take up a 120 hectare area, that's about a third of the size of
00:54the Adelaide CBD.
00:54One of the biggest data centres in the world.
00:58It's going to guzzle a huge amount of energy and it's going to consume a huge amount of
01:03water.
01:03Tunkillo locals like Morris Collins are hoping to convince the SA government to oppose the
01:09project.
01:09Whether we can or whether the government will just override anything that's done, we're
01:15yet to find out.
01:16We are only going to embrace AI data centres if it is in the interest of South Australia.
01:22With 600 jobs to be created, the company says construction would deliver a shot in the arm
01:28for regional South Australia.
01:30Quantum DC says it's committed to hearing a full range of views and will hold three public
01:36sessions in three weeks' time in Mannam.
01:39But if the mood at today's protest meeting is anything to go by, winning over this community
01:44will be far from easy.
01:46No data centres!
