00:01What happens when you switch on the lights, turn on the fan, or charge your phone?
00:05It may seem like electricity is always there when we need it.
00:09But have you ever wondered where that electricity comes from?
00:13In Malaysia, much of our electricity still comes from fossil fuels such as coal and natural gas.
00:20At the same time, the country is working towards using more renewable energy,
00:25including solar and hydropower, as part of its goal to reach net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
00:32But there is something all of us can do too.
00:35We can learn to use energy wisely and avoid wasting it.
00:39And that is where these students come in!
00:42What I learnt today that is, I can save energy very well and I think everyone can do it.
00:51These students are taking part in Powering the Future, PTF,
00:57a school programme jointly organised by Tenaga National Berhad and Star Media Group Berhad.
01:02Now in its fourth year, the programme is helping children understand where their electricity comes from,
01:08why energy matters, and how small changes can make a difference.
01:13Haris rasa seronok dapat test model kit tentang penjanaan elektrik.
01:19The programme is part of the Malaysia Energy Literacy Programme ,
01:25which uses games, activities, and real-life examples to make learning about energy more fun.
01:32For the younger students, that means getting hands-on and learning through activities they can see and experience.
01:39For secondary school students, the challenges are a little more advanced,
01:43with real-world situations that get them thinking about how energy is used and how it can be saved.
02:07Ha, macam itulah.
02:07And that is really the point.
02:10Saving energy does not always require a big change.
02:14Turning off a light when you leave a room, switching off appliances when they are not being used,
02:19or simply thinking twice before using electricity unnecessarily can all help.
02:24Benda baru yang saya belajar, saya dapat tahu macam mana nak kurangkan penggunaan tenaga electric.
02:31Saya dapat tahu macam mana nak kira umur apa semua.
02:35Saya dapat tahu lebih banyak tentang tenagalah.
02:39TNB Chief Retail Officer, Datuk Kamal Arifin Rahman says,
02:43building these habits early is important.
02:46We like to see the energy efficiency as being part of the culture of our people of Malaysia, Rahaya Keter.
02:54So that we will continue to utilise the resources such that it is utilised efficiently.
03:03What we like to encourage the younger generation, because it starts from the younger generation,
03:08as they grow to become the future consumers of electricity.
03:13And the programme is certainly reaching plenty of young people.
03:18For PTF 4.0, 2,431 students from 30 primary and secondary schools in Putrajaya, Selangor, Melaka and Perak took
03:28part.
03:29Across four editions since 2023, PTF has now reached more than 11,114 students in 12 states.
03:37What I am most pleased with today is that I can play a game.
03:44I play a game and work in a group.
03:47From understanding where electricity comes from to learning how not to waste it,
03:53these students are discovering that being energy smart can start with some very simple choices.
03:58And perhaps the biggest lesson is this.
04:01The future belongs to them.
04:04So, if they start making smarter energy choices today,
04:08they can help make Malaysia's tomorrow a little brighter.
04:18Now that's a bright idea!
04:20.
