Voting has commenced in the United States midterm elections, presenting a crucial test for Donald Trump's presidency with control of both the House of Representatives and the Senate at stake. The elections follow early morning US air strikes in Iran amid ongoing conflict in West Asia. Poll trends and internal Republican party assessments suggest that the Democrats could secure an advantage in both chambers. Heightened campaigning by Donald Trump in traditionally conservative states like Texas, Alaska, North Carolina, and South Carolina indicates tight races, particularly in the Senate.

00:00But the big story that we are breaking at the moment, there's the big U.S. midterm test for Donald
00:05Trump in the United States.
00:07Remember the election the world is watching at the moment.
00:11Battle is on for the U.S. House and the Senate and it's an election that could change the course
00:17of Donald Trump's presidency.
00:19Remember the U.S. bombed Iran this morning just hours before those midterm polls began
00:25and latest predictions are giving the Democrats an upper hand in both the houses which could significantly reduce Donald Trump's
00:33room for maneuver
00:34and that could affect India and the world and also possibly the course of the war in West Asia.
00:41I want to go to our man in Washington, D.C., Rohit Sharma, who tracks every move there.
00:46Rohit, voting has begun. Are most exit polls now predicting that the Democrats could win both houses?
00:54That's the sense, Rajdeep, across all the polls, including some internal polling of the Republicans
01:01who have said that there's a good chance that not only will they lose the House but also the Senate.
01:07And that was one of the reasons why President Donald Trump had been campaigning really hard in those red states
01:12of Texas
01:13and Alaska and North Carolina and South Carolina, some safe Senate seats that nobody would have imagined six months ago
01:19that the President would have to campaign in.
01:21So that also tells you that at the end of the day, you know, tonight, we'll possibly know what happens
01:27in the House.
01:28But the Senate races could be too close to call, Rajdeep.
01:31But it looks like it's heading that way, that President Trump will have to work with Democratic leaders
01:35not only in the House but also in the Senate.
01:42Okay, Rohit, we'll come back to you for more details.
01:44Remember, counting will begin early morning in India.
01:48All of this, of course, against the backdrop of the war in West Asia.
01:53That's why the world is on the edge.
