00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're taking a look at the 10 greatest cartoons based on video games.
00:11Number 10, Captain Laserhawk, a Blood Dragon Remix.
00:14Rather than focus on one particular IP, Captain Laserhawk is one giant crossover show that mashes together a wide array
00:21of Ubisoft franchises.
00:23Okay, let's get on with the mission.
00:30You've got the daughter of Sam Fisher from Splinter Cell, a French frog who is a member of the Brotherhood
00:35from Assassin's Creed,
00:36and even Rayman has a prominent role as a newscaster with some serious mental issues.
00:41It's such a bizarre blend of different characters, yet it works so well between the humor and narrative that we
00:47honestly can't help jumping into the next episode instantly.
00:50We only wish that the show had gotten one more season just to see one last trick from the cast
00:55and crew.
01:06Number 9, Revisioned, Tomb Raider.
01:09Some will probably say the Netflix series of Tomb Raider was their favorite adaptation of Lara Croft, but we keep
01:15coming back to Revisioned.
01:30Instead of maintaining a linear plot throughout the show, Revision told a litany of stories about Lara's adventures,
01:36and every plot came with its own distinct art style and animation.
01:39It was almost like seeing Lara under the lens of various eras of animation history.
01:43Unfortunately, because the show aired on an obscure TV network like GameTap,
01:48it never garnered a big enough audience and was cancelled after one season.
02:01You can currently watch the entire show on YouTube via the Tomb Raider YouTube channel free of charge.
02:12Number 8, Among Us.
02:13A cartoon based on Among Us doesn't sound like a promising adaptation unless you plan to do it in a
02:19skit format similar to Robot Chicken.
02:21Whoa!
02:23Oh my god!
02:23Alert!
02:24Hold reach!
02:25Coms compromised!
02:26We've struck an asteroid!
02:28Critical systems compromised!
02:29To our surprise, the Paramount animated series boasts some of the funniest writing
02:34as our colorful space crew work out their differences to find a murderous imposter.
02:38And it manages to be entertaining without constantly referencing the game or video games in general.
02:44Oh damn it!
02:46I don't see them, I don't see them, I don't see them, I don't see them, I don't see them,
02:49I don't see them!
02:49Oh!
02:51Isn't it wild I'm captain now?
02:52Really, this show could have gone south in so many ways, and we're really glad it turned out as great
02:58as it did.
03:03Number 7, The Cuphead Show.
03:05In most cases, not following along with the source material is enough to make most fans enraged.
03:10But, in the case of The Cuphead Show, we were given something magical.
03:14Right?
03:14That's right, now first we...
03:17This Netflix animated series spent all of 2022 telling creative stories filled with clever writing and humor in every single
03:24episode.
03:25Fire!
03:26You say it's my fault!
03:28So what if I end?
03:32It's written in such a way that you would almost think the cartoon came before the video game.
03:37Despite us wanting a little bit more of Cuphead and Mugman's adventures,
03:40we're honestly glad the series has ended as those three seasons were all perfect.
03:51Number 6, Earthworm Jim.
03:53You could probably make a case that Earthworm Jim was the first definitively excellent cartoon series based on a video
03:59game.
04:00Like, genuinely.
04:01Not just in Saturday morning cartoon fare.
04:03And bright intruders, destroy the intruders.
04:07Yeah, go get him!
04:09Hey, oh, you mean us.
04:13With Dan Castellanata voicing our buff and wriggly hero, Earthworm Jim injected a ton of wit into its sense of
04:20humor while incorporating the bizarre visuals of the games.
04:23Okay, muchacho, eat dirt!
04:33The show only lasted 23 episodes, spanning two seasons.
04:36And since then, there has been a small yet dedicated fanbase brewing as more clips of the show's best moments
04:42circulate online.
04:44What is it?
04:45I don't know.
04:46I found it in my armpit.
04:47Number 5, Devil May Cry.
04:48We can understand why some folks may not have been too keen on Netflix's adaptation of this legendary Capcom franchise.
05:03Say what you will about some of the hokey dialogue, but that's part of the show's charm, as well as
05:08the games.
05:08The reason you watch it is mostly for the high-octane and visceral action, as Dante and company tear into
05:14every one of their foes.
05:28On top of that, the soundtrack amplifies the butt-kicking every time it ramps up for fight scenes.
05:33So, if you were expecting something super gritty and serious, well, you might be in the wrong fanbase, bud.
05:39You don't even know what this really is, do you?
05:43You bet it's mine!
05:45All yours, Hellblood.
05:48Number 4, Sonic Boom.
05:50While most of us will fondly remember the anime Sonic X, younger viewers were given an excellent show for themselves.
05:56Heesh.
05:57Goat cheese with red radicchio spread?
06:00And the hoity-toity stiffs love these tiny nibbles.
06:03Gah!
06:04Uh-oh.
06:05Gotta go.
06:06Even though the games weren't great, the TV series based on Sonic Boom was actually very well-written, with witty
06:12humor and dialogue.
06:13There was even some surprisingly smart and genuine commentary of social and political topics that still feel relevant today.
06:26Eat garbage!
06:30Can you believe the show is over a decade old?
06:32Yeah, well, that said, don't let the games speak for Sonic Boom.
06:35Just an episode or two will show you how incredible the show was.
06:41Pillow Fight!
06:45Number 3, Castlevania.
06:47Don't worry, it's our last Netflix series here, but we just cannot ignore the magnificent splendor of the first Castlevania
06:53series.
07:02While it doesn't follow the plots of any particular games, it does borrow a handful of elements from games, such
07:09as, most obviously, Castlevania 3 and Symphony of the Night.
07:12It also features some incredible fight scenes, tense conspiracy, and a little bit of comedy to help break up the
07:18tension when appropriate.
07:19Are you burning something out there?
07:27We only wish that Castlevania Nocturne, the follow-up series, was able to match the same level of quality writing.
07:42Number 2, Arkane.
07:43With its massive roster of characters and super deep lore, we're surprised it took almost a whole decade for League
07:50of Legends to get its own animated TV series.
08:04Arkane focuses on Violet and Jinx, two sisters who get caught in a war between their respective nations.
08:10Having lasted only two seasons, critics and fans have unanimously called Arkane some of the most brilliant storytelling in the
08:16world of television and entertainment as a whole.
08:25Not only that, but its success has led to plans for even more shows based on other League of Legends
08:30characters.

09:06Number 1, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show.
09:08I mean, you just can't ever talk about great cartoons based on video games without talking about this legendary show.
09:15Hey, it's you guys.
09:18Us?
09:20We won 10,000 gold pieces.
09:23From the catchy theme song to the classic Saturday morning cartoon vibes, The Super Mario Bros. Super Show is always
09:29a great time.
09:30You get to see some live-action shenanigans in addition to animated adventures starring Mario and Friends, depicting the Mushroom
09:36Kingdom in a vibrant and expressive way never seen before.
09:40Like my grandfather, Poopal the Koopa always said, cheat, beat, and be merry.
09:45And no matter how much older the show gets, it remains just as super as it was decades ago.
09:50What am I going to tell mama?
09:52Look at you!
09:54We're crying alone!
09:55So, have you binged any of these shows yourself?
