Delving into the themes of his film 'The Uprising,' director Paul Greengrass explains how the stark division between the rich and poor in medieval England felt surprisingly contemporary and served as the birthplace for the Robin Hood myth.

00:00Well, I think what was really interesting to me was that you had this world in medieval
00:05England in the 14th century that was sort of starkly divided between the sort of wealthy
00:10oligarchs who protected their wealth and privileges and the mass of people who were raging the
00:15angry outside felt the system was rigged against them.
00:18And that was, that felt very contemporary.
00:21That felt like today and tomorrow.
00:23What was unexpected to me was to realise that that was where the sort of legend of Robin
00:31Hood really began.
00:33And it began because the legend spoke to that same world, a world of injustice, you know,
00:40where the rich were rich and the poor were poor.
00:44And that felt like getting close to where the legend really began.
