00:00Welcome to Ms. Mojo, and to celebrate its 25th anniversary, we'll be counting down our picks for the 10 funniest
00:06moments from the Monsters, Inc. franchise,
00:13including the original movie, the prequel, and the TV series.
00:1710. Welcome to the Himalayas
00:20Monsters, Inc.
00:22Getting banished to a frozen wasteland should be a terrifying twist in the story.
00:26Instead, it introduces one of Pixar's greatest cameo characters.
00:31Upon arriving in the freezing blizzard, Mike and Sully are greeted by the abominable snowman, voiced delightfully by studio lucky
00:39charm John Ratzenberger.
00:41Abominable! Can you believe that? Do I look abominable to you?
00:46Why can't they call me the adorable snowman or the agreeable snowman for crying out loud?
00:51Flipping the creepy myth on its head, this yeti is less of a bloodthirsty monster and more of a wildly
00:57hospitable suburban dad who is just thrilled to finally have some company.
01:01He warmly offers the shivering exiles a batch of freshly made snow cones, quickly following up with the iconic reassurance
01:09that it's lemon and not, you know.
01:12No, no, no, don't worry. It's lemon.
01:14His aggressively friendly chatter against the bleak, icy backdrop is a master class in comedic contrast.
01:20Great. So now the truth comes out, doesn't it?
01:25Oh, would you look at that? We're out of snow cones. Let me just go outside and make some more.
01:32Number 9. Mike's Comedy Classes, Monsters at Work.
01:36Everything's changing.
01:37Laugh power instead of scare power. Me and Mike in charge. And I guess they're going to have to change
01:42the old MU school of scaring to the College of Comedy.
01:46Transitioning a massive corporate infrastructure from harvesting screams to generating giggles is no small feat.
01:53And who better to lead the charge than our favorite one-eyed monster?
01:57In the Disney Plus spinoff series, Mike takes on the huge task of teaching old school scarers the delicate art
02:05of stand-up comedy.
02:06So the first rule of dealing with hecklers, ignore them.
02:09Yeah, you know, I wonder if that works with boring teachers.
02:11Ha ha ha ha ha. Very funny, very funny, very funny.
02:14Well, that makes one of us.
02:16Well, that's rich coming from you, Gary. I have forgotten more about comedy than you'll ever know.
02:20Yeah, Mike, you certainly have forgotten a lot about comedy.
02:24Watching him desperately try to explain basic punchlines to literal-minded behemoths is an absolute riot.
02:30The sheer frustration radiating from Mike as his students completely miss the premise of a knock-knock joke perfectly captures
02:38the struggles of middle management.
02:40It's a brilliant evolution of the franchise's lore, proving that while screams are energy efficient, watching scary monsters bomb on
02:48stage is pure electric comedy.
02:50This is a classic setup. It's knock-knock. Who's there?
02:53You're asking me to lie to kids.
02:54He's right. Knocking on a fake door, misrepresenting yourself, it's all very suspect.
02:59I don't like lying to kids.
03:00Yeah.
03:00Number 8. Art's Dark Past. Monsters University.
03:05Hey, hey, hey! I'm Art, New Age Philosophy major. Excited to live with you and laugh with you and cry
03:13with you.
03:13When it comes to breakout prequel stars, the university campus delivered a masterpiece in the form of art.
03:20Voiced to perfection by Charlie Day, this fuzzy U-shaped enigma is an absolute wild card who steals every scene
03:28he waddles into.
03:29But what makes Art so hilariously memorable isn't just his weirdly flexible physical comedy, but his unhinged, out-of-context
03:37one-liners hinting at a troubled history.
03:39Guys, one slip-up on the next event and we're goners. So for this to work, I'm gonna need you
03:45to take every instinct you have and bury it deep, deep down.
03:49Done.
03:49The pinnacle of his bizarre charm happens during a stealth mission when the monster's ink security suddenly shows up.
03:56Without skipping a beat, Art instantly drops his friends and bolts into the darkness, screaming that he can't go back
04:02to jail.
04:03It's a totally unexpected laugh-out-loud moment that leaves you wanting an entire spin-off about his bizarre background.

04:28animation history.
04:29May the best monster win.
04:31Number 7. The Toxicity Challenge. Monsters University.
04:36Human children are toxic! And anything they touch is toxic!
04:42We don't have any human toys, but thanks to MU's biology department, we found a close second!
04:50The stinging Glargen!
04:53Physical comedy is a staple of Pixar animation, but the scare games elevate into a beautiful art form.
05:00During the Toxicity Challenge, the Uzma Kappa fraternity must navigate an underground sewer tunnel without touching the glowing toxic urchins.
05:09Naturally, things go spectacularly wrong for Mike and Sully.
05:20Instead of navigating gracefully, the feuding duo fails with flying colors, triggering a cascade of glowing spikes as they try
05:28to race each other through the obstacle course.
05:30The aftermath is pure slapstick perfection.
05:34We are treated to the glorious sight of our heroes staggering out of the tunnel with swollen, balloon-like faces
05:40and grossly inflated limbs that let out high-pitched squeaks with every step.
05:45It's impossible not to laugh at their puffed-up misery as they waddle toward the finish line.
05:50Take that, Wazowski!
05:51Are you delineous? I beat you!
05:53Get your eye checked!
05:54Number 6. The Trash Compactor Misunderstanding. Monsters, Inc.
05:59Boom!
06:01Hey, you!
06:02Oh!
06:03He's the one.
06:04The one from the commercial.
06:06Affirmative.
06:06That's him.
06:07Can we get an autograph?
06:08Dramatic irony rarely gets funnier than this masterpiece of misunderstanding.
06:13Believing that Boo has slipped down the garbage chute, Sully rushes to the waste management room,
06:18only to watch in paralyzed horror as a massive trash compactor smashes the garbage into a tiny cube.
06:28Without any dialogue, the animation tells the entire hilarious story through Sully's facial expressions.
06:35His increasingly petrified reactions are cinematic gold, as are his repeated fainting spells.
06:41The punchline, of course, is that the audience knows the adorable toddler is completely fine and happily waddling around elsewhere,
06:49making the big blue giant's emotional breakdown an absolute riot to watch.
06:54Sol, that's a cube of garbage.
06:58I can still hear her little voice.
07:03Hey, I can hear it, too.
07:05How many kids you got in it?
07:07Number 5, Sushi Restaurant Chaos, Monsters, Inc.
07:11Hey, guys.
07:11What a coincidence, running into you.
07:13I'm just gonna order something to go.
07:15Taking your girlfriend out for a romantic birthday dinner at Harryhausen's is stressful enough without your best friend smuggling a
07:22toxic human child into the dining room.
07:25When Boo inevitably escapes from Sully's gym bag, the monster's reaction is nothing short of chaotic.
07:31On three, one, two, three.
07:40To them, a giggling toddler is basically a live biological weapon.
07:45The resulting panic is orchestrated chaos at its finest.
07:49Diners dive under tables, police helicopters circle overhead, and the entire high-end sushi joint dissolves into a riot of
07:57scrambling claws and tentacles.
07:59The apocalyptic scenario remains one of the franchise's best and most unforgettable visual gags.
08:05Well, a kid flew right over me and blasted a car with its laser vision.
08:09I tried to run from it, but it picked me up with its mind powers and shook me like a
08:14doll.
08:14It's true! I saw the whole thing!
08:16Number 4. Roz is always watching, Monsters Inc.
08:21Good morning Roz, my succulent little garden snail, and who would we be scaring today?
08:26Wazowski, you didn't file your paperwork last night.
08:30Every workplace has that one bureaucrat who makes everyone's life just a little more difficult.
08:36And at Monsters Inc., that monster is Roz.
08:39This cardigan-wearing dispatcher is the ultimate comedic foil to Mike's frantic high-strung energy.
08:45With a painfully slow drawl and an eternally unimpressed glare, she refuses to let Mike slide on his paperwork.
08:53I'm watching you, Wazowski. Always watching.
08:59Whew, she's nuts.
09:01Her deadpan, gravely delivery and complete devotion to the work became an instant cultural touchstone.
09:08Roz doesn't need to yell or panic to command a room.
09:11Her slow shutter blinks and monotonous threats are enough to strike fear into the hearts of even the world's top
09:18scarers.
09:19She turns mundane office administration into something even scarier than Screaming Blue Giants.
09:25Ooh, the love boat is about to set sail.
09:28Mm-mm.
09:29Cause I gotta tell ya, buddy, that face of hers, it just makes my heart go...
09:33Hello, Wazowski. Fun-filled evening planned for tonight?
09:37Number three. Put that thing back where it came from, or so help me.
09:42Monsters, Inc.
09:43You're not supposed to name it.
09:44Once you name it, you start getting attached to it.
09:47Now put that thing back where it came from, or so help me!
09:51Some people freeze when backed into a corner.
09:54Mike choreographs a musical.
09:56Caught red-handed with a human child on the scare floor, Mike desperately covers their tracks by wildly claiming that
10:03he and Sully are just rehearsing a new company play.
10:07What follows is the most brilliantly awkward performance ever committed to animation.
10:12Oh, hi! We're rehearsing a scene for the upcoming company play called Put That Thing Back Where It Came From,
10:19or so help me!
10:21Mike aggressively sings a made-up, off-key jingle while forcing a bewildered Sully into becoming a reluctant backup dancer.
10:28Put that thing back where it came from, or so help me! So help me! So help me! And cut!
10:33The intense jazz hands, the desperate stalling, and the sheer audacity of the lie elevate this scene to legendary status.
10:41It's a flawless storm of vocal delivery and physical comedy.
10:45Number 2. Mike's Bad Luck, Monsters, Inc.
10:49Do you have 119? Do I see 120? Oh, I don't believe it!
10:54I'm not even breaking a sweat!
10:56Not you! Look! The new commercial's on!
10:59Some running gags get old, but this one gets better every single time it happens.
11:04Early in the film, Mike is ecstatic about starring in a TV commercial.
11:09When it finally airs, the company logo completely obscures his entire body.
11:14Both we and Sully expect Mike to be heartbroken, but the movie brilliantly subverts our beliefs, and Mike proves beyond
11:21excited.
11:21I can't believe it. Oh, Mike.
11:24I was on TV! Ah, did you see me? I'm a natural!
11:29He later lands himself on the cover of a major magazine, only to have his face perfectly blocked by the
11:35barcode.
11:35Once again, he cannot care less. He's just excited to be there.
11:40It's a fantastic example of subversion, repetition, and brilliant voice acting. Just listen to that joy.
11:46I don't believe it.
11:49Google, I'm here.
11:51I'm on the cover of a magazine!
11:54Ow!
12:01Before we continue, check out this single from Sound Mojo's Adia, Songs from Iran,
12:06reimagining Persian melodies as modern rock, metal, and pop songs.
12:11Check out the full track and album below.
12:13Where are you, my love zone here? Say the word and I'll appear.
12:18I wrote this song just for you, to tell you what I always knew.
12:28Number 1. The 2319 Incident. Monsters, Inc.
12:32How is Georgie doing?
12:33He's doing great! I love working with that big guy!
12:37Keep the doors coming, Charlie. I'm on a roll today.
12:39There is perhaps no greater overreaction than the legendary 2319 Incident.
12:45Poor George Sanderson is feeling great generating the scares,
12:49but a tiny child sock is found stuck to his back fur.
12:53His assistant spots the rogue garment, and it results in pure pandemonium.
12:57The screaming alarm summons the child detection agency, who burst through the ceiling like an elite SWAT team.
13:04And they just don't remove the sock.
13:07They detonate it in a controlled explosion, forcibly shave George until he is bald,
13:12and subject him to the equivalent of a chemical bath.
13:15The sheer overkill applied to a harmless piece of laundry is hysterically funny,
13:19but it also helps establish the monster's deeply held fear of human children,
13:25humor, and smart exposition.
13:27What's not to like?
