00:00Mike, one week until the trade deadline.
00:02What do you think of for the Bills for the deadline?
00:04Their defense has been struggling a lot.
00:07Last week they did great.
00:08They played a third-string quarterback for a lot of it.
00:10Do you feel like it's easy to just fix the defense?
00:13We've been talking a lot about maybe the defense is too far gone to solve.
00:18You just go all gas, no brakes, and try to outscore everybody.
00:22Well, I mean, this is the time of year.
00:23We learned this last week.
00:24We should have already known, but I think it's now crystal clear.
00:27These teams are calling each other constantly.
00:31The teams that are in position to try to add veteran help to go all in,
00:34they're going to be making the calls to see what's out there and what it would take.
00:37And the teams that are viewed as not contenders are going to be getting the calls.
00:42Now, will they answer?
00:43Will they not?
00:44Will they refuse to talk about trading a guy until all of a sudden they trade Jeffrey Simmons to the
00:49Bears?
00:49I don't know, but I think the Bills should be looking at all opportunities at any position
00:54where they think they can upgrade if they're willing.
00:57And in the past, we've seen resistance to do this.
01:00Resistance to go all in during the season.
01:02I remember in 2021, when Vaughn Miller was available, when Odo Beckham Jr. was available,
01:08the Rams went out and got them both.
01:10And you could argue that the presence of both of those guys was integral to the Rams winning the Super
01:16Bowl that year.
01:17And the Bills didn't pursue either of them.
01:19The Bills signed Vaughn Miller after the season.
01:21If they'd have made the move for him during the season, who knows what it might have brought about.
01:25So it's about being strategic.
01:27It's about being aggressive.
01:28It's about not being satisfied.
01:32But you don't want to mortgage your future and wreck your program by giving up a lot to get a
01:40guy.
01:40And the Bears are going to be a great litmus test for that.
01:42Look at what Jeffrey Simmons did for them last night.
01:44Great.
01:45But man, you give up two first round draft picks to get him.
01:47Guys who become the lifeblood of your future.
01:50How much longer is Simmons going to be there?
01:52It's a calculated risk to try to go all in right now and try to grab the brass ring this
01:58year.
01:59And we'll see if the Bills are willing to make that move.
02:02Hey, there's some offensive weapons that may be available.
02:04You add another receiver to that mix who can get it done.
02:06If you can get him for a reasonable price and you can get him up to speed, that's going to
02:10help the Bills as well.
02:11So I'd probably bet against just based on Brandon Bean's history.
02:15But I think you at least have to be doing your homework to see what's out there.
02:19For receivers that are available, what names might you have at the top of your list?
02:22I mean, Brian Thomas Jr.'s name gets mentioned here and there.
02:27Josh Downs, of course, because the Colts are selling off parts.
02:30Have any other names that might intrigue a team or two out there?
02:33I'd call about George Pickens in Dallas.
02:36I'd make the phone call.
02:37We see the smoke.
02:38We see the frustration.
02:41If they're not going to tag him again next year and he's going to walk away as a free agent
02:45and then he'll provide them potentially with a solid compensatory draft pick in 2028,
02:51you can do a deal now and you can get something for him in 2027.
