Tuesday's midterm elections laid bare voters' deep frustrations over high prices, the Iran war and concerns over government corruption.

00:00So, five takeaways from what was a rather busy 2026 midterm night.
00:06Takeaway number one, no more unified GOP control of Washington.
00:11Now, Democrats control both the House and the Senate.
00:15It is the first time both chambers have flipped from one party to another in 20 years.
00:20Only the fourth time it's happened since World War II.
00:24How did it happen?
00:25Takeaway number two, a couple of the states that were battlegrounds that flipped.
00:30Texas, not really even a battleground.
00:33A white whale for Democrats for such a long time.
00:36No Democrat had been elected to the Senate in Texas since 1988.
00:41James Tallarico was not born then.
00:44He is now going to the United States Senate as a Democrat from Texas beating Ken Paxton.
00:51Let's take another one.
00:52In Michigan, Abdul El-Sayed, kind of an insurgent candidate, progressive, young, brash.
01:00If that message can play in Michigan, it can play anywhere in America, is what some Democrats thought it did.
01:07Abdul El-Sayed will become America's first Muslim senator, and he will go to the Senate as a Democrat.
01:12Takeaway number three were some of the states that simply haven't done this in a long time,
01:18that are traditional GOP strongholds.
01:20Take, for example, Kansas had not elected a Democrat to the Senate in 94 years, nearly a century.
01:29But it now has.
01:31Incoming Roger Marshall went down.
01:33Iowa, Ashley Hinson, with President Trump's backing, was trying to win after three terms in the House.
01:39She did not.
01:40Josh Turek did.
01:41So there's three takeaways for you right there.
01:43Takeaway number four is President Trump himself.
01:47He told voters to act like he was on the ballot.
01:51They did.
01:52And the GOP paid a price.
01:54The president immediately came out and said, well, I wasn't on the ballot.
01:58If I was, we would have won in a landslide.
02:01He's not taking responsibility for this.
02:03Takeaway number five, what does it look like now?
02:07Relations between the White House and Congress.
02:09President Trump says he is willing to deal with Democrats.
02:13He's willing to try the bipartisan route.
02:16How long is that going to last?
02:18That's something that we're going to be looking at for the next couple months and really the final two years
02:23of Trump 2.0.
