00:00Do you like the movie Inception, the principle of Russian dolls?
00:03Then perhaps you will enjoy The King of Thorns.
00:06But I say perhaps, because where Nolan's film offers us a journey
00:10that we manage to follow step by step, not necessarily during,
00:13but which one can reconstruct without too much difficulty after watching it,
00:16This animated film, in my opinion, tried to do too much.
00:20and shamelessly abandons the viewer along the way.
00:22King of Thorn, released in 2010, is a film based on the manga of the same name by Yuji Iwara.
00:27which blends action, horror, survival, and headaches,
00:31both for some of the characters and for those who will watch this production.
00:34The story takes place in 2015, when an epidemic spreads throughout the world.
00:38This one randomly turns people to stone.
00:41This disease will aptly be named Medusa.
00:43To enable humanity to survive this rapidly spreading pandemic
00:47and for which no antidote exists,
00:50A pharmaceutical company called Venus Gate is putting a plan into action.
00:53Venus Gate is convening in northern Scotland,
00:55within a castle housing a scientific complex,
00:58people from all over the world came to be cryogenically frozen there.
01:01The plan is ultimately to have time to develop an antidote.
01:05if by chance Medusa were to eradicate the world's population.
01:08The complex, managed by an artificial system, keeps a watchful eye on its sleeping occupants.
01:13Unfortunately for those who are there, nothing will go as planned.
01:16The place conducive to dreams, transforming into a very real nightmare.
01:20To be perfectly frank, this film is not a success in my opinion.
01:23There are some things that work and others that, in my opinion, are failures.
01:27First, the story of the pandemic, the pharmaceutical company,
01:30cryogenics, the characters, the scientific complex,
01:34That all suits me.
01:35Everything fits together quite well, logically, no problems.
01:37No problems during the first two-thirds of the film,
01:40Because afterwards it goes far afield.
01:42And honestly, this is going too far.
01:43As I said at the very beginning,
01:45We have a false semblance of Inception based on dreams and realities that become confused.
01:49And even if we manage to follow it at first, it quickly becomes too much, too exaggerated.
01:53And clearly, it's becoming tedious to follow.
01:56I think it will have been beneficial to shorten it.
01:58limit the steps that lead to the conclusion.
02:00Because the way it's presented quickly makes everything unintelligible while watching.
02:05Secondly, the graphic part.
02:06The initial premise is a classic visual,
02:09like a lot of productions from the 2010s,
02:11which blends 2D and 3D,
02:13where everything is more or less smooth,
02:14with a style that disregards finesse and detail.
02:17The visuals aren't great, but they do the job.
02:19However, from the moment they started using 3D
02:22to model and texture the characters,
02:25That's where it becomes hideous.
02:26And we don't know why.
02:27One time we use the digital pen,
02:30One time we use polygons.
02:32Frankly, we had to make a final decision.
02:34Either we use 3D on the characters, or we don't.
02:37This is nonsense.
02:38And during the animation, it's not smooth.
02:40So the king of brambles,
02:41I don't know about the manga.
02:43but its film adaptation has too many shortcomings.
02:46The first two-thirds were held,
02:48The last third completely ruined everything.
02:50in addition to inconsistent technical choices.
02:51If you like the survival, action, and horror genres,
02:54in a science fiction setting,
02:55One piece of advice: take notes.
02:57That was Bleach, see you next time, bye!
