00:00There are at least 10 technology companies in Africa that are worth over a billion dollars.
00:06We call these unicorn startups.
00:08Six of them are based in Nigeria.
00:11Today, OPE earns 90% of its revenue operating in Nigeria.
00:17But it adds a corporate structure based in Cayman Islands with headquarters in Singapore.
00:24But OPE is not the only global company operating in Nigeria that has structure outside the country.
00:31Companies like Paystack, Flutterwave, Move, Andela.
00:35All of these entities that call Nigeria their operating center also have entities outside the country because it helps them
00:44to attract global investment.
00:46So while Nigeria is a home to build billion dollar companies, there is also a gap that these companies do
00:54not incorporate here.
00:56And what does it mean?
00:57It means that the opportunity for average Nigeria to participate in the economic wealth created by this entity are currently
01:05not being taken advantage of.
01:07We have explored in details in a full article on the Guardian how Nigeria can give more of its people
01:14a meaningful opportunity to participate in the success of its technology businesses.
