00:00Publio 14th is also said to visit one of Montevideo's most neglected neighborhoods
00:04where faith and solidarity are bringing hope to its residents.
00:08Our correspondent Mateo Grille has more details.
00:16These streets are the heart of the Borro neighborhood, one of the most neglected in Montevideo.
00:22It is part of the Casaval district, an area marked by deprivation and stigma,
00:27but also by the resilience of its people.
00:29This is as far as Pope Leon Caivere will go on his visit to Uruguay.
00:34Father Pablo Coimbra has been working for the past six years at this parish, Our Lady of Guadalupe.
00:40He understands better than most the reasons why the Pope chose this neighborhood to bring his message.
00:51In fact, one of the reasons this place was chosen for the Pope's visit
00:56is because there is a significant number of projects being carried out by the Catholic Church,
01:00and most of them are dedicated to the education and care of children, teenagers and young adults.
01:06But not only that, we also provide services, so to speak, to help people gain access to decent housing.
01:12We also focus on nutrition and sports.
01:20who are here, on the same block as the parish, are also carrying out work with the elderly and the
01:25abandoned,
01:26and they care for them until the moment of their death.
01:37There are five parishes and twelve chapels in this area.
01:41The church also supports various social projects.
01:44It provides support to children and youth and teaches trade skills to create new opportunity.
01:49In the area of the Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish, more than 130 homes, such as these,
01:56have already been built or repaired, and the Pope will bless them when he tours the neighborhood.
02:01For Fr. Coimbra, it will be a historic event.
02:04We are happy, we want to welcome him with joy, and be prepared to welcome the Pope.
02:12And in the parish community, to be honest, we have been preparing in every way for a long time.
02:18Logistical preparations, spiritual preparations, and preparations to be good hosts.
02:23Because this event is the most important and significant historical occasion in all of Casaval,
02:28and, without a doubt, in our community.
02:31What more could we ask for from the perspective of faith?
02:34What else can we ask from the point of view of faith, right?
02:39In Casaval, tens of thousands of people live in Casaval, most of whom are socially and economically vulnerable.
02:47To address some of the problems in the area the Pope will visit,
02:51residents have been devoting their time and efforts for weeks.
02:55That's how they set up spaces like this one,
02:57where hundreds of children, youth, and families receive support.
03:01They also built a children's football field so that boys and girls can grow up playing sports.
03:07Patricia Tecora has lived in Casaval for 51 years and volunteers at the parish snack bar.
03:13For her, the Pope's visit has a very special meaning.
03:23For us, you can imagine, it was a real surprise that he came here to borrow.
03:27We're still on the side of Unidad Casaval.
03:30But for us, what can I say?
03:31It's really important that he came.
03:42It's a source of pride, a source of pride to be able to benefit from this and all that.
03:47And we're also so grateful to him, to Father Pablo.
03:50It's really a matter of gratitude for what he does for the neighborhood,
03:53because we're just one of the many people he helps every day.
04:03This neighborhood will be the focus of attention for the entire country and much of the Catholic world.
04:10On that day, Pope Leo Caerzier will walk through its streets and speak with its residents.
04:16Casaval faces all kinds of challenges on a daily basis.
04:19But that Saturday, it will show its best side, thanks to the efforts of its people.
04:24A community that awaits the Pope with open arms and a history of resilience.
