00:00Meet the Refugee Olympic Team featuring in the ongoing Youth Olympics in Senegal.
00:06The team is made up of different nationalities seeking refuge in different locations with the hope that the situation changes.
00:13They all hope to at least win a medal each in the Games to boost their morale and achievement in
00:18life.
00:19Right now I feel immense joy because I have come to represent my country.
00:25I am truly very happy. My primary goal is to win medals.
00:30The message I want to share is that refugee can also succeed and win.
00:36We have talent and we can demonstrate it. Both boys and girls among us are talented.
00:43We are all capable of achieving great things.
00:49Ano Yafunga was part of the first Refugee Olympic Team to compete in the Youth Olympics,
00:55this year held in Dakar, Senegal and the nearby cities of Diamniadio and Sali.
01:03Back there in Nairobi where I stay, there are many bad groups, bad gangs.
01:10Judo keeps me away from those bad situations, bad people there.
01:15I overcome my challenge by playing judo, respecting responsibility,
01:20always be there for training. I don't focus on those bad things.
01:26The team created by the International Olympic Committee and managed by the Olympic Refuge Foundation
01:31brings together athletes based in refugee camps in Kenya and Uganda competing in judo, taekwondo and track and field.
01:39What I will tell young refugee athletes is to keep pushing forward.
01:43Don't give up. As we say in English, don't give up.
01:46Always keep moving ahead. One day success will come for them too.
01:50Being a refugee doesn't mean it's the end of things.
01:53Being a refugee also allows you to dream of great things,
01:56just as Ano did by reaching the Olympic Games.
02:01The first Refugee Olympic Team competed at the 2016 Games in Rio,
02:07but this is the first time a refugee team has competed at the Youth Olympics.
02:12The first Refugee Olympic Team is a refugee in the U.S.
