A doctor who examined Muammar Gaddafi's son says several of his fingers on his right hand show signs of gangrene and will need to be amputated.
Doctor Andrei Murakhovsky saw Saif al-Islam just days after he was captured by fighters in southern Libya.
SOUNDBITE: Doctor Andrei Murakhovsky saying:
"Now this wound is not (in) good condition because this wound needs amputation, you know, because this wound is inflamed, with pus, with rotting tissue."
Saif al-Islam has been nursing injuries to his right hand which he says were sustained during a NATO airstrike weeks ago."
SOUNDBITE: Doctor Andrei Murakhovsky saying:
"And the fingers were cut, half cut and it wasn't cut but sharp, some sharp weapons or some knife or something like this, because it was an old wound and the wound was covered with gangrene tissue and necrotic tissue and his bones were broken. So, I suppose it was wounds after some explosion."
Murakhovsky did not elaborate on any plans to tend to Gaddafi's wounds. Libyan officials have said that the son of the fallen leader is receiving the best possible medical treatment.
