00:00Carrie, I have PTSD still from Downton Abbey when Sybil died in childbirth, so all through the premiere, I was
00:06like, he's going to do it again, he's going to do it to Gladys.
00:08How relieved were you that we got to keep Thaisa on the show, and how important is it for your
00:13character that Duke chose Gladys over the heir?
00:16Oh, I mean, I love Thaisa, of course. We're so lucky to have her. I wish we had her more
00:21this season.
00:23Every day is better when she's there.
00:25So important. I mean, in that time, the heir was everything, and especially when you're considering the aristocracy in England.
00:30I mean, Gladys is ostensibly married off in order to save that family, their fortune and their lineage.
00:35And so it makes sense that Lady Sarah, who I love, I think Hattie is so great in that part.
00:40She's amazing. You know, a really critical moment.
00:44And I think even more important, it puts Bertha in the moment of realizing she almost lost her daughter, and
00:49she almost lost her husband less than a year prior.
00:51And so it's really put everything in perspective for Bertha this season, what's important to her.
00:57I would also just add, I think it is that sort of final moment of vindication for Bertha.
01:01Like, oh, I did, I was really right about the character of this man and who he will be.
01:06That's right. Yes, it's very validating that way.
01:08Were you ever concerned for Gladys, and what does it mean for her that the Duke does choose her over
01:13the baby, even though in the end he doesn't have to?
01:16For God's sake, save them both if you can.
01:18But if a choice must be made, then save the Duchess.
01:24Oh, thank God.
01:25I wasn't scared for Gladys, because I was thinking about it, I was like, well, because I got to talk
01:30with Julian and Sonia before I had a bit of knowledge of where Gladys was going this season.
01:34So I luckily, unlike audiences, didn't have to be stressed.
01:38But I knew it was going to be a harrowing experience for her.
01:43Obviously, it was intense to film, but, you know, I think it really just shows, I mean, I think it's
01:48another achievement on Gladys' arc.
01:49It shows your range.
01:51Shows my range.
01:52Your death.
01:53I really do love heavy emotional scenes.
01:55And, well, you know, Scream Queen, I got to exercise that in the Gilded Age.
01:59That's exciting.
02:01She can't be in danger with everything you told us to.
02:04Try to accept the pain in your grace.
02:06And in the end, Bertha was right.
02:09And she's happy, and she has a partner for the first time.
02:11Someone that chooses, well, chooses her for her money, but chooses her for her.
02:16His actions, you know, and his words are starting to align, and it's to take care of Gladys.
02:22So I think this is just that extra validation of, this is my partner.
02:26Maybe I can have what my mother's been wanting from me, what my mother has with George or what I
02:31thought she had.
