00:07another day another service delivery protest in Johannesburg electricity shortages deteriorating
00:14road conditions crime and poor waste management will be top of mind for South Africans voting
00:21we're still paying a lot of money for the water that we don't get plus the electricity that you
00:27not getting imagine having to carry that water buckets every morning you know and I mean like
00:33now I'm left with no water at home some political analysts expect that voter turnout this year will
00:39be even lower than the last election five years ago less than 50 percent of the population went
00:46out to vote however with the cost of living crisis hitting hard and ongoing service delivery issues
00:52voters may just go out in their numbers to make their voices heard we really really really need
00:59change as in yesterday because the conditions that we find ourselves in are not conscious of you know
01:08water electricity potholes everything so we definitely voting for change I like to see more people being
01:18employed maybe people who are living in formal settlements have a houses decent houses decent
01:26toilets because where we are living for you to go to the toilet you have to dig a hole however
01:33would
01:33support waning for the African National Congress the formation of coalitions has weakened decision
01:39making at local level South Africa is in a deep crisis whereby political parties themselves have got an
01:49existential preference that is there they were an interest to survive and believe that they can get bigger on
01:56their own without reflecting or doing what the public expects them to do people are concerned about basic
02:03issues about putting food on the plate at the table for their household they're concerned about waking up in the
02:13morning and going to get a place of employment and so they're concerned about their safety over 13 500 candidates
02:24are contesting these elections each with their own set of promises almost every single mainstream party that I know
02:33probably with exception of the EFF right is a stampede about how many of them or how many migrants they
02:44are going to be deported
02:45none of them has been able to bring a program or at least even pretend that they have a program
02:52to solve the crisis of unemployment the crisis of housing public health care but also a very basic municipal services
03:01like refuse collection
