00:00We now live in a world where the Iranian regime actively and openly targets commercial vessels for attack.
00:07Not naval vessels. We're not talking about naval vessels. We're not talking about submarines.
00:11We are talking about them saying, here's a commercial vessel with cargo, oil, natural gas, and we are going to
00:17try to sink it.
00:19They are openly attacking vessels as a tool of statecraft.
00:23You guys know who I am. You wouldn't be here if you didn't know who I was, so thank you.
00:26Well, I want to thank the city of Atlanta. They did a great job hosting us this week.
00:30It's one of America's great business and innovative hubs, and it's been an ideal location for us to not just
00:36showcase our country,
00:37but to focus on critical economic policy issues that are facing the world today.
00:41Under President Trump's leadership, the United States has established a clear mission for the G20 to get back to basics
00:46and to focus on the core purpose for why this forum was created in the first place.
00:52So this week in Atlanta, at the foreign minister's level, we executed on that directive.
00:57We focused on core economic, energy, technology, and supply chain challenges,
01:02and we addressed practical solutions and real outcomes to benefit the citizens,
01:06not just of the countries represented here today, but of the world.
01:09We have a lot of complex interconnected problems in the world right now that impact our countries collectively,
01:14and we have to work together to find solutions to those problems.
01:17That's why it's important to get this group together, to have a serious, focused meeting,
01:22and I'm happy to say that this week we covered a lot of ground,
01:25and you'll find everything we talked about in my chair statement that will be coming out if it hasn't come
01:30out already.
01:31One of the main issues we addressed, of course, was freedom of navigation.
01:34Safe passage of vessels in international waters is vital to the livelihood of the world, and we see the attacks,
01:40and that's what they are.
01:41Let me understand, and I underscored this in my comments.
01:43I'll underscore it with you now.
01:45We now live in a world where the Iranian regime actively and openly targets commercial vessels for attack.
01:52Not naval vessels.
01:53We're not talking about naval vessels.
01:54We're not talking about submarines.
01:56We are talking about them saying,
01:57here's a commercial vessel with cargo, oil, natural gas, and we are going to try to sink it.
02:04They are openly attacking vessels as a tool of statecraft.
02:09That's the world we live in,
02:10and I think Central Command in the United States has done a phenomenal job of protecting this shipping,
02:14and today the amount of fuel getting through there is comparable with what was coming out before the conflict,
02:20but nonetheless we've had to defend these ships from drones and missiles almost every single night.
02:25And we're also seeing attacks not just in the Straits now but also in the Bab al-Mandeb and the
02:30hostile coercion,
02:31of course, that we see maybe not as kinetic but certainly still concerning in the South China Sea,
02:36in the Strait of Taiwan, and elsewhere that also puts economies in danger.
02:40One of the most severe consequences to sea lanes being under attack or under coercion is the rise of food
02:45security problems.
02:47When energy and fertilizer and agricultural products can't reach their destinations,
02:52it threatens the most vital necessity for each and every one of our nations and for all the nations of
02:56the world.
02:57And I'm grateful that this group was able to have purposeful meetings on this subject,
03:01but obviously in that we are aligned, at least in our goal, in our understanding that it's a serious problem,
03:07although I cannot say we are aligned on how to solve it.
03:10My closing comments on critical minerals really could have applied to this as well,
03:14and that is that we all agree there's a problem,
03:17but obviously there's work to be done to find agreement collectively on solutions.
03:22I'm also glad that on the sidelines of this G20 gathering,
03:25we were able to get the Quad group together again and discuss a myriad of topics, a myriad of issues.
03:31The Quad is something we've invested a lot of time in.
03:33I think this year alone we've met four or five times.
03:36It was my first meeting as Secretary of State when I took over in January of 2025,
03:44and we're going to continue to work in that forum as it's gone from a place where we just meet
03:48and talk about problems
03:49to a place where we identify areas to work together on and are actually being able to act on that.
03:55And hopefully we'll be announcing very soon, if we haven't already,
03:58that we'll have a Quad leaders meeting in Manila in the, I guess, today's the 31st, next month.
04:06So these are the issues that are important to the United States and to all the countries here today.
04:10We have a great relationship with all the members of the Quad,
04:13and our partnership enables us to address these challenges in an effective, unified way that benefits the shared national interests
04:20of our respective countries.
04:22I also had great bilateral meetings.
04:24For example, we had a trilateral meeting with Japan and South Korea.
04:28We've done that a number of times as well.
04:30We signed a memorandum of cooperation on transnational Arctic-Pacific partnership with them,
04:35and together we'll ensure that the Arctic remains a region free of dominion or coercion
04:39and that it instead remains a place of peaceful relations and commerce.
04:43We're grateful for all of the invited participants who came to Atlanta here this week.
04:47I want to recognize the Polish delegation in particular.
04:50Poland as a country is making great strides economically as well as in the security domain
04:55because they put their national interests and their citizens first.
04:58They are stronger.
04:59They are more robust as a nation.
05:01And America, as an ally and a partner of Poland, therefore, is stronger as well.
05:05President Trump believes very strongly that Poland deserves a seat at this table of global leaders,
05:10and we very much hope to see them and other strong nations on the rise invited back next year.
05:15As we prepare for the summit in Doral, which is coming up now in December,
05:19I want to give my thanks and praise to my fellow Cabinet members
05:22who have led extremely successful ministerials across the country leading up to this one.
05:27The U.S. presidency of the G20 has been one of the many highlights of America's 250th birthday celebration.
05:35We've successfully used this platform to build the global initiatives that truly benefit the American people,
05:40which is ultimately our primary obligation.
05:41So we are looking forward to another great G20 meeting that will be led by President Trump in Florida in
05:47December,
05:47and that will be a capstone to this year of American leadership.
