Fires seem to have a mind of their own, especially when they break out in crowded areas. The clip, shared by Abas, shows a major fire raging through a shopping area in Nanga Pinoh District. ''A major fire broke out in a shopping area on Jalan Merak, Desa Tanjung Niaga, Nanga Pinoh District, Melawi Regency, West Kalimantan, in the early hours of Wednesday (October 28, 2026). Dozens of shops (shophouses) were reportedly burned in the incident, which occurred at around 3:30 a.m. The fire that engulfed the busy shopping area caused panic among residents. Several residents tried to escape and salvage belongings that could still be recovered from the burning buildings. Coalition personnel continued firefighting efforts by deploying the available fire engines. As of 7:30 a.m., firefighters were still working to extinguish the flames that had engulfed several shophouses in the area. The scale of the fire and the densely packed buildings at the location posed challenges for firefighting efforts. Firefighters worked to control the flames to prevent them from spreading to other buildings and causing greater damage,'' Abas told WooGlobe. Despite the efforts of the coalition personnel and fire engines, the flames continue to resist their attempts to extinguish them. The situation is tense as the fire threatens to spread further.
