00:00In Paraguay, members of unions and social and student organizations are protesting outside the National Congress headquarters in Asunción amid
00:08the impeachment proceedings against President Santiago Peña.
00:11The victims of the Bueno Bank fraud are demanding that Congress proceed with the impeachment trial against resigning Peña in
00:19connection with the scandal that has locked nearly 3 million depositors, almost half of Paraguay's population, out of their savings.
00:27In this context, demonstrators have vowed to remain in the streets and squares until there is justice for those affected
00:34by the corruption scheme.
00:36Let's recall that Paraguayan President Santiago Peña tendered his resignation on Thursday, but minutes later the Chamber of Deputies unanimously
00:45voted to impeach him in an attempt to prevent him from taking up a lifetime Senate seat with immunity from
00:52prosecution once he leaves office.
01:03We are calling on the general public and in particular all those affected by this widespread scam.
01:11More than 3 million Paraguayans have been affected by this scam perpetrated by a public entity, which is why we
01:18are calling on all citizens to join us here in Congress to demand that those responsible face the consequences for
01:24defrauding citizens, especially workers.
01:30And this is a reality that has been hitting us hard, a reality where you see desperate families selling their
01:38belongings, selling things from their home, selling their chickens, selling everything they have just to be able to afford even
01:44motherly decent health care.
01:46So this is a mockery, the metal with people's money, with people's health, and with their very survival, because there
01:53are people who don't even have enough to eat.
01:55So I believe we need to be mindful enough to be here today and fight for the rights of those
01:59who have been wronged, because all of us here have been affected in some way by this situation.
02:08Investigators in Paraguay warned the public about possible scams involving the return of savings following the closure of U.N
02:15.O. banks.
02:15The Cybercrime Investigation Department highlighted that several scam attempts have been uncovered involving text messages and fake links that attempt
02:24to impersonate the central bank in order to steal banking information.
02:28They also emphasize that the only official link maintained by the National Bank is for informational purposes only, noting that
02:36users should not enter passwords or sensitive information.
02:39A study has urged the affected public to use only official channels to avoid falling victims to scams.
