00:02Another longtime Republican senator is out. Susan Collins has lost her bid for a sixth term,
00:08ending a nearly 30-year run in Washington. And the Democrat who defeated her, Troy Jackson,
00:13a former logger who had just over 100 days to campaign. Jackson entered the race in July after
00:19Democratic nominee Graham Plattner dropped out amid controversy. He went on to defeat Collins,
00:24the only Republican senator from a state Kamala Harris won in 2024. And in his victory speech,
00:30Jackson credited working class voters. We, we did it. Working people did it.
00:37A little more than 100 days ago, I stood in front of our convention and asked you
00:43to put your faith in a logger from Allie Gash. Well, tonight, tonight, or again this morning,
00:52the people of Maine have elected that logger to the United States Senate.
01:00Collins conceded before the race was officially called,
01:03saying it had been the honor of her life to serve Maine in the Senate.
