Around 100 vehicles were involved in a massive highway pileup in Shandong Province, blamed on icy road conditions and heavy snow.
At least one person was killed in the pileup.
Seven people have so far been rescued from the wreckage, with five of them in a serious condition.
By Thursday evening, many motorists remained trapped in their vehicles, wedged in by the impact of the accident.
The pileup created a four kilometre long gridlock on the highway.
The exact number of vehicles involved and people trapped is still unconfirmed.
