00:00For people visiting Liverpool City Centre, the cost of parking is part of the overall cost of a day or
00:07evening out in town.
00:08But those charges have risen again, prompting questions about affordability, access and the impact on local businesses that rely on
00:17visitors.
00:18I think it's terrible. I think the council should have a look at it again and lower the prices for
00:25people that come into town.
00:27But I can't see them doing it, but I'm so glad that I'd like to see it as you're done.
00:31I'm not a fan. You need to park to get places. Adds an extra cost, doesn't it?
00:37And then you may as well not drive at that point. Especially for students.
00:40May as well walk. Parking up here. Yeah, it's not ideal. Adds an extra cost. You don't need the extra
00:48costs.
00:49Well, I think they won't come into the city. If the parking rates have gone up, which is quite expensive
00:55in some car parks,
00:56in town, and I mean really expensive, going to double figures half the time.
01:02The new tariffs took effect on the 1st of November and applied to council-owned car parks and parking spaces
01:08across the city centre.
01:09In the inner zone, half an hour now costs £2.40, while an hour costs £4.60 and a two
01:15-hour stay is £6.80.
01:17The council says the average increase across its managed spaces is 4%.
01:22Council leader Liam Robinson says the charges will help pay for enforcement, including action against drivers blocking taxi ranks.
01:30But hospitality businesses have warned higher costs could deter customers.
01:35The council estimates the changes could generate an extra £1.4 million,
01:40although parking income is still forecast to fall short of its budget target.
01:45That's a load of rubbish. I don't believe anything the council say.
01:49Well, you know, it obviously will discourage people from parking in the city centre.
01:53You know, it's a trend in a lot of places that commerce is going to the edges of towns and
01:58cities into the various retail parks
02:00or they don't have to charge, pay parking charges, you know.
02:03There should be more places where you can actually park for free or cheaper, as in, like, not have to
02:09pay an arm and a leg.
02:12I think if they're going to put them up any further, people aren't going to use a bus or do
02:17what they think they might do.
02:19You get the odd person who will, but otherwise, no, I think people would go elsewhere.
02:24Well, you see, I suppose there's two ways of looking at these things.
02:26And yeah, I know they do have to get their money from somewhere. I get that.
02:30But then at the same time, you are conscious of what the impact is on shops.
02:35Like you see that place there now, Chalet, for example, and places like that.
02:39So that's where you would be concerned at the same time with the shopkeepers and their staff, you know.
02:44I'm not too sure about that either because the roads are still horrendous.
02:47The council says parking income must support parking and enforcement services.
02:52The debate now is whether those changes improve access without discouraging people from visiting the city centre.
02:59You're really like to see the following number of people here.
02:59What a good day Schneider
02:59You're the most이다.
03:00You're amazing, you're also delighted about this.
