00:01At least six people were killed and 15 were injured after a gunman opened fire on the main
00:07square of the Polish city of Krakow. Police said the suspect was shot by officers and transported
00:14to the hospital as emergency services were operating at the scene. They added that the
00:19gunman aimed at random people as he drove into the square, a major tourist destination in the
00:24center of the city. The perpetrator was wearing military-style fatigues and a bulletproof vest
00:30and used a military-type long gun in the attack. He kept firing at officers even after being shot
00:37himself, according to police, who also found many other weapons as well as ammunition in his car.
00:43Images from the scene showed police officers and ambulances covering the area and a Polish
00:49medical air rescue helicopter also landed in the square. Mass shootings are rare in Poland,
00:55but the country was on high alert following a series of stabbings in October.
01:00The mayor of Krakow announced a period of mourning in response to the attack,
01:04which will last until Wednesday, November 11th.
01:11Russian strikes on the Kiev region overnight left six people injured and damaged a bridge
01:17and energy facilities, according to authorities. Kiev's mayor said the attacks affected the
01:23operation of heating and water supply systems in the city, adding that Kiev's northern bridge
01:28was closed to traffic in both directions as specialists assessed damage to the structure.
01:33President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia launched 36 ballistic missiles and 172 drones,
01:40causing power cuts in five regions, adding that Russia had used North Korean missiles to target
01:45energy facilities. Meanwhile, a recovery operation continued into its sixth day in the southern
01:52village of Komeshuvaka, devastated on Monday when multiple Russian guided bombs struck a former
01:57school as residents waited for humanitarian aid. Emergency services said they had recovered nine more
02:04bodies, bringing the death toll to 55. Negotiators from Russia, Ukraine and the U.S. are set to meet on
02:11Tuesday in Abu Dhabi for talks aimed at ending the war, the fourth round of negotiations brokered by
02:16the Trump administration.
02:20Everything has to change, said Jean-Luc Mélenchon, and amongst the many issues developed here today,
02:26well, the program pledges to raise the monthly minimum wage to 1,700 euros, lower the retirement age,
02:34it wants to overhaul education, health systems, and it wants a sweeping ecological transformation.
02:43The economic front LFI aims to raise more than 100 billion euros in additional revenue in its first year of
02:51office, mainly through higher taxes for the richest parts of French society, and it wants to increase
02:59public spending by nearly 82 billion.
03:02When you invest in money in public services, it's an investment for the population, and it's not a
03:08expense. That's already the first point. And then you have a lot of economists, including
03:13right economists, who agree with our program and have validated the program.
03:19Melenchon's proposals will face major challenges, amongst which how to reconcile these measures
03:27with European budget rules, and also how to secure enough parliamentary support to implement
03:35these measures if Jean-Luc Mélenchon is elected next year. I'm Valerie Gorien, Le Bourget, for Euronews.
03:44French unions and student groups have taken to the streets again for another Saturday of protest
03:50over the rising cost of living. The demonstrations follow weeks of youth-led unrest and nationwide
03:57strikes which brought hundreds of thousands of workers out. In Paris, the Yellow Vest Movement
04:04planned its own rally despite a ban by the authorities. About 100 people gathered at Place de la Concorde
04:11at most without the movement's trademark high visibility vest, but they were quickly surrounded
04:17by riot police. According to reports, two figures from the movement were arrested in front of the
04:23National Assembly. By Saturday afternoon, the Interior Minister's Office reported 7,000 people in 68
04:30protests across the country, excluding Paris, a sharp decline compared with 15,000 in 65 protests last Saturday.
