Honduras' embattled media came under attack in the capital Tegucigalpa earlier this week following unfavorable reports of spiraling crime and corruption.
Outspoken radio journalist Luz Marina Paz and a companion were gunned down by two unnamed assailants on Tuesday as they were driving in a pick-up truck.
The 17th journalist to be killed in the tiny Central American nation since the start of 2010, Paz's murder has sent shockwaves through the country's news community.

"This is regrettable. The press are mourning. It was a hard hit, a friend. It is now up to the government to commence an exhaustive investigation, there can't be more deaths with impunity."
Elsewhere in the capital, gunmen opened fire on the daily newspaper La Tribuna.
Although many reporters were trapped inside during the attack, no deaths were reported.
