00:26This is Tim Wasper from Fast Track on CERC TV.
00:32As dark as some of her intentions are, there's a lot of hope in what she does.
00:38Can you talk about finding that sort of core of her?
00:42Yes, I think what is good here is that, okay, she has superpowers, but what she does with them, right?
00:51It's her decision to make this world a bit better place, to use them for good.
00:59Even though it's a world where barely nothing happens, everything that happens happens during the night, but it's these small
01:08steps for making the world a bit better place.
01:13This hope, yes, it gave me a lot.
01:16I immediately find it in the script when I read it.
01:22Did you have any questions about her that needed to be?
01:25Yes, a lot.
01:26Yes, I had a lot of questions of her background, her family, her traumas, why she liked that and everything.
01:35But we decided to start with the world that is around them, these characters, very cold, boring, loneliness was something
01:46that clicked immediately with me.
01:51And yes, her, how determined she is, I would like to have a bit more of that as Lara.
01:59But yes, I fell in love with her very quickly.
02:02And now when I saw the movie, I'm like, wow, she's really cool.
02:20Well, I needed scenes to be brutal so that we really believe that she's capable of doing something bad or
02:28dangerous or serious.
02:30And I, as a script writer, I really thought about her background a lot.
02:37And I did have some theories around it.
02:40But in the end, I intentionally left it all out because whenever I learned something about her, she was less
02:49interesting to me.
02:50So I really wanted her to be as mysterious as possible.
02:55Could you talk about the difference between acceptance and belief?
03:01Oh, yeah.
03:03Because we, unlike Lara, I didn't care about Rogue's background.
03:08I'm not that kind of an actor.
03:13I don't care about that.
03:15Because if it's not in the movie, who cares?
03:18But you can project your own image.
03:21But, so, belief, yeah.
03:25It's just, I guess that for Rogue, it comes from the notion of boredom.
03:30Like, we were discussing boredom a lot.
03:32And this, and when someone interesting steps into his life and...
03:40He just wants to be needed.
03:42Yeah, yeah.
03:42And it flips the round.
03:45He's just like, yeah, I'm going to believe everything that she says and does, just because I'm having so much
03:51fun doing it.
03:52Like he says in the movie, I'm having fun.
03:54I don't have fun often.
04:03Yeah, he has to make a very important decision that takes it a certain way.
04:11Yeah.
04:11You know, and that's the crux of the whole thing.
04:14Maybe it happened naturally, yes, when we had rehearsals.
04:18Because it's been like two years since we shot the movie.
04:21And most of the shooting of the movie, because we did 20 nights, night shifts, like it was almost like
04:29a trance.
04:30So there was a scene where they sit by his bed and then the camera goes far behind them.
04:39And at that point, because we shot for so many nights after that, they are kind of romantically involved, but
04:51not really romantic as we know it.
04:54And there was love between them, but still not as we are used to it.
05:01More like an admiration.
05:05I saw more siblings at times.
05:07Yeah.
05:08But the younger one overtakes the, it's all in perception and perspective.
05:15And there was a, yeah, in that scene, we did one take where I told them to, they had like
05:24hands like this next to each other.
05:26And then I told them, let's do one take where you maybe touch one another.
05:31But it didn't work.
05:34Yeah.
05:34Yeah, that we went too far with that, but still, I tried because I was seeing them for so long,
05:44being in this weird relationship.
05:47And when we tried that, the touching between each other, it didn't work.
05:55What is it?
05:56I thought I was holding the phone and then I was holding the knife.
06:01Okay.
06:09She's a black and white character in a way that she looks at the world really in a simple way.
06:16Something, someone is bad, that person has to die.
06:21Or good or evil.
06:22Yeah.
06:22Yeah.
06:23And that's, that's her perspective, which is not so good, actually.
06:30Yeah.
06:30It's, it's really extremist in a way.
06:32Extremist.
06:32When it comes to, to rock, he's, uh, he's much more open.
06:37And that's why he changes this much in the film, because he learns from her.
06:42He learns things.
06:43He's in the gray.
06:45Yeah.
06:46But he also knows that what she's doing also isn't really that good.
06:50You know, you, you can, you can help people out in different ways.
06:54You don't have to kill them.
06:55Um, that's a bit too much.
06:59Yeah.
06:59So that's, that's why he also tries, um, when, when he becomes her friend, it's just, it's just not out
07:07of, uh, uh, just trying to have fun, but it's also maybe possibly trying to teach her some other things
07:17as well.
07:17Maybe the better way to ask you guys is walking the line, walking the boundary between, you know, uh, acceptance
07:25and sort of tragedy.
07:56Yeah.
07:57He wants her to see him to be seen.
08:05Yeah.
08:06You see, that's, that, that, that's the thing.
08:09Like, I, we're thinking about that.
08:13I know I really wasn't.
08:15I'm just like, like, I had this one perspective in my head, which is like, oh, I want to have
08:22fun with her.
08:23That's so just like, I want to hang out with her like that, that, that was my motto throughout the
08:27movie.
08:28And his, I, I guess that like, that was the goal that I was going for.
08:33And he just didn't know any other way to do it.
08:36Okay.
08:36I'll steal her bike because that's that, that's how she'll be involved because she loves that bike.
08:42So I remember, uh, uh, when we filmed the scene where you two meet and then she rides away on
08:49her bike and you're looking at her, uh, through the window.
08:52And we did like that, that like for 10 or 15 takes, because in each take you were looking at
08:59her, like you fell in love, like at once.
09:03You were like, oh, I want to, I, yeah, I want to be with her.
09:08But, uh, we, I really needed him to be interested in her in, in other ways.
09:15Yeah.
09:15And admiration, not love.
09:17Yes, exactly.
09:18Yeah.
09:18Yeah.
09:18That was, that, that, that was probably, and that, that, that we, we had struggles that with that throughout the
09:23movie, just like urban, what are you doing?
09:26Like, you are looking at her, like you're in love.
09:29We want to look, we're going the other way.
09:31Like it is the admiration is just the wow effect of her.
09:35Like there is a person there who actually lives her life the way she wants it.
09:40Because I think that the rock, although like he says he's content with his, with his life, but, um, he
09:47obviously isn't.
09:48Otherwise he wouldn't steal the bike and go on the path of no return.
09:52And, um, so the boredom that he is like content with does, does pester him.
09:59So that's right.
10:01Laura, is she content?
10:05Content?
10:05Sorry.
10:06Sorry.
10:06Just give me, just, uh, content means, uh, yes, of course.
10:13Yes.
10:13Um, but of course they find each other interesting because they both have these little passions, right?
10:20She, he, she's, uh, solving a crime, he's stealing things and they are a bit different than anybody else in
10:27this world.
10:28And that's why I think that they find each other, each other interesting because they are not boring persons, even
10:35though the world is in, uh, in which they are, is boring.
10:40Um, but yes, she is concerned.
10:43She's doing good things, fair things.
10:47Um, she's a fair person.
10:49Um, she's a-
