Jaxon Smith-Njigba’s dominant start has him chasing NFL history

Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Jaxon Smith-Njigba is enjoying one of the most productive starts to an NFL season in the Super Bowl era.Through the first eight games of the 2026 season, the 24-year-old has accumulated 985 receiving yards on 64 receptions, with nine touchdowns. He leads the NFL in receiving yards, holding a 259-yard advantage over the next closest player. His consistency has been especially remarkable. Smith-Njigba has surpassed 100 receiving yards in seven of Seattle's eight games, falling short only against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 4, when he finished with 76 yards.According to NFL Research, he joins Michael Irvin (1995), Marvin Harrison (2000) and Adam Thielen (2018) as the only receivers in the Super Bowl era to reach 100 yards in at least seven of their team's first eight games. His 985 yards are also the second-highest total through eight games in the Super Bowl era, trailing only Tyreek Hill's 1,014 yards in 2023.In Seattle's November 2 loss to the Chicago Bears, Smith-Njigba recorded six catches, 118 yards and a touchdown despite the Seahawks falling 34-17.That performance also moved him past Joey Galloway into eighth place on the Seahawks' all-time receiving yards list, with 4,458 career yards.Looking ahead to Seattle's November 8 game against the Arizona Cardinals, Smith-Njigba has an opportunity to become just the third player in NFL history to record at least 100 receiving yards in eight of his team's first nine games of a season.
