The Common Nighthawk is a fascinating bird known for its spectacular evening flights and unique hunting skills. Despite its name, it is not a true hawk! It has beautifully mottled brown, gray, and black feathers, long pointed wings, and distinctive white patches that flash during flight. It catches flying insects while swooping and gliding through the sky, especially at dusk and during the night.

One of its most amazing features is its dramatic diving display, which can produce a deep booming sound as air passes through its wing feathers. Found across much of North America, this incredible bird is a true master of aerial insect hunting!
