Filmed from above, this chase is already at full speed from the very first second: a little arctic fox racing across the open snow with two big gray wolves right behind it, every head turned toward the fox.
The fox knows this ground. It sails clean over a ridge of broken ice, bounds across the ice blocks and over the snow drifts without losing a step — and the wolves have to clear every one of those jumps a moment later, on the very same path.
And at the end of the run waits the smallest of doors: the tiny entrance of the fox's snow burrow. The fox slips headfirst inside and vanishes in a blink — a hole so small that when the wolves slide to a stop, the biggest of them can only just push its nose inside. The rest of it was never going to fit.
Out here on the tundra, being small and quick — and knowing the way home — is everything.
