00:07Oh my goodness, this is what we came for.
00:13There you go, there you go.
00:18On the island of Borneo, a rainforest millions of years older than the Amazon, Tanjung Puteng
00:28National Park, a tapestry of low-lying tropical heath and peat swamp jungle, protected from
00:36the threat of deforestation, it's an essential ecosystem spanning 4,000 square kilometres.
00:46Home to native plants, birds and mammals.
00:54Maybe one up there.
00:55Including the rare and endangered proboscis monkey.
01:01This is as wild as it gets.
01:03Taking in the sights after travelling 1,000 kilometres, three teams are at the first
01:09checkpoint.
01:12It's good to finally meet who we're racing against.
01:14Absolutely.
01:15We were thinking about you, but we didn't even know who we were thinking about.
01:18It's probably made me, I don't know about you, Dad, a bit more nervous, sort of in an
01:23athletic sense.
01:24What Matt means very politely is when you look at us, you see an old git who's probably
01:30got 35 years at least on any of you.
01:33I think it's an act.
01:34I think it's an act.
01:36You guys can be the dark horses.
01:37Yeah, that's the best thing.
01:38Yeah, that's the best thing.
01:40I don't think we took enough risk.
01:42I think the level of risk we've taken so far is right, to risk and reward.
01:45If there's no massive reward, there's no point in taking the risk.
01:49That is a way of looking at it if we want to just keep plodding along.
01:52But I think if we really want to win, we've got to try and be more dynamic.
01:56You guys absolutely played a blinder.
01:58This master.
02:00What do you have jet packs on or something like that?
02:03There's definitely going to be a target on our back, but as long as we just keep
02:07focusing on our race, keep doing what we were doing, hopefully we won't come last
02:10ever.
02:11That's kind of the goal.
02:12Even though it might seem a big gap, like anything can happen.
02:17I think there's a lot of lessons learned on the first leg as well.
02:19Looking forward to taking that mindset into the second leg.
02:21I think the most competitive are Ella and Nana.
02:24Yeah, I'd agree.
02:26We've got some aces up our sleeves with how we do things, which I think is really, really fun.
02:31Being able to laugh at all the strange situations is, I think, the beauty of it.
02:35You spent all your time laughing.
02:37Now, we didn't.
02:39No, we didn't because we were so stressed.
02:41There's a fourth pair that we're missing.
02:43Yeah.
02:43Has anyone seen them yet?
02:44Mate, I haven't seen them at all.
02:48So nice, isn't it?
02:50Beautiful.
02:51We're literally in the middle of nowhere.
02:53Isn't it?
02:55Aye, aye.
02:56No way.
02:58What an entrance, eh?
03:00Isn't it?
03:0118.
03:02About time.
03:03Just a bit late, but we're here.
03:07While 18 hours separate second and third place from the race leaders, the youngest team trail them by over a
03:14day.
03:16Hey.
03:17Hey.
03:18Good to see you.
03:18We're so late.
03:20Good to see you.
03:20My friend Dale's not 16.
03:22Junior.
03:23Lovely to meet you, Junior.
03:24We are last, which does suck a little bit.
03:26It is annoying, but I feel like we know what we're doing better for next leg.
03:30It's actually crazy to see you guys in person.
03:33We're obviously all coming for you, but we've got a long way to go.
03:38I feel like we have a good chance of closing that gap.
03:41We need to amp it up a little bit.
03:43Any ways up?
03:44Let's just say bring it on.
03:46Amazing adventures ahead.
04:04Good morning.
04:06Good morning.
04:07Be kind to ask this leg, please.
04:09Hello.
04:10Good morning.
04:11Good morning.
04:11Yay.
04:12Setting off first with an enviable lead.
04:15Best friends, Ella and Nana.
04:18Your second checkpoint is...
04:21Balik Papan.
04:22Never heard of it.
04:23Sounds buff.
04:25Yes, very much.
04:26Yes, very much.
04:31OK, let's find it on the map.
04:34All right.
04:35Oh!
04:36Balik Papan.
04:37Well done.
04:38Hopefully that's a big central hug.
04:40Hmm.
04:41We'll see.
04:431,200 kilometres to the northeast.
04:47The second checkpoint, Balik Papan.
04:51Once a small fishing village, transformed into a bustling energy hub after the discovery of oil over a century ago.
05:01It was targeted for its refineries in World War II, and now this modern city coexists with the remnants of
05:10its past.
05:11Right.
05:12So, I feel like these roads are worth paying attention to.
05:15Suggests that that's more of a...
05:17Major route.
05:17...beaten track.
05:18Yeah.
05:18...show that could be in speed.
05:21To reach Balik Papan, teams could take a detour south, making use of Borneo's fastest road network, the Trans-Kalimantan
05:31Highway, passing through Banjar and Bugis communities that live along the Java Sea.
05:38Or they could take a more direct route through one of the most remote parts of the island, where the
05:44Maratis Mountains dive into dense jungle, home to Borneo's rarest wildlife, but a region where public transport is scarce.
05:54Okay.
05:55Okay.
05:55I'd like to be in a bit more of a city.
05:58What's calling you?
05:59I really want to do it.
06:00Rural.
06:00Like, I just think it's more interesting.
06:02More animals.
06:03More animals.
06:04And hopefully orangutans.
06:05Yeah.
06:06My worry is that we are going into the unknown.
06:08We still want to have some sort of lead.
06:10I honestly don't think it's about the route at all.
06:13It's about the...us.
06:15Yeah, it's true.
06:16I genuinely do believe that.
06:18It's true.
06:18And also, it would be so cool to get eyes on some orangutans before we leave.
06:22Indonesia.
06:23Exactly, yeah.
06:24So, we are shooting for tankling.
06:27Okay, yes.
06:28Next step, tankling.
06:29We're going to see some orangutans.
06:32Ella and Nana plan to brave a route that cuts inland, in the hope of catching a glimpse of Borneo's
06:39most famous residents.
06:43That's our bus.
06:46Sweet.
06:47Wonderful.
06:48I love it already.
06:49And we're actually out of tankling and boon before any of the other teams even leave.
06:54Yeah, exactly.
06:56We might be the first couple to win every leg.
07:05We need to try and gain a couple of hours back on Ella and Nana.
07:08Yeah.
07:09Having arrived at the checkpoint 18 hours behind the race leaders...
07:13I bet they're leisurely just meandering.
07:15They're not being leisurely.
07:15If I had an 18-hour lead, I'd be Sonic the Hedgehog, mate.
07:20Yeah.
07:20Sam and Kaz are setting off into the night.
07:23What are you thinking?
07:24It's a long, old way, man.
07:25My instinct is to go as the crow flies, really.
07:29But that lure comes with the biggest risk.
07:32It's just the unreliability of travel that's going to put us even further back.
07:36Yeah.
07:36So we could make use of the highway.
07:39Yeah.
07:39It might be a bus to Banjo-Martin.
07:42And then we go north, northeast through the interior of the island and take all the risks and the chance
07:48that come with it.
07:49I think it's worth the risk.
07:50All right.
07:51So we are heading to Loxado.
07:53Hopefully the travel gods smile on us.
07:58To catch up, Sam and Kaz aim to make use of the highway to Banjo-Martin before adventuring through the
08:05island's interior to Loxado.
08:08There's got to be a decent bus heading east.
08:10And I reckon there ain't going to be one tonight.
08:12So do we stay here, get to sleep early and hope there's an absolute crack of dawn bus.
08:17Perfect.
08:17OK.
08:18I think now is the time to go and find somewhere to stay free.
08:22Yeah, yeah.
08:23See you, mate.
08:24I'm confident that we can stay somewhere for free every night of this entire trip.
08:32Anywhere to sleep?
08:34For zero?
08:36I've already been in a garage.
08:37May as well do it again.
08:38Sensing of no.
08:39Me and Sam first met, it was probably around like 13 years ago.
08:43OK.
08:44Bye-bye.
08:45Bye-bye.
08:45And since day one, Sam has always been a ball of energy.
08:49Let's keep going then.
08:50I know I could get us somewhere free to stay.
08:52He throws the best version of himself and everything he goes through.
08:55Doesn't exist.
08:56I'm so sorry.
08:57No, no problem.
08:59He finds a way to find it positive.
09:00And that's admirable because a lot of people can't do it.
09:02I love Katsu.
09:04I'm going to ask you.
09:05No.
09:06No.
09:06OK, OK.
09:07I know there's somewhere, man.
09:10Come on, we've got a race.
09:12OK.
09:14Sit here.
09:15Yeah, fine.
09:16Just 20 minutes behind Sam and Kaz.
09:18Immediate thought is going to be different to yours.
09:21Jeff and his son, Matt.
09:23My top choice at the moment would be to go inland to try and experience sort of the more scenic,
09:30beautiful areas.
09:31You're right.
09:32It's different than mine.
09:33I think the roads are going to be shocking.
09:36I just think around that highway is a better route.
09:41I'm in charge.
09:43No, it's not like that, is it?
09:45Not like that.
09:46I'm really keen on going inland through Amman Thai.
09:49I'm not sure.
09:51But in terms of the race, I think this is maybe an occasion for the old bloke with the wise
09:57head to just step back a little.
09:59Hand over the reins a little bit.
10:02Let the reins out a little rather than hand them over, I would say.
10:06My thought process is that the people that went inland finished first and second.
10:11Clearly it was more direct.
10:13Yeah, I get that.
10:14I'm happy to go with you.
10:15OK.
10:16I'm happy to go with you, Matt.
10:17I have to say I did not think you would be on board with this.
10:21To say it's off the beaten track, I mean, it's an understatement.
10:25But look, Matt wanted to do the inland route and I want him to be a happy boy, believe you
10:30me.
10:31Taking the reins this leg, Matt's embracing Borneo's rugged interior and a brave move to make up time.
10:40It's raining, it's fine, isn't it?
10:41Do you have a room with two beds?
10:44But with no buses leaving until morning.
10:46No, it's fine.
10:48It doesn't matter.
10:50The team are bedding down in a local hotel.
10:53Well, this is going to be nice and close, Dad.
10:54Oh, my goodness gracious.
10:56Yeah, just ignore the toilet and the rest of it's fine.
10:59The mirror has got a picture of Lady Di on it.
11:02It's a lovely homely touch.
11:05I'm surprised it's taken a whole leg for us to end up sharing a bed, so I hope you're excited
11:09for that.
11:10God help us.
11:13Can we just walk down an alley?
11:16Across town?
11:17Eh, we don't have much luck.
11:18I reckon we just call it...
11:20I reckon we just go to the hostel or hotel.
11:22OK.
11:22I have a lot of faith and I try and incorporate that just into everyday life.
11:28Hello.
11:29Do you know hotel?
11:30Can you help?
11:30The signs showed themselves quite subtly.
11:33English?
11:34No.
11:35I asked these guys.
11:36I find that quite exciting.
11:38Do you speak any little English?
11:40Iron Maiden!
11:41Iron Maiden t-shirt.
11:43Mate, my favourite band.
11:45Dude, we're in.
11:46This is it.
11:47I went to a Catholic school.
11:48We were on a school trip to a nunnery and I got on a bus and on the floor was
11:52this CD.
11:52It was facing the shiny side up.
11:55I turned it over.
11:56It's Iron Maiden, Seventh Son of the Seventh Son.
11:58I've seen maybe 15 times.
12:01As soon as I heard that I was like, this is it.
12:03That's when I fell in love with music.
12:06Fate put Iron Maiden into my life and it changed my world.
12:11What's your favourite album?
12:12I can't speak endless.
12:14Ah, OK.
12:16Nah, it's not going to work.
12:17I can't believe it.
12:17This literally looks like a sign from the heavens, man.
12:20Yeah.
12:21Ah, up the irons.
12:23Iron Maiden forever.
12:24Where are you going to go?
12:26Oh, do you speak English?
12:27I can speak English.
12:28Oh, English.
12:28Oh, amazing.
12:29We're in.
12:29We need somewhere to stay for cheap.
12:32I know the cheap hotel.
12:34Not so far from here.
12:35Oh, mate.
12:36OK.
12:36Thank you so much.
12:38Mate, thank you.
12:38Yes, sir.
12:39I knew it, right?
12:40Because a guy with an Iron Maiden t-shirt came out of this road and then you guys came out
12:44of that road.
12:44I just knew it.
12:45Yeah, it's the best.
12:46Yeah.
12:47Peace.
12:48Bye-bye.
12:49What's the chances of him off that t-shirt on?
12:51I know, man.
12:51Told you.
12:53Is this the best option that wasn't free?
12:57Mate, it's absolutely perfect.
13:00Tomorrow, everything's going to go class.
13:01We're going to smash this leg.
13:04I told you it'd work out, didn't I?
13:06At least the aircon works.
13:18What's going through your head?
13:20Well, I'm just thinking the other teams are on a move.
13:22They're probably already on their way to the checkpoint.
13:25Last to leave.
13:26We made it to the bus station.
13:28That's good.
13:29Over a day behind the race leaders.
13:31But now we need to make a plan of where we actually want to go.
13:34Siblings, Princess and Junior.
13:37We just want the easiest travel.
13:39Yeah.
13:39Inland, there just doesn't seem to be main connected roads.
13:43I don't want to risk it.
13:44So, based on what we can see on the map, this looks well connected.
13:47Mm-hm.
13:47So, I think we need to go that way to Kuala Kapuas.
13:50I like that.
13:50Yeah?
13:51Wait, it just licked me.
13:52Am I going to get rabies?
13:55Focusing on speed this leg, Princess and Junior plan to journey
13:59along the Trans-Calimantan Highway to Kuala Kapuas.
14:05All my days.
14:07No flipping ways.
14:07No flipping ways.
14:08No flipping ways.
14:08It's Geoff and Matt.
14:10Hey!
14:11Yo!
14:12I suppose they've caught us up, yeah.
14:13Also looking for an early bus out.
14:16They've caught us up because we've not been able to move anywhere.
14:19Hello.
14:20We basically caught up six hours by just waking up, which is great.
14:25Now we just need to get a move on.
14:27Can you do this, boss?
14:28Oh, my gosh.
14:29Oh, my gosh.
14:29All right, let's say the bus.
14:32It's beeping.
14:33Hello, sir.
14:33What bus is this?
14:35Palankaria.
14:36What time?
14:37Now.
14:37Right, thank you, sir.
14:38Let's cover distance.
14:41As Princess and Junior hop on a luxury bus to Palankaria, the main transport gateway into
14:47Eastern Borneo...
14:49I'm loving this.
14:50I'm actually going to video this.
14:52It's like memes.
14:53Okay.
14:53So we are on this bus.
14:56That's the one that's 375 a ticket, I think.
14:59Opting for a cheaper bus, having spent the most so far, Matt and Geoff.
15:05We saved quite a bit.
15:07Ours.
15:08Significantly cheaper.
15:09Yeah.
15:11We're off to Palankaria and everything is going perfect.
15:17Setting off from a bus stop across town, Sam and Kaz.
15:21I can't believe the other guys are on this bus.
15:23They may have other plans up their sleeve, mate.
15:27Here it is.
15:28Perfect.
15:29Here we go.
15:32So far, I'm happy that we're the only team getting on this bus.
15:35Thanks very much.
15:36Hello.
15:38Hello.
15:41No way!
15:42Hello, mate!
15:43No!
15:45What are you doing here?
15:47No way.
15:48That is amazing.
15:50The three of us, the three teams, all literally neck and neck at this stage.
15:55How far ahead really are Ella and Nana.
16:05I grow up in this place.
16:07Mm-hm.
16:07And it's like my old playground.
16:10Yeah.
16:10Playing, playing.
16:12The nature is singing to us.
16:15Can you hear it?
16:18Wow.
16:19Stunning.
16:21400 kilometres to the east, the remote village of Sago Hong.
16:30Hidden within expansive forests twice the size of Singapore, where striking black waterways run over ancient peat beds.
16:39One of the least explored landscapes in Borneo.
16:44Oh, my goodness.
16:46Nestled on the banks of the Rungan River, a floating cafe, where Ella and Nana have picked up work with
16:5326-year-old entrepreneur, William.
16:56We have a lot of things to do.
16:57Yes.
16:58In return for a trip into the nearby wilderness.
17:02That food looks so yummy.
17:04Oh, my gosh.
17:05It looks so good.
17:06Yeah.
17:06Did you ever work in a cafe?
17:08I worked in a restaurant.
17:09When I was, like, 15.
17:10Did you always eat the food?
17:11Yeah.
17:12Yep, same.
17:13I see.
17:14Is that for you?
17:16Excuse me.
17:17Our guest needs your help.
17:18I've got work to do.
17:19You, you can clean up garbage.
17:21Police checking the toilet tissue.
17:23I told you, non-stop working.
17:25Yes, both.
17:27I'm so impressed by William's work ethic.
17:29At 26, he's just bossing us around.
17:31I love it.
17:32I relate, though.
17:33It's so cool that he had a dream.
17:34And it's happening.
17:36I left school, was signed to a major deal.
17:38And I've been working ever since.
17:41I went straight to university.
17:42I'm now in operations and marketing consultant.
17:45Do you order this?
17:46Yes?
17:46Okay.
17:47Success is very important to both of us.
17:50But for some people, we're, like, behind schedule with starting a family or getting,
17:55whatever that might be.
17:56Who else is a lychee tea?
17:58When we were much younger, we made a pact that we were gonna start our families on a certain
18:04year.
18:06And that year has been and gone.
18:08And all of our friends around us have started their families and are married and off doing
18:12what they do.
18:13And we're just still very happily, actually, single.
18:16So, how old are you?
18:19Sixty.
18:20Wow.
18:22Today we're a team.
18:23High five, guys.
18:24High five.
18:25Good job.
18:27If we had started the pact, if we did have families, we probably wouldn't actually be
18:31able to do this.
18:31Yeah.
18:32I mean, everything has a silver lining.
18:34Yeah.
18:35Doing this with my best friend is really exciting.
18:38God knows what we're gonna get up to.
18:40I love this job.
18:42It's the best job I've ever had.
18:46Ready to go?
18:47Yeah.
18:47Okay.
18:52After a hard day's toil, a trip to Kaja Island.
18:58Please come.
19:00A sanctuary for orangutans who, for a lucky few, reveal themselves at the water's edge.
19:07Most of them are hiding now.
19:13I'm a bit sceptical, I can't lie.
19:16Those orangutans, they really like to tease us.
19:23Look, there is a dark rat over there.
19:26Yeah.
19:26There's an orangutans not moving.
19:28Look.
19:29No way.
19:30No way, right?
19:32Oh, my goodness.
19:34This is an orangutan.
19:36Hi.
19:37Cool.
19:40There's a big one there.
19:42Oh, good.
19:43Massive.
19:44Oh, there's the male one.
19:48This is the best day ever.
19:50I honestly didn't believe we were actually gonna see that today.
19:59Look up there.
20:03Hello.
20:04Wow, this is a dream come true.
20:06Awesome.
20:09Wow, that was special.
20:11I'm not gonna forget that.
20:12That was very special.
20:14Right now, the race is so far from my mind.
20:17This in itself feels like a win.
20:24Oh.
20:27Arriving in the city of Palanka Raya after a 12 hour journey.
20:31Okay.
20:32Yeah.
20:32Geoff and Matt.
20:33Welcome.
20:34Sam and Kaz.
20:35Kaz, I saw this.
20:36You gotta get a taxi, mate.
20:37Right, we're here.
20:38And Princess and Junior.
20:40Put our stuff in the back.
20:44I like moving.
20:46I don't like being still.
20:48Above all else, forget everything else.
20:50Money.
20:50We gotta find a money exchange.
20:52Yep.
20:52Can't see anything there.
20:53No.
20:54And if we can't, we're absolutely dead in the water, you know?
20:58They're all going through there.
20:59I wonder what that means.
21:00Is that a money exchange?
21:02Wait, what?
21:02We need to exchange.
21:03We've got a bit left, but not enough.
21:06Excuse me.
21:07Is there anywhere to exchange money?
21:09No.
21:09Open.
21:10Mandy.
21:11Okay.
21:13It's Saturday today, so we haven't got enough for two nights.
21:18We've got loads of money, but we just can't change it.
21:21Guys, I'm not gonna lie, we're in the same boat here as well.
21:24Yeah.
21:24Just letting you guys know.
21:25Don't be stressed about it.
21:26I mean, at least we're all in this together, right?
21:28Thanks, guys, anyway.
21:31What are we gonna do?
21:34It's not good.
21:36Okay.
21:37You can give money to me.
21:39Yes.
21:40Oh, you can exchange?
21:42Okay, yeah.
21:42Yeah?
21:43Yeah.
21:43Wait a minute, I go to the machine.
21:46I've never felt so cool in my life.
21:48I feel really bad.
21:50You're awful.
21:53Okay.
21:55Should we tell them?
21:56No, no, no.
21:56That's not fair.
21:57Okay.
21:57They've been trying to exchange.
21:59No, and I get that, but this obviously is a competition.
22:01You've got focus on what's going on right now.
22:03You're getting distracted.
22:05It's a hell of a hurdle.
22:07We need a guardian angel to come from somewhere, you know,
22:10something like that, so...
22:12Say we told them, and then they get us hours before us
22:15at the checkpoint.
22:16I'm just not built for this.
22:18I feel really bad.
22:19See?
22:21Okay, should we help them then?
22:23Okay, I'll...
22:24Yeah, yeah, just tell them.
22:26What we did, because we want to help you out,
22:28we feel too bad to not.
22:29We said to them, if we give you dollar,
22:32can you exchange it for us into Rebu?
22:34And they said, yeah.
22:35Did they?
22:36Yeah.
22:37I really appreciate that.
22:38We'll give it a try.
22:39We will ask, because he's been very helpful to us so far.
22:44Will you be able to do it for us?
22:46Yeah, yeah.
22:47Okay, good.
22:48Just wait a minute.
22:49I've got to miss you.
22:50You know what?
22:51The guardian angel I mentioned a couple of minutes ago,
22:54the miracle, might just have happened.
22:57Thanks so much again.
22:58Like, it's such a hard way to do now.
23:02Giving me a fraction of hope.
23:04Let's just get our head down.
23:05While Geoff and Matt decide to overnight in town...
23:09What a saving grace.
23:10Yeah.
23:13Taxi.
23:14Is he now?
23:14Yeah.
23:15Princess and Junior are using their local currency to journey south.
23:20Shared taxi?
23:21Yeah, shared.
23:22Shared taxi.
23:23Okay.
23:24Taking a shared taxi, a popular and economical way to travel in the region.
23:29I've never gotten a shared taxi before.
23:31Yeah, it's a bit weird, actually, isn't it?
23:34Raita, me, Kaz, against you.
23:39Staying in the city, Sam and Kaz have found work for tomorrow in a billiards bar.
23:44Maybe let us sleep somewhere tonight for free.
23:47Yes.
23:48Oh, amazing.
23:49Woo!
23:50You want it?
23:50Yes.
23:51100%.
23:51That would be amazing.
23:52Right, time for bed.
23:54I'll have free accommodation, though.
23:56We should be getting overtime, because we're also the security for the building.
24:07We've got two hours to go.
24:09So we've, what, travelled 14 hours today?
24:12We've actually done great today.
24:19We've got a break.
24:25We've got a break.
24:26Sorry.
24:27No, no, no.
24:29We are coming, and then I've...
24:30We cannot...
24:31Can't you just get busted?
24:33Well, we're stopping off again, Patio.
24:33Well, yeah, what do you want?
24:34I don't know.
24:35Well, we're stopping off again.
24:36We're getting pets off.
24:37So we're safe.
24:39Yeah.
24:40Oh, you know something, Jura?
24:44It's just like, I don't know, I think it's like the quick movement to, like, getting out of the car,
24:48walking around in the dark, because that's what happened to us in the hijack.
24:52Yeah, it's just post-traumatic stress.
24:53Yeah.
24:55We were in South Africa. I was actually 10 at the time. Junior was 12. And we stopped off at
25:01a petrol station. Two minutes later, there were six guys on our car.
25:05They had a baseball bat, and they just start, like, hitting the windows, trying to smash them open.
25:13And I remember my mum was sat there with a pillow like this, just waiting for it to break.
25:17They were like, give me your kids, give me your kids, or we'll shoot you.
25:21Me and Junior in the back scene, we were, like, bawling our eyes out.
25:25Rookie.
25:27Just really, really strong.
25:29100% it is.
25:31Honestly, I actually did think I was going to die.
25:34My immediate thought is, like, they're going to pull out weapons.
25:38I can actually hear the noise of, like, them banging the window.
25:43I can literally still picture it all, like it happened yesterday.
25:48I thought I was over it, to be honest.
25:50Yeah, and when I...
25:51And then that just completely, like, my heart was, like, I actually almost couldn't breathe.
25:55Like, I was really scared.
25:56Yeah, I know you was.
25:58Yeah.
25:58But you're fine.
25:59Thanks.
26:00You all right?
26:01We're safe.
26:05Where are you from, bro?
26:07England, England.
26:08Where are you from?
26:09Palangaraya.
26:10Ah, Palangaraya.
26:14Nice guy.
26:14Yeah.
26:26Well, I slept so well.
26:28Mm.
26:28Oh, it's exactly nearly five.
26:31Look at us.
26:32Getting a taxi to Boontook.
26:36That's the plan.
26:37We go, we go.
26:39Oh!
26:40Up before sunrise in Tanki Ling, Ella and Nana are heading further inland, aiming for Boontook en route to the
26:49checkpoint.
26:51We don't really know what happens past that point.
26:54We don't really know what happens past that point, but I'm fairly confident that we can get buses from Boontook
26:57onward.
26:58Whether that takes us away from Alikprapan, I don't know.
27:01It's anywhere between five and seven hours.
27:05This taxi.
27:06This is hope it's not more than that.
27:08Oh.
27:16This one?
27:17Fantastic.
27:17Lovely.
27:1835 kilometres south in Palangaraya.
27:21Do you know how long it takes to get to Amantai?
27:23Maybe seven or eight hours.
27:26Seven or eight.
27:26That's fine.
27:27Geoff and Matt, also intent on crossing the island's interior, are taking a shared taxi to Amantai.
27:38OK, no problem.
27:40Yes.
27:40Yep.
27:41So, Mr. Mr sitting next to Mr.
27:47Oh, you're the wife.
27:48Yeah, yeah, yeah.
27:49Just please be on the way.
27:54You know what it might mean for once we have a chilled evening.
27:57We might actually have a proper bit of food.
27:59That would be nice.
28:02Well, who's it?
28:05It's in...
28:07Straight wheel bengkel.
28:10Excuse me.
28:12Yeah.
28:12Oh, this one.
28:14Yeah.
28:15It starts to feel like we are on a postal service rather than a direct taxi route to Amantai.
28:24I feel that they may have a boot full of deliveries to make.
28:27Oh, my God.
28:30So, I hope we are getting there at a decent time.
28:33It's around a shared dimension.
28:35I think that might be another address going straight into the phone now.
28:39Yeah.
28:40Oh, God.
28:41Yeah.
28:48Wow.
28:50Didn't realise we'd have such a big audience.
28:51Having chosen to travel south...
28:57As an audience, people are, like, cheering me off.
29:02Oh, bless, man.
29:04Princess and Junior have reached Koala Kapuas.
29:10A region of waterlogged plains where Purin reeds thrive.
29:17An eco-friendly material that, when dried, can be woven into handicrafts.
29:24Wow.
29:25This is so cool.
29:27Whoa.
29:28Okay.
29:29Whoa.
29:29Careful with that.
29:30So, the grass turns into this and to this.
29:34Wow.
29:34Oh, that's very...
29:36That's really cool.
29:37Working to pay off last night's stay, the siblings are helping Novi and her friends
29:42and family to harvest the reeds.
29:46Do you get in the river?
29:48You?
29:49No.
29:49No.
29:50No, you just stay here.
29:51Yeah.
29:52Me too.
29:53Stay good.
29:54Yeah.
29:54And you are your age?
29:57You are one...
29:59Eight?
30:00Eight.
30:01Okay.
30:01Same.
30:01Same.
30:07Seeing how different our lives are is actually crazy.
30:11It does put things into perspective.
30:14This place is chanting.
30:17Everything.
30:18Everyone here looks so happy.
30:20I think the whole thing about it is the love, the family, and just doing things that you enjoy.
30:26You pick up two each time, so one under, one on top.
30:30Yes.
30:31Okay.
30:32These two?
30:33No?
30:34No.
30:34Junior, one goes over, one goes under.
30:37Oh, you're going?
30:39I'm going.
30:44Okay.
30:46I'm actually loving this.
30:48It's really therapeutic.
30:49It's quite nice, isn't it?
30:51Yeah, I thought it was fun, but I'm tired from last night.
30:55Yeah, no, yesterday was long, man.
30:57You had a little trigger moment as well.
30:59Yeah.
31:00I just felt a bit silly, because it was a moment of they literally stopped at the shops.
31:05Like, it was nothing.
31:06But I got...
31:07Yeah, but you know it is normal to be triggered by something if you've experienced something traumatic.
31:11Yeah.
31:12It's actually, if anything, a bit sad that it made you feel that way.
31:16It was just weird, because, like, I haven't really experienced that for ages.
31:21So I just don't put myself in those situations.
31:24Like, I won't go anywhere where I think it's going to put me at risk.
31:28Yeah.
31:28It's just, that was, like, probably the most traumatic thing I've ever experienced.
31:34Like, yeah, we were kids and thought we were going to die.
31:36Like, I always looked back to when it happened and I froze, and how helpless I felt, and I never
31:42wanted to feel that again.
31:44Me and Princess dealt with it in different ways.
31:47I feel like the hijacking made me stronger as a person.
31:51I didn't want to run away from it, but for Princess, you know, it affected her for years.
31:57I've noticed it stopped you doing things more independently.
32:02Doing this, doing a race, is a big step, it's a big thing.
32:05Mmm.
32:06I wanted to come on the race to get over my fears and to, like, be more independent.
32:11I think something like that I'll never be able to forget, but you can't let trauma affect, like, you just
32:18can't let it affect your life.
32:21I do think it's important to kind of live through the fear a little bit to kind of be able
32:29to get through it.
32:33Is this okay? Have we done all right?
32:35It's good.
32:35Yeah, that's good.
32:36Yes, it's good.
32:37Thank you for having us.
32:40Is there a bus from here to Assam Assam?
32:44No.
32:45No.
32:46Is the only way a taxi?
32:47If so, can you help us get one, please?
32:51Yes.
32:53Continuing along the highway, Princess and Junior are aiming for Assam Assam on their way to the checkpoint.
33:01Hopefully it's smooth sailing.
33:06How are you getting on, mate?
33:07Smashing it, pal.
33:10Getting too cocky there, mate.
33:11Get too.
33:12In Palankaraya, Sam and Kaz are finishing their cleaning shift at the billiards bar.
33:19Spaced these wrong, haven't I?
33:21Got to get it right.
33:24Benny, that's that done.
33:26It's okay?
33:27It's the good chop.
33:28Yeah, cool. Cheers, Sam.
33:30Kaz?
33:30Yes, mate?
33:31We need to get going quick.
33:33So, our destination today is Banjarmasin.
33:37There's a lot of corn in there.
33:41Following Princess and Junior, Sam and Kaz are taking the highway south as far as Banjarmasin, where they'll divert through
33:49the interior.
33:51We need to make some ground.
34:01God, I wouldn't want to drive down here.
34:03It's bustling, isn't it?
34:04Now, five hours into their shared taxi and delivery service to Amantai, Geoff and Matt.
34:10We've dropped off once, our passengers, but it looks like we're just arriving at potentially a little ferry port to
34:15pick up more.
34:17Yeah, I think that's exactly what's happening.
34:19I'm coming to my side.
34:20Okay.
34:21Well, that's going to be a lot of fun, isn't it?
34:25Struggling here is you literally cannot move an inch.
34:28It sounds extravagant, doesn't it?
34:30We're going to take a taxi for the next seven hours.
34:32You extravagant fools, you.
34:35I think it's going to be really strange spending that amount of time with you, especially to begin with,
34:41because we haven't been doing that.
34:43It's okay when there are two of you sitting in the seat for three.
34:47But when there are three of you, it's pretty testing.
34:51Being with the same person for that amount of time is taxing, even in the most sort of luxurious of
34:56circumstances.
34:57The truth is we have no idea how far away we actually are.
35:01Maybe we'll ask.
35:03And we're going to be spending 24 hours in pretty difficult situations, day after day after day.
35:09I'm looking forward to it.
35:13Excuse me.
35:14How long is it to Amantai?
35:16This is Banjarmasin.
35:22Right.
35:26It's taking us to the wrong pace.
35:30Instead of cutting directly inland as planned, Geoff and Matt have travelled south to Banjarmasin.
35:38From here?
35:40Yeah.
35:40That can't...
35:41How long?
35:42She's saying it's another seven hours.
35:44No.
35:58After successfully navigating their way through the island's interior to Boontauk...
36:02This is the cheapest bus we've got.
36:04Oh, no.
36:05Ella and Nana are taking an overnight bus, also aiming for Amantai.
36:14Oh, my gosh, these seats are small.
36:15Yours is a fully reclining seat and mine doesn't recline at all.
36:18That's crazy.
36:20This is why this bus is 90,000.
36:23First thing tomorrow, bus is bus out of Amantai to Balienkavan.
36:28OK.
36:43It looks so cool, man.
36:45Absolutely perfect.
36:48Uncharted.
36:49Yeah.
36:50In the foothills of Borneo's Maratus Mountains...
36:54Loch Sado.
36:56Nestled along the Amandeet River, the surrounding rock formations are steeped in legend.
37:03Believed to be home to ancestral spirits, local healers give offerings in return for good fortunes for their communities.
37:13Having journeyed inland from the southern highway...
37:17Every day, wake up, work. It's good for you.
37:20Sam and Kaz have found a job at a riverside glamping lodge, moving rocks to secure the riverbank.
37:27Oh, there it is.
37:29Did you ever do any manual work, Kaz?
37:30I worked in, like, a warehouse.
37:33Did you?
37:33It was 43 hours for 75 quid.
37:35Me?
37:36When you had 75 quid at 16, you thought you were loaded.
37:39Yeah, yeah, yeah.
37:40I know you weren't for your dad.
37:41Yeah, I'm on a building site, really, to pay for doing music.
37:45Yeah.
37:45So we could go home on the weekend...
37:48Oh, that's a class.
37:49Go home on the weekends and then go and play some gigs.
37:54I remember just thinking to myself, I've got to get out of here.
37:59It took a long time.
38:0015 years.
38:01Like, it's a long stretch of knockbacks and failures.
38:08I remember having this feeling, like, maybe that dream of making my own music and doing a gig at Wembley.
38:15Maybe that's not in my stars, you know?
38:18I can't count the amount of times I thought, this will be it.
38:21This is where I give up.
38:21This is where I check out.
38:22And somehow, there's always then, like, a little sort of a breadcrumb.
38:27Absolutely.
38:27Like, a couple of people turning up to a show where you were told no tickets have been sold.
38:33I had almost made peace and parted ways with this dream.
38:37And I posted a video of me singing Elastic Heart, I think it was, by Sia, with no intention of
38:43it doing anything.
38:45And then I started getting notifications on my phone.
38:47And one of them was Justin Bieber saying, hey, I just sent this to Sia.
38:53It just, yeah, it just went crazy overnight.
38:57With the experience and the hardship that you've been through, you deserve to be here.
39:01Yeah.
39:01You've never gave up when you could have.
39:03Yeah.
39:04It's amazing.
39:07I find it to be a choice.
39:11If you look for the light, you'll find it.
39:16Just don't often get a chance to reflect on how far we've come.
39:20Yeah, I'm so happy that we got to share it together.
39:23Do you know what I mean?
39:24Yeah.
39:25Yeah, yeah.
39:29Mate, this is sick.
39:30I feel like Indiana Jones.
39:32Yeah.
39:32He'd never wear a blue helmet.
39:33Nah, never.
39:34He'd be, like, drafting down the river.
39:36Oh, here we go.
39:37I believe in Sam.
39:39And I've believed in him since I met him.
39:43He's been so busy for so long.
39:45So I hope that when we head out in the race, he'll realise he's finally made it where he wanted
39:49to be.
39:50And it's time for him to take time for himself and reconnect with what we're all about.
39:56I needed that today.
39:58But we are a long way from anywhere.
40:02Elle, we're in a rush, man.
40:04Let's go.
40:04Come on.
40:04She's on a mission today.
40:06She's on a mission today.
40:07Trying to find the bus terminal as quick as possible.
40:1090 kilometres north-west, Ella and Nana have made it to Amentai.
40:15Once the centre of Kalimantan's Hindu kingdom, now a stepping stone to the checkpoint.
40:22Balikopan, bus?
40:23Yes?
40:246pm.
40:25Oh.
40:27So there's only one bus every day?
40:30Yes.
40:31Wow.
40:32So we've got six hours.
40:34Just over six hours to kill.
40:36It's a bit frustrating.
40:37I've kind of resided to the fact that other teams are probably going to leapfrog us on this
40:41leg.
40:42Six hours to kill.
40:44I'm sorry.
40:48Look how rural we are.
40:50Yeah.
40:50I mean, if we wanted untouched Borneo, this is as good as we could have got.
40:54Just 20 kilometres away.
40:57It's nice not to be in the backseat of a taxi.
41:00After yesterday's unexpected 14-hour journey.
41:03There they are.
41:04Our pows for the day.
41:07Geoff and Matt are venturing into the wetlands, having picked up some aquatic farm work.
41:15Whoa.
41:16Wow.
41:17Isn't that amazing?
41:18Isn't that gorgeous?
41:19Covering nearly 200 square kilometres, these flooded plains are home to Borneo's swamp buffalo.
41:26They're very unfazed.
41:28I know.
41:29Working in cooperatives, the Banjar community have been raising buffaloes for centuries to
41:35plough rice fields inaccessible to most modern machinery.
41:40Definitely not what I expected to find.
41:43I sort of thought we'd be dropped off in the middle of some fields.
41:45I thought I was expecting fields as well.
41:47At night, the animals shelter in stilted wooden stables.
41:51It'd be interesting to know what we're going to possibly be able to do with these things.
41:54Which need a regular hose down.
41:58Oh!
41:59Dad!
41:59Dad!
42:00All in my face!
42:02Sorry, mate.
42:02No, no, no, no.
42:03Not funny.
42:04Sorry, mate.
42:06In there?
42:07Or there?
42:08I get you.
42:11You know, I never thought I would say that I'm enjoying shoveling what we're shoveling.
42:17But it's quite hard work, so immediately it starts to distract you a little bit from the race.
42:22We're going to stink.
42:23But I do worry about Dad doing it for too long.
42:26Whoop.
42:27And really now, at his age, he should be thinking about slowing down.
42:31Nice smell.
42:32Dad.
42:34I think you should think about taking a break.
42:36Well, look at this so far, you could eat your tea off this.
42:38It would be wise to take a little break.
42:40Caring son.
42:41I love it.
42:42I love it.
42:45It's interesting that my family said to me a couple of weeks ago,
42:48Dad, we'd like you to stop working now.
42:52And one part of me would like to stop, but I might hate this.
42:58As a dad, I think I've always made it my absolute priority to provide for them.
43:05That's always been my aim in life.
43:08I've been on TV for 30-odd years now, so Matt's grown up, never known anything different.
43:14Things like European Football Championships, World Cups.
43:17Tends to be Dad's not at home in that town.
43:22Times and moments that I've missed due to football.
43:25I mean, I must have done.
43:26But I'd like to think I'd done okay.
43:30There's baby buffalo.
43:33She's still a bit unsteady on her feet, isn't she?
43:35Yeah, she is a bit, look.
43:37Growing up, we spent a lot more time with Mum.
43:40Coming for you now, Matt.
43:41I would always go to her for certain things that I wouldn't necessarily go to my dad for.
43:47I think animals are the most calming thing, really.
43:50Came and nuzzled you just as you were saying it.
43:52Hi.
43:53There was a time where Dad and I used to not have a great deal to do with each other.
43:57They live and nuzzle together, don't they?
43:59Yeah.
44:00So, now is the perfect opportunity for this experience.
44:03Because it's the first time in a long time that my dad has some time.
44:07He's available.
44:09He's gorgeous, isn't he?
44:10I'll take him home, Matt.
44:12I think it's going to be an experience that will sort of bring us as close together as we will
44:18ever have been.
44:20It's an unbelievably peaceful spot, actually.
44:22It is beautiful, but I stink.
44:24No.
44:31Yeah, I feel a bit ill today.
44:32Yeah, that's not good.
44:34I don't know why.
44:34To the south.
44:35At least, hopefully, tomorrow we'll be at the checkpoint.
44:38Not last.
44:39Princess and Junior have reached Assam Assam and are looking for the fastest way to the checkpoint.
44:45Still 550 kilometres away.
44:48So, yeah, so we need to get to Balikpapan as soon as possible.
44:52With a little help from the locals.
44:55Also, I really need to go to the toilet. Like, I'm...
44:58OK, why don't you go to the toilet and I'll try and sort it.
45:00Yeah?
45:01Yeah?
45:01Can I leave it to you?
45:01I'll try and do it myself.
45:03I really need to go like, this is bad.
45:06OK.
45:06Go to the toilet.
45:07OK.
45:08Where's the toilet?
45:09Yeah.
45:10Oh, my gosh.
45:12How much would it cost for a taxi from here to Balikpapan tonight?
45:16OK, OK.
45:17One million and one hundred thousand rupiah.
45:23Um...
45:23Hmm.
45:25Can you find out how much one million rupiah is in English pounds?
45:3245 pounds.
45:34That's not bad.
45:35We might do that.
45:37Would you be able to book it off your phone?
45:39Yes.
45:42Sorry.
45:43That is the maddest experience I've ever had.
45:45It's never come out that fluid in my life.
45:48Barefoot, full on squat, baby wipes.
45:53Let me just update you.
45:54She said she can book us a taxi to Balikpapan from here.
45:58It is 500 rupiah each.
46:01Weight is 44 pounds.
46:03Really?
46:03Yes.
46:03That is actually great.
46:05We're going to get to the checkpoint tonight.
46:07Let's flip into it.
46:08Well done.
46:09Thanks.
46:10See?
46:11You can do it.
46:12Oh, sorry.
46:13Sorry.
46:17I think we needed to sort of spend a little bit more money on this
46:20and be less conscious about the budget.
46:22Already in a taxi heading towards the checkpoint.
46:24There was literally no other way we were getting out of there.
46:27Sam and Kaz.
46:28We just have to wait and see if it's been worth it.
46:31Yep.
46:32I honestly can't call it this time.
46:35There's definitely a way to do it slightly quicker than us.
46:38Yeah.
46:39I have no idea.
46:4055 kilometres to the north, Ella and Nana also striking out towards Balikpapan.
46:46I can't call it.
46:48You honestly never know with this race.
46:52Maybe I have left one bus.
46:54Definitely at least one more.
46:55Close behind, Jeff and Matt.
47:00Ah, OK.
47:02That's the best.
47:03That's fantastic.
47:04You're so lucky, my brother.
47:06OK.
47:06Thank you so much.
47:08Ah!
47:09Unbelievable.
47:10We could not have done any more.
47:13Bring on the checkpoint.
47:17The taxi's meant to be here at 9 o'clock.
47:21And it's now past 10 o'clock.
47:26Ooh, something's coming.
47:28Wait, is this our taxi?
47:29Yeah.
47:30Oh, there's so many people, innit?
47:31Oh, wow.
47:33Every seat is full.
47:35Oh.
47:36You really can't make this up.
47:37Is this actually happening?
47:39Have we just waited three hours for a taxi to show up with every single seat filled?
47:46Oh, you got yours.
47:48Gonna wait again.
47:49For how long?
47:50What's he saying?
47:52OK.
47:53We'll wait ten minutes.
47:54What?
48:10Being on a ferry this morning was the last thing I expected.
48:13You just never know what's going to happen.
48:17For the final push to the checkpoint, the fastest route, a quick hop across Balikpapan Bay by ferry.
48:27We stopped?
48:29Why?
48:31This feels correct.
48:32The boat stopped in the middle of the sea.
48:34On an early morning departure, Sam and Kaz.
48:38Some mistake will be no thrust.
48:40This could cost us.
48:47I'm hoping all of the others are still miles away, but the truth is, I've got no idea.
48:55There's another ferry coming this way.
48:57And then the one, oh, my God, there's loads of them.
49:00That doesn't appear to be moving at all.
49:01It's not, is it?
49:03Is that Geoff and Matt?
49:05Yeah.
49:06North way.
49:07It is.
49:08I'm sure it is.
49:09It is.
49:10Oh, they're on.
49:11There they are.
49:14I'm hoping that their ferry's broken down.
49:17I mean, it's not moving, so there's every possibility.
49:21I don't want to say it would be funny, but it would be.
49:24I just can't, I can't believe what's happening.
49:27Yeah, it's infuriated.
49:28You've got a small head start by the looks of it.
49:35You can only imagine what they were feeling, sitting there.
49:39If they have seen us go sailing by, then it must have been gutting.
49:45Of course, if it comes down to a foot race, we were in trouble.
49:48Just hope that the body holds up.
49:51Yeah.
49:55All right, come on, mate.
49:57Yeah.
49:58Racing driver.
49:59You.
50:07Whoa.
50:08This is a big and busy place, isn't it?
50:12Home to over 650,000 people, the bustling metropolis of Balikpapan.
50:20Known as Oil City, its booming energy industry attracts workers from across the globe.
50:27Right.
50:28Okay, Matt.
50:28Entering the fray, Geoff and Matt on the hunt for the second checkpoint.
50:36Got a message?
50:37Okay.
50:38Travel by Ankhots to Masjid Beytul Aman.
50:43Well, what is Ankhots?
50:45Travel by Ankhots.
50:46Ankhots.
50:47Ankhots.
50:47Ankhots.
50:48There, there, there.
50:48Ankhots.
50:49Oh, Ankhots.
50:50Hello.
50:50Ankhots.
50:51Yeah.
50:52We want to go to Masjid Beytul Aman.
50:55Okay.
50:55You can do that.
50:56Good.
50:56Yeah.
50:56Great.
50:57Let's go.
50:57Well done, Matt.
50:59Trying to keep an eye out for any other Ankhots.
51:02Just in case they've come a back ruse.
51:04With any luck that's still on that boat.
51:06Yeah.
51:10We've stopped.
51:11This is the theme of the day, Sam.
51:13Getting something and then it's stopping forever.
51:16Thank God.
51:18This is mental.
51:20I still absolutely do not trust that we're going the right way.
51:23Oh, yeah, yeah.
51:26Okay.
51:27There it is.
51:29Another message.
51:30Head away from the main road.
51:32Follow the streets, pass through an archway and find Guang de Mayo.
51:37Jog a bit.
51:38Yeah.
51:39Yeah.
51:40Yeah.
51:41Here we are.
51:42This is the place.
51:43El Aman.
51:46Guang de Mayo.
51:47That's a temple.
51:48We've got a jogster.
51:51Dad, archway here.
51:53Yeah.
51:53First archway found, so hopefully.
51:57There's an archway.
51:58Kaz, Kaz, Kaz, Kaz, Kaz.
51:59You got it?
52:00Can you see it?
52:01Yeah.
52:02Um, we look for a temple.
52:04Guang de Mayo.
52:05Temple.
52:06Great, great.
52:07Awesome.
52:07Thank you, man.
52:08Thanks, buddy.
52:09See what's around the corner.
52:12Doesn't look optimistic to be down here.
52:14No.
52:15Nobody to ask.
52:15No.
52:16Just what we need a hill.
52:19Temple.
52:20Thanks.
52:23Max, it's down here.
52:25Got it.
52:26Straight down this road and up.
52:29Keep an eye on that GPS, Kaz.
52:31Yep.
52:32It'll be hot on the hills of Geoff and Matt.
52:34Oh, there you go.
52:35Here it is.
52:35Guang de Mayo.
52:37This is it.
52:38Yeah, this is it.
52:39Wow.
52:40That's quite amazing, isn't it?
52:41These are amazing.
52:44Continue down and locate Checkpoint Hotel, the Golden Tulip.
52:50And this.
52:51Is there a way round there?
52:52Nah, there's no way here, mate.
52:54It must be downstairs.
52:55The Golden Tulip.
52:56Down there.
52:57Down there.
52:57Down there.
52:57Oh, thank you.
52:58Thank you so much.
53:01Did it say left or right?
53:02Doesn't say it.
53:03It just says find a hotel.
53:04That looks like a hotel to me, mate.
53:06Yeah.
53:07I can't go any faster, Matt.
53:10Oh, see.
53:10That's right here.
53:11Go and shoot it there.
53:12Go and stretch.
53:13My knee won't work again for a week.
53:15It's right.
53:17Lobby of hotel.
53:19Over here, son.
53:22Well done.
53:23There it is.
53:24There's the book.
53:25Who made it?
53:27Welcome to Golden Tulip Balikpapan.
53:30You sign in.
53:32Congratulations.
53:33You have successfully reached your second checkpoint.
53:38Please sign in.
53:40Overleaf.
53:41Ready?
53:41Yeah.
53:43Oh!
53:46Brilliant.
53:47I love them.
53:490451.
53:50We're about four hours behind.
53:51That is fantastic.
53:53Man.
53:54Told you we were going to be close.
54:03It's right.
54:05Come on, Tulip.
54:06Let's see where we're at.
54:09No way!
54:12Oh, my God.
54:13I fully thought Sam's name was going to be there.
54:16Oh, my gosh.
54:18The amazing result.
54:19I genuinely had convinced myself that we were second or third.
54:23So it was a really lovely surprise.
54:25Having seen the orangutans with my best friend, that was the big goal of ours.
54:31So cool!
54:32Good to know that we can enjoy ourselves, but still come first.
54:37Room key.
54:38Number one.
54:38Back-to-back wins.
54:42Well done.
54:44Bloody well done.
54:45It's the time that we've gained on them.
54:48Absolutely ecstatic being second.
54:50Sam and Kaz breathing down our necks, but we're not that far from first.
54:54And to have closed that gap, especially with sort of some of the challenges we faced.
54:57It was just...
54:58Yeah.
54:59It was dream.
54:59It's about four hours.
55:01It's nothing.
55:04Come on, you know.
55:07I've been brilliant.
55:08You were brilliant, mate.
55:09And I ran.
55:10Yeah.
55:13You ready?
55:13Yeah.
55:15Ah.
55:16But look at the times.
55:17We've smashed that.
55:18I think we've just closed the field up.
55:19We've done what...
55:20We've done more than what we expected.
55:21Totally.
55:22Third place.
55:22Third place.
55:23Sounds worse than it is.
55:25Yeah.
55:25We're, like, neck and neck with Geoff and Matt, and we know that we had a good head of steam
55:30on us because that only happened because of the very...
55:34Thank you so much.
55:35Have a lovely day, mate.
55:36Bye-bye.
55:37I'm sure heading our way soon is just this golden ray of lucky light.
55:41Yeah.
55:41That will hopefully show up in legs three.
55:49Oh, my gosh.
55:50Go, go, go.
55:52This way.
55:55Oh, my gosh.
56:02Oh, my gosh.
56:03Please.
56:04Please don't be lost.
56:09What?
56:10How?
56:12Good delay.
56:15Came last.
56:17Me, personally, I'm feeling very, very annoyed.
56:20A good note, we have caught up a massive amount.
56:24We've actually closed in Pinella and Anna, like, 12 hours.
56:28Yeah.
56:28So we could then, potentially, for next leg, close that even more.
56:33I'm so happy for Geoff and Matt that they've come second, because I know that's going to mean so much
56:38to them.
56:39Part of me is, like, if we didn't help them, would they be second?
56:44But we don't regret helping them at all.
56:46They're good people.
56:47Which is great.
56:48That's what we love.
56:49Let's go.
56:50I don't think any of the other teams see us as a threat.
56:53Yes.
56:54Being last is not good enough for us.
57:02Oh, my gosh.
57:02We need to get this boat.
57:04We need to get this boat.
57:05Never even heard of Sulawesi.
57:07No idea what to expect.
57:09What did the guys say?
57:10There were snakes, but they won't kill us.
57:11I don't think I've been anywhere as remote as this in my life.
57:14What the hell was that?
57:15Bats!
57:16Let's just YOLO it.
57:17Create a new position for ourselves, rather than last.
57:21We brought it down then.
57:22Yeah.
57:22Keep digging deep.
57:26Come here.
57:27I would go home now, but I can't.
57:33The mind games begin trust and treachery in the Traitor's Island.
