Thailand's worst floods in half a century are now threatening to cause even more mayhem as they edge ever closer to the Thai capital.
The torrents have reached Pathum Thani, just 45 kilometres north of Bangkok, and residents are struggling to contain the floodwater.
(SOUNDBITE) (Thai) RESIDENT NATTAPON DACHASAWAS:
"I think the government should work faster and make a quick decision, because this is the main gateway to Bangkok. They must do it quickly."
Monsoon rain, high tides and water flowing from reservoirs had threatened the capital at the weekend but its defensive system of dikes and canals held.
The governor of Bangkok though said that the floods still posed a threat to the city, particularly in the northern districts.
The floodwaters have already swamped large areas of the north, northeast and centre of the country, killing 315 people since July.
